  • Patent number: 7451549
Abstract: A magnetic compass apparatus and method to account for magnetic distortion while determining a magnetic heading is disclosed. The method enables a compass module, comprising at least two magnetometers, to characterize its magnetic environment dynamically, while collecting data of a geomagnetic field; a user moves an apparatus through various orientations; the environment may or may not contain magnetic distortion influences. Data gathered by magnetometers and, optionally, accelerometers are processed through at least two filters before being transferred as a processed data set for repetitive measurement calculations. A series of calculations is executed recursively in time by solving one or more linear vector equations using processed data.

  • Patent number: 7444380
Abstract: System and method for delivery of an electronic message from a sender unknown to a recipient when such message comprises a sender code verified by recipient's electronic message handler, thereby eliminating delivery of unsolicited bulk messages. Dispensing sender codes per recipient addresses thwarts senders of unsolicited bulk messages. Dispensing sender codes upon successful response to a human response question further thwarts bulk senders. Sender code calculation according to periodically changing factors limits sender code utility to finite time periods.

  • Patent number: 7441429
Abstract: With the widespread adoption of SIP-based VoIP, understanding the characteristics of SIP traffic behavior is critical to problem diagnosis and security protection of VoIP services. A general methodology is provided for profiling SIP-based VoIP traffic behavior at several levels: SIP server host, server entity (e.g., registrar and call proxy) and individual user levels. Using SIP traffic traces captured in a production VoIP network, the characteristics of SIP-based VoIP traffic behavior in an operational environment is illustrated and the effectiveness of the general profiling methodology is demonstrated. In particular, the profiling methodology identifies anomalies due to performance problems and/or implementation flaws through a case study. The efficacy of the methodology in detecting potential VoIP attacks is also demonstrated through a test bed experimentation.

  • Patent number: 7430650
Abstract: Cache prefetching algorithm uses previously requested address and data patterns to predict future data needs and prefetch such data from memory into cache. A requested address is compared to previously requested addresses and returned data to compute a set of increments, and the set of increments is added to the currently requested address and returned data to generate a set of prefetch candidates. Weight functions are used to prioritize prefetch candidates. The prefetching method requires no changes to application code or operation system (OS) and is transparent to the compiler and the processor. The prefetching method comprises a parallel algorithm well-suited to implementation on an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) or field-programmable gate array (FPGA), or to integration into a processor.

  • Patent number: 7412138
Abstract: This application describes, among others, wafer designs, testing systems and techniques for wafer-level optical testing by coupling probe light to/from the top of a wafer. A wafer level test system uses optical and electronic probes to search for and align with an optoelectronic alignment structure. The test system uses a located optoelectronic alignment structure as a reference point to locate other devices on the wafer. The system tests the operation of selected devices disposed on the wafer. The optoelectronic alignment loop is also used as an alignment reference of known performance for an adjacent device of unknown performance.

  • Patent number: 7397101
Abstract: A horizontal germanium silicon heterostructure photodetector comprising a horizontal germanium p-i-n diode disposed over a horizontal parasitic silicon p-i-n diode uses silicon contacts for electrically coupling to the germanium p-i-n through the p-type doped and n-type doped regions in the silicon p-i-n without requiring direct physical contact to germanium material. The current invention may be optically coupled to on-chip and/or off-chip optical waveguide through end-fire or evanescent coupling. In some cases, the doping of the germanium p-type doped and/or n-type doped region may be accomplished based on out-diffusion of dopants in the doped silicon material of the underlying parasitic silicon p-i-n during high temperature steps in the fabrication process such as, the germanium deposition step(s), cyclic annealing, contact annealing and/or dopant activation.

  • Patent number: 7391858
Abstract: A system and method for routing voice communication to an end user across multiple telephony networks are disclosed. In one embodiment of the present invention, when a caller dials a voice identity number of a user, a policy processor checks a database for information on that number. Depending on whether or not that voice identity number has an associated mapping policy attached to it, the policy processor will determine how and where the call should be routed. If there is no mapping policy associated with the number dialed, the call will be routed to that same number dialed, however, if a mapping policy does exist, the policy processor will determine to which target number the call should be routed based on a mapping of possible numbers and rules based on date and time.

  • Patent number: 7356456
Abstract: In a design system using virtual hardware models, a filtering manager for filtering execution results and determining which software instructions are candidates for restructuring. In some examples, illegal address range instructions are identified based on exception records and restructured software instructions may redirect memory access to an appropriate memory location thereby enabling the use of hardware device drivers in conjunction with hardware emulations, simulations or virtual models without requiring driver source code modifications. Using different filtering criteria, some or all legal and/or illegal memory access software instructions may be redirected to mapped memory locations enabling control over memory access functions. In some cases, debugging tools may be configured or altered to reduce, limit or disable exception handling trace messages, thereby improving overall processing performance by eliminating or reducing unnecessary or burdensome error or trace report generation.
