  • Patent number: 5941672
Abstract: Racks (20) supported on a transfer cart (38) in a decontamination area (18) are loaded with contaminated articles. The carts are wheeled to a washer (14) into which the racks of contaminated articles are placed for washing. After washing, the racks are removed from the washer in a preparation and packing or clean room (12) and unloaded. The empty racks are moved through a rack return (28) back to the decontamination area. The rack return includes a rack supporting surface (32) on which glide strips (42) are mounted for sliding the racks from the clean room to the decontamination area. Guide strips (44) guide the racks to a pair of vertically pivoted polycarbonate doors (34) which the racks push open by engaging bumpers (58). After the rack has passed through the doors, a self-closure mechanism (60) closes the doors automatically. The rack return assembly includes stops (76, 78) on both sides for aligning a rack carrying cart of any of a plurality of sizes accurately with the rack return assembly.

  • Patent number: 5942407
Abstract: A light generating dry disposable device for determining the presence of analytes in a test sample is disclosed. The device comprises a first zone containing conjugated ligand which is capable of reacting with analytes in the test sample. The ligand is conjugated with a photoprotein or related enzyme. The device further comprises a second trapping zone comprising immobilized analyte. The device also includes a third zone containing a reporter system that activates light generation by the conjugate. The conjugates are maintained in the first zone such that they are removable from the first zone when reacted with the soluble analytes from the test sample passing through the first zone, but not removed from the second trapping zone in the absence of such analytes. The third zone contains material capable of reacting with the photoprotein- or enzyme-linked ligand to produce a light-emitting reaction which indicates the presence of the analyte being tested. The present invention provides dry flow through zones.

  • Patent number: 5942193
Abstract: A device for evaluating air removal is subjected to a sterilization process whose effectiveness is dependent on a sufficiently high vacuum being achieved. A closure or lid (20, 70) seals an opening into an interior chamber (12) of a container (10). The closure and container are mechanically interconnected, e.g., fricitonally, such that a preselected pressure differential across the closure is needed to release the closure. The friction or other mechanical interconnection level and a pressure in the interior chamber are selected such that when the exterior of the container is subject to a preselected vacuum, the closure releases. Ease or reliability of reading the indication is improved with a spring (50) for expelling the closure or a frangible member (56, 72) which is severed or irreversibly deformed as the closure releases.

  • Patent number: 5939840
Abstract: A liquid crystal back light illuminating device includes a driving circuit which receives a first value voltage at light-on starting. The device drives a voltage stepping up circuit and lights on a cold cathode tube with a stepped-up high voltage. Thereafter, it receives a second value voltage, drives the voltage stepping up circuit and continues the lighting-on of the cold cathode tube with a lower stepped-up voltage than the former stepped-up high voltage. A slowly varying voltage which is obtained by charging a capacitor with a small current is applied to the driving circuit via an amplifier and a switch circuit. When the varying output voltage comes close to the second value voltage beyond a predetermined value, the switch circuit switches to the second value voltage. Thereby, flickering of the cold cathode tube at the time of switching the light-on condition is prevented.

  • Patent number: 5938741
Abstract: When a transmission request reception process controller accepts a request to transmit information, the information is read from a memory in order of addresses generated by an address generator. A transmission information generator adds addresses of the information to the read information, for transmission to the transmission requester. When accepting another request to transmit the same information while the information is being transmitted, the transmission request reception process controller causes the information to be transmitted to the latter transmission requester starting at the current point in the information being transmitted to the former transmission requester. After generating the last address of information, the address generator returns to the top address and again continues generating the addresses of the information. The information read from the memory according to the generated addresses is transmitted from output circuits 14 and 16.

  • Patent number: 5939026
Abstract: An electron beam gas processing apparatus includes a single vacuum vessel maintained at vacuum by means of a vacuum pump and first and second lenses are disposed in the vacuum vessel. An electron beam emitted from an electron source is focused by each of the lenses, and the electron beam is irradiated onto a processing gas in a duct. When the current value of the electron beam is increased as the concentration of NOx in the processing gas increases, the focal distance is decreased by increasing the intensity of magnetic fields or the intensity of electric fields of the lenses in accordance with the current value of a filament, the current value of an arc power supply and the gas pressure in a gas reservoir and the first lens is moved toward a draw-out electrode and the second lens is moved toward the duct, so that a parallel electron beam of constant diameter is formed and the electron beam can be prevented from being increased in focusing diameter.
