  • Patent number: 5128685
Abstract: The invention relates to an antenna attached to a vehicle roof glass, i.e. a glass plate fitted in an opening of the roof of a vehicle body such as an automobile body, for receiving FM radio and TV broadcast waves in both the VHF band and the UHF band. Essentially the antenna is comprised of a main element which is a conductive strip attached to the roof glass and bent so as to make a closed plane figure, a feed point attached to the roof glass and a connection line which connects the main element to the feed point and extends parallel or nearly parallel to the longitudinal center axis of the vehicle body. The total length of the main element is from 200 to 1500 mm. For example, the main element makes a rectangle in a central region of the roof glass with two opposite sides of the rectangle parallel to the aforementioned center axis. Optionally the antenna may include an auxiliary element which is a conductive strip attached to the roof glass and connected to the feed point.

  • Patent number: 5127932
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of toughening a glass sheet by heating it to a temperature above the strain point and quenching the heat glass sheet while it is advancing horizontally by blowing cooling gas jets onto each face of the glass sheet from an array of nozzles. In advance of such quenching, the heated glass is preliminarily cooled to some extent so as to cool the glass sheet at a relatively high rate in substantially parallel stripe-like regions, which make an angle greater than 45.degree. and not greater than 135.degree. with the direction of advance of the glass sheet, than in other regions. As a result, relatively high toughening occurs in the stripe-like regions. Preferably the preliminary cooling is made only in a central area of the glass sheet. The preliminary cooling has the effect of compensating a toughening pattern attributed to the unidirectional movement of the glass sheet under quenching, so that the toughened glass sheet is satisfactory in the manner of fragmentation.

  • Patent number: 5127800
Abstract: Uniquely contoured interior surfaces have been found to stabilize the flow patterns through centrifugal pumps of the volute type, especially pumps having wide impellers and wide volutes for pumping slurries. The contoured interior surfaces may be provided in the pump casing, but are preferably defined by a volute liner. The interior surfaces comprise a volute region and a discharge nozzle region which both are at least in part contoured interior surfaces and which cooperate to provide a flowingly contoured interior surface of changing axial cross-section.

  • Patent number: 5128578
Abstract: The commutator comprises a commutator base and a plurality of commutator segments. The base is in two parts. One part is a pre-formed base part and the other part is moulded to the base part after the segments have been located on the base part to firmly secure the segments thereto. The commutator is of the barrel-type and the base part is tubular and has castellated ends. The segments have apertured lugs which engage with the castellated ends of the base part and extend inside opposite ends of the base part to locate the segments relative to the base part. The other part of the base forms a sleeve inside the pre-formed base part and firmly secures the lugs and hence the segments to the pre-formed base part.

  • Patent number: 5127161
Abstract: A cutter is described for cutting through an article, such as an envelope, at a given distance from its edge, approximately straight and parallel to the edge. An edge portion of the article to be cut, such as an envelope, is positioned on a floor, and then it is slid with its edge in contact with a sliding side surface perpendicular to the floor. The thing to be cut is pressed against the sliding surface with a press means when cut and slashed with a blade edge at a given distance from the envelope edge approximately straight and parallel to the edge.

  • Patent number: 5126453
Abstract: In a first stage of a process for the preparation of 6-piperidino-2,4-diaminopyrimidine-3-oxide at least one of the two amino groups of a compound having formula (1): ##STR1## where X represents a halogen atom or OH group, is protected by an addition reaction with an isocyanate having formula:R--N=C=OIn this formula R represents an alkyl group, or one of the amino groups. The resulting urea derivative is then oxidized to produce the corresponding N-oxide which is then reacted with piperidine. The protective group(s) are then eliminated by reaction with an organic or inorganic base.

  • Patent number: 5125645
Abstract: The ejecting arrangement has two ejecting wheels which are designed in saw-toothed form on their circumference. The ejecting wheels can be swiveled out of a position in which they are turned by half a tooth pitch with respect to each other into a position in which the stops of the two ejecting wheels are mutually aligned. If the ejecting wheels are offset with respect to each other by half a tooth pitch, each printing product inserted into a pocket of the paddle wheel runs onto a stop and is ejected by the latter from the pocket due to the different speeds of the paddle wheel and of the ejecting wheels and is deposited in imbricated formation onto the delivery conveyor. If, on the other hand, the stops of the two ejecting wheels are mutually aligned, the printing products of two successively occupied pockets in each case make contact with a stop, as a result of which the two printing products are ejected from the pockets mutually aligned with their fold.

  • Patent number: 5125938
Abstract: A muffler for a vehicle exhaust has anterior, intermediate and posterior sections. An array of parallel lateral plates are located in the upper part of the anterior section. Exhaust gas is introduced to the anterior section above the plates from an inlet duct opening into a header above the plates. A gas recirculation duct leads from the header back into the inlet duct to promote turbulent flow of gas through the plates. The posterior section of the muffler has a pair of filters through which the exhaust gas passes and an inflow duct leading into one of the filters into which air under pressure is introduced to mix with the exhaust gas.

  • Patent number: 5125339
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for displacing shaft-mounting bearing stands, which are secured to carriages, in carriage guides, preferably for displacing the bearing stands of plate cylinders and inking rollers of a printing unit in carriage tracks of the inking unit supports of a multicolor rotary press, comprising screw drives, which are driven by electric motors. To solve the object to provide such an apparatus in which shafts and particularly plate cylinders and associated inking rollers can mutually independently be displaced relative to each other and, e.g., relative to an impression cylinder, the invention resides in that a screw that extends parallel to a single carriage track is rotatably mounted in the machine frame or on the inking unit support and is provided with a drive. A nut which is non-rotatably and axially immovably connected to a bearing stand or to a carriage is mounted on the screw.

  • Patent number: 5125715
Abstract: A front body of a vehicle has a pair of box shaped kick-down front side frames, which extend in a lengthwise direction, from front to back, of the vehicle, for forming an engine receiving volume. The kick-down front side frame is contituted by a straight front side frame portion and a kick-down frame portion by which the side frame is connected to a floor frame. A reinforcement, placed within the box-shaped kick-down fornt side frame so as to extend across the straight front side frame portion and kick-down frame portion, is provided with a crushable notch, near a transitional portion of the kick-down front side frame located between the straight front side frame portion and kick-down frame portion. The crushable notch allows the kick-down front side frame to be crushed, or bent, at the transitional portion in a desired pattern of deformation during a collision of the vehicle.
