  • Patent number: 5124695
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display, each pixel is formed of four separately energizable areas which have relative light outputs in the ratio 1:2:4:8 respectively, thereby allowing a range of 16 grey levels to be achieved by appropriate selection of areas. Each of the areas has a number of segments, which are spaced-apart but concentrically arranged, in order to have the same average position, so that different bit patterns cause the pixel to change brightness only, without any apparent positional change.

  • Patent number: 5124846
Abstract: Disclosed is an outside rear-view for a vehicle which has a pedestal to be mounted to a body of the vehicle and a mirror housing held to the pedestal. An electric motor is provided for tilting the mirror housing relative to the pedestal. The electric motor is mounted to the inner surface of an assembly plate bordering the pedestal towards the body, and the drive shaft of the electric motor is linked preferably through a transmission gear and/or a clutch and through a cam to a rigid transmission member coupled to the mirror housing. Alternatively, the drive motor may be mounted within the interior of the mirror housing, the transmission member coupled to the cam of the driving motor then may be coupled to the pedestal. Thereby the advantages are obtained that the electric driving motor does not project outwardly from the normal outer conture of an outside rear-view mirror and may be utilized for any modes of mounting of the mirror housing to the pedestal.

  • Patent number: 5124494
Abstract: The subject is the preparation of chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE) by a known reaction of 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2,-trifluoroethane (R-113) with zinc powder dispersed in an alcohol such as methanol, and the object of the invention is industrially easily and smoothly carrying out the reaction in a continuous manner. The disclosed process uses a plurality of stirred tank reactors, usually two or three reactors, which are connected to each other in a series arrangement by overflow pipes. A dispersion of zinc powder in an alcohol is continuously fed into the first reactor only so as to allow the dispersion to overflow into the next reactor and then into the remaining reactor(s) in turn, and R-113 is continuously fed into each reactor. CTFE is continuously discharged from each reactor, while zinc in the initially fed dispersion is gradually converted into zinc chloride. In the last reactor the conversion of zinc reaches 90% or above.

  • Patent number: 5124015
Abstract: A continuous electrolytic deposit of constant thickness is formed on a moving substrate (2) constituting a cathode passing in adjacent spaced relation to an anode (3) to provide a narrow electrolysis gap therebetween. The anode consists of a plurality of anode modules (3) which are supported mechanically independent of each other. The electrical and hydraulic circuits respectively feeding the anode modules include flexible sealing members (8, 11, 12, 14) between the fixed sources of current and electrolyte respectively and the anode modules. The anode modules are provided with supports (4, 9, 10) whereby they are supported on the cathode (2) or on a surface (1) directly linked to the cathode. The support for at least one anode module (3) may be adjustable for adjusting the distance between the anode module and the cathode. The supports (4) are shoes or rollers, for example, which may be mounted at the ends of arms (9, 10) supporting the anode modules.

  • Patent number: 5123383
Abstract: An intake system delivers air into cylinders of an internal combustion engine which are divided into two groups. The cylinders in each group are arranged in one and the same row so that adjoining cylinders in each row do not fire one after another. The intake system has conflux chambers for the cylinder rows, connected to the cylinders by intake passages, and also interconnected to each other by a communication passage having a valve. First and second resonant passages are each connected at one end to the respective conflux chambers and are joined together to communicate with each other at another end, opposite to the one end, in a location at which a throttle body is located. The first resonant passage has a connection point with one conflux chamber closer to an interconnection between both the conflux chambers than a connection point in a lengthwise direction of the second resonant passage with another conflux chamber.
