Abstract: A brake lining wear indicating device is inserted into an aperture (7) of a brake lining carrier (8) of a drum or disc brake from the side facing away from the brake lining (1) and secured in the aperture. The indicating device includes a slotted (16) sleeve shaped holder (2) and a contact member (3) inserted into and axially secured to the holder and has an electrical conductor (4) therein. In order that the indicating device can be fitted into brake lining carriers of different thickness, holder (2) has on its side facing away from the brake lining (1) a frustonconical section (13) having an outwardly narrowing inner frustoconical area (14) and several axially extending slots (16). When contact member (3) is inserted into holder (2), frustoconical part (13) of the holder is forcibly radially expanded and wedged into aperture (7) of brake lining carrier (8).

Abstract: A control system for supercharging an internal combustion engine equipped with an automatic transmission includes a capacity changeable supercharger. The supercharger is controlled by a supercharging capacity controller, having data representative of at least one supercharging capacity control line, so that its supercharging capacity is charged according to operating conditions of the internal combustion engine. A transmission shift controller, causing the automatic transmission to shift according to operating conditions of the internal combustion engine, has data representative of at least one gear shift control line for a shift operation of the automatic transmission. The at least one gear shift control line has an intermediate portion, including an intersection with the supercharging capacity control line defined by a specific engine load between upper and lower middle vehicle speeds.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for measured injection of additives into oil products and the like, in particular aims at the filling of fuel in tank farms for transport by tank trucks. Each batch of fuel shall have a pre-set proportion of additive. After each terminated filling and successively at a number larger than one, there is recorded a signal (S6) which represents discrepancies between actually supplied amount of additive and the amount which corresponds to the pre-set proportion. From the first signal (S6) there is calculated a further signal (S7) which represents discrepancies throughout said number of fillings and this further signal serves as a reference or correction value during the subsequent filling operation. A particular supply conduit (10) for fuel is adapted to give a through flow of fuel in order to remove remaining amounts of additive from the measuring system itself.
Abstract: A safety blade has a cutting edge 41 formed with a plurality of protrusions or projections 42 extending in front of the blade in a comb structure which extends from one end of the cutting edge to the other. The projections prevent the edge from contacting skin, but do not prevent the cutting edge from performing its function. Such a blade may be used in kitchen utensils and cutlery, such as steak or fruit knives, or craft tools or the like.
Abstract: An air cleaning device produces a vertical plane of moving air to block migration of airborne impurities from one area to another, and to create a low pressure area which remotely attracts impure ambient air to it. The device may have one or more restricted air inlets orthogonal to the vertical plane of moving air, with restrictions creating increased air velocity at the inlets resulting in a low pressure zone which attracts impure ambient air to the inlets. A single stage activated charcoal filter which removes chemicals and odors may be provided within the device, as well as an ionizer which electrostatically removes particulates.
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for article registration are disclosed in which surface characteristics such as component locations of printed circuit boards are viewed and compared with a model. The differences so determined are stored for subsequent use in, for example, the placing of components on the boards.

Abstract: A borehole camera monitoring system comprises a camera head assembly adapted to be lowered into a borehole by means of a cable and control unit located above ground for generating a control signal for the operation of the camera. The camera head assembly comprises a fixed portion and a rotary portion containing the camera and associated equipment for examining the wall of the borehole. The fixed portion of the camera head assembly comprises a micro-controller for controlling the operation of the camera, a position encoder for detecting the angular rotation of the camera with respect to the fixed portion of the camera head assembly and a communication interface including means for multiplexing the video signal generated by the camera with an information signal generated by the micro-controller for transmission over the cable and means for extracting the control signal generated by the computer and transmitted over the cable.

Abstract: An electric power supply system is provided for an automatic water discharge device for discharging water to flush a basin. An object detector detects a person before the basin. A brightness detector, which consumes less electric power than the object detector, detects a brightness surrounding the basin. An electric power is supplied to the object detector on a power supply cycle so as to intermittently render it operative and to the brightness detector on a brightness detect cycle. The brightness detect cycle is longer than the power supply cycle. After a set time period following disappearance of a person from the basin, the electric power is, on one hand, shut off from the object detector to render it inoperative and, on the other hand, supplied to the brightness detector on the brightness detect cycle immediately after the shut off of electric power to the object detector, to detect a brightness surrounding the basin.
Abstract: An engine cylinder block includes lower and upper cylinder block portions which are fastened together by bearing cap fastening bolts and cylinder block fastening bolts. The engine cylinder block is provided with a baffle plate, for separating a crankcase from an oil pan. The baffle plate is fastened to the engine cylinder block by the cylinder block fastening bolts. Bearing cap fastening bolts are arranged in a row parallel to an axis of rotation of the crankshaft at each side of a row of bearing caps. The cylinder block fastening bolts, each of which is located between adjoining bearing caps, are arranged in a row parallel to the axis of rotation of the crankshaft on each side of the row of bearing caps.
Abstract: A pulse generator housing for enclosing and containing pulse generator defibrillation circuitry. At least one surface is electrically conductive and connected to the pulse generator circuitry for delivering defibrillating energy to the heart. The pulse generator housing is implanted in the pectoral region proximate the heart with the conductive surface facing the heart. Other implantable electrodes are discharged against the pulse generator housing electrode. Specifically, particular ones of the implantable electrodes are selected for discharge against the pulse generator housing according to detected heart conditions.
Abstract: An intake-exhaust control system includes a mechanism for changing timings at which the open periods of intake and/or exhaust valves overlap. A control unit cooperates with the valve timing changing mechanism to cause it to change the timing stepwise so as to vary the valve overlap in time, or in degrees, in a plurality of steps according to engine operating conditions, such as engine speed and engine load. The valve overlap, when the engine operates under medium or moderate engine speeds, is varied so as to be larger or longer under medium engine loads than under higher or heavier and lower or lighter engine loads.
Abstract: Vitreous ceramic composition belonging to the SiO.sub.2 -Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 -LiO.sub.2 -TiO.sub.2 system in which the components are selected in ranges of definite percentages with the addition of elements exercising a given nucleating effect of promotion of growth of polycrystalline phases and designed to be used as a coating composition to be deposited directly in dry granular form on incandescent supports for producing ceramic with high crystallization speed.
Abstract: A ballast circuit includes a load circuit. A reservoir capacitor is effective to supply charge to the load circuit. A capacitive charge pump circuit is effective to transfer charge from a charge pump capacitive circuit to the load circuit and to the reservoir capacitor. The load circuit includes the primary winding of a transformer. A secondary winding of this transformer is for connection across a discharge lamp. In operation of the ballast circuit, the primary winding of the transformer drives the capacitive charge pump circuit.
Abstract: A particular cooling water passage structure is installed in a V-type engine having two cylinder banks offset in a lengthwise direction of a crankshaft. Each bank is provided with inlet ports, provided to admit a cooling water flow. Each inlet port communicates with a lengthwise front end portion of the water jacket. The inlet port of one of the cylinder banks, which is offset forward relative to the other, is further in communication with a side portion, adjacent to the front end portion, of the water jacket. The inlet ports have apertures which open at the same location in the lengthwise direction. Piping, connected to the inlet ports, is provided in a space formed between the offset cylinder banks.
