  • Patent number: 5125724
Abstract: A hydraulic brake system for a motor vehicle with rear axle drive and front axle/rear axle brake circuit division is equipped with an antilocking brake system, a traction control device and an electronic braking force distribution control device. In order to effect these regulation and control functions on the rear axle of the vehicle, a pressure modulator is provided which has a modulation chamber connected via brake pressure control valves to the rear wheel brakes. This modulation chamber is separated by a modulator piston from a control pressure space to which the outlet pressure of an auxiliary pressure source can be connected under valve control. The modulator piston is displaced by a return spring into the position corresponding to the maximum volume of the modulation chamber, which is the initial position both for normal braking and for traction control operation.

  • Patent number: 5125736
Abstract: An optical range finder includes two detectors for minimizing frequency dispersion affects of the detectors on the system. The optical range finder is calibrated by locking a voltage controlled oscillator onto adjacent null modulation signal frequencies and determining a calibration time for each adjacent frequency. Once the calibration time is determined, the range finder transmits its modulated light signal to a target device and back. The signal reflected back is detected and a measurement time delay is calculated for each of the adjacent modulation signal frequencies. From these measurements, the actual distance between the target and the device can be calculated. The multiple frequency measurements allows for statistical averaging of random errors in the system.

  • Patent number: 5126530
Abstract: A method produces hollow gas exchange valves, in particular with a cooling medium introduced into the hollow valve stem. The hollow of the valve stem is preferably drilled from the valve head side and, after the introduction of the cooling medium, sealed again by surfacing. A thin filling piece is inserted to a defined depth into the drilled hole temporarily holding the weld pool of the surfacing weld. By means of surfacing, it is possible to achieve cost savings over other sealing methods. The surfacing is preferably performed by a welding method in which the workpiece is not part of an electric circuit through which the welding energy flows. Preferable methods include gas welding, electron beam welding or laser welding. With these methods, so-called edge effects can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 5124677
Abstract: A waffeline-configured, surface-mount transmission line module contains a two-dimensional arrangement of periodically distributed conductive surface mesas and channels. Within the channels are segments of dielectrically surrounded conductor. The geometry of the arrangement of segments among the waffleline channels is defined in accordance with the intended signal coupling functionality of the interconnect structure. For example, in the case of a signal splitting application, the conductor segments may be arranged in a tree-like configuration between an input port and multiple output ports. Isolation resistors may be disposed within the channels of the waffleline between adjacent locations of diverging conductor runs among the mesas of the waffleline.

  • Patent number: 5123687
Abstract: A grip control for a handle for unlocking vehicle doors, which handle in a rest position can be retracted flush with an outer contour in a recess of the vehicle door. The handle can be moved in a controlled manner out of the recess into a ready position for opening the vehicle door. Subsequently, the handle can be pivoted out further counter to a spring force with actuation of a lock unlocking device. The grip control includes two pivot levers which are articulated at one side fixed to the door, and on the other side are connected in an articulated manner to the handle. When the pivot levers are pivoted in a controlled manner, they displace the handle into a ready position parallel with the outer contour of the door, and they then permit an additional pivoting-out movement of a side of the grip counter to the force of a spring.

  • Patent number: 5123713
Abstract: An antilocking braking system for a road vehicle performs brake pressure control on the principle of changing the volume of an output pressure chamber of a pressure modulator connected to the wheel brake. The modulator has a control pressure chamber which is separated by a piston from the output pressure chamber into which the output pressure of an auxiliary pressure source is permanently introduced via an inlet control valve. The piston is held in its end position associated with minimal volume of the output pressure chamber. Connected in series with the inlet control valve is a non-return valve which prevents a drop in the pressure in the control pressure chamber in the event of a failure of the auxiliary pressure source. Volume increases in the output pressure chamber required for pressure reduction phases of the antilock braking control are controlled by an outlet control valve.

  • Patent number: 5122475
Abstract: A packaging structure mounts integrated circuit chips in a nested, cavity-up configuration, so as to permit access to the modules for reworkability, but without the use of a separate printed circuit board for support and interconnect among the modules. Each monolithic integrated circuit module comprises a cavity-up leadless chip carrier which is affixed to its own dedicated thermally and electrically conductive mounting base, that effectively plugs into an underlying ground plane, heat sink support. The mounting base may comprise of a thin conductive plate having a cylindrical stem, through which the mounting base is retained within an aperture in the underlying support. The underlying support has a plurality of cylindrical stem engaging apertures distributed in a matrix configuration, so that the insertion of a plurality of chip carrier mounting bases into the apertures of the matrix causes the mounting bases to be aligned edgewise in a tight edge-to-edge array.

  • Patent number: 5121873
Abstract: In a continuous hot rolling system, at least one melt-cut torch is set in a predetermined positional relationship with respect to a trailing end of a preceding hot material and a leading end of an adjacent succeeding hot material. An injected flow of cutting gas from the melt-cut torch is blown against a portion of at least one of the trailing end of the preceding material and the leading end of the succeeding material to melt-cut the portion. The portion extends from an end surface of the one end over a predetermined length. The trailing end of the preceding material and the leading end of the succeeding material are forced against each other and are butt-joined to each other. By doing so, there are produced joining surfaces superior in surface accuracy and high in temperature, to allow joining to be high in accuracy and strength. This joining may be made with respect to slabs before rough rolling, or may be made with respect to bars after rough rolling.
