  • Patent number: 5176306
Abstract: An instrument for setting wound clamps consists of first and second parts detachably connected by means of a first connection. The first part, which is a disposable part, receives a magazine containing wound clamps, and tools for deforming and implanting the wound clamps. The second part has handles for operating the tools. When the instrument is being operated, forces are generated which may cause the two parts of the instrument to become separated. A second connection between the two parts of the instrument, which connection is only effective during the operation of the instrument is, therefore, provided.

  • Patent number: 5175060
Abstract: A method of making a semiconductor-mounting substrate suitable for high density packaging and the substrate so made. In order to package an electron part having many terminals to be mounted in a high density, the substrate is constructed by using a lead frame comprised of a die pad and leads as a base, forming an adhesive layer or further an insulating layer onto the lead frame, forming a conductor circuit thereon by an additive process and connecting the conductor circuit and the leads to each other through a plated conductor. According to this construction, it is not required to provide a printed circuit board for IC mounting, and IC can directly be mounted onto the lead frame through the plated conductor circuit.

  • Patent number: 5174082
Abstract: This invention relates to shields for protecting a civil engineering work from the destructive effects of earthquakes. A shield according to the invention comprises a plurality of individual islands which are implanted in the ground around the work to be protected and which present mechanical properties different from those of the ground in order to attenuate the seismic surface waves. The islands may be masses of ground compressed between an anchoring means driving in the ground and a sole placed on the ground and connected to the anchoring means by a connecting means under tension. The islands may also be bores or wells filled with granular or pulverulent materials. One application of the invention is the protection of industrial plants or dwellings in order to avoid destruction thereof by earthquakes.

  • Patent number: 5172970
Abstract: An electric locker apparatus with a plurality of locker boxes each having an electric lock device including a latch member normally maintained by a stopper member in a lock position in engagement with the door of the box, and biased toward an unlock position wherein the door can be opened, and an actuator responsive to electric command signal, with an output member movable into an operative position for allowing the latch member to be released from the stopper member and moved into the unlock position. The apparatus further includes an emergency unlocking device for forcibly moving the output member of the actuator into the operative position without requiring input of the command signal. The unlocking device has an emergent key cylinder into which an emergent key can be inserted from outside. The angular motion of the key is converted into a linear motion of the output member of the actuator toward the operative position.

  • Patent number: 5170548
Abstract: A cargo trailer wheel hub puller has a housing provided with a hub which loosely supports a bushing internally provided with threads. A pin passes through a hole in the hub to maintain the bushing in the hub. The bushing is provided with a collar which abuts an internal wall in the housing. A threaded rod passes in thread engagement through the bushing. The end of the rod inside the housing is provided with a contact pad which is adapted to apply a force against a vehicle axle while a torque force is applied to the other end of the rod so that the housing, which is attached to the structure of the trailer wheel hub is forced outwardly over the vehicle axle. The bushing is made from a milder steel than the rod so that, upon wearing out, it can be readily replaced by removing the pin and replacing the bushing.
