  • Patent number: 5901998
Abstract: A multi-functional ladder-top tool and parts carrier which has rubber legs for non-damaging support on flat surfaces and a bottom recess conforming to the upper surface of a ladder, a wide handle for easy one-handed or two-handed movement of the carrier to the upper surface of the ladder, and at least one strap attached to the carrier to secure it to the upper surface of the ladder. The carrier also has a variety of different sized openings through its top surface through which different types of tools and parts may be placed which allow for organized storage and ease of access by a person working on or adjacent to the upper surface of the ladder.

  • Patent number: 5893836
Abstract: A water powered vibrating device has a self-propelled eccentric mass that rotates about a shaft in a casing. A pad is supported on the casing, making contact with the casing along a plane substantially parallel to the axis of rotation. A vibration is generated when the self-propelled eccentric mass rotates on the shaft, which vibration is transmitted to the casing providing a strong kneading and rubbing action on the pad with substantially no component of force parallel to the axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5888500
Abstract: A biocarrier loaded with up to 60% by weight of a mixture including a biological control agent. The biocarrier is derived from the residual cell mass remaining after lipids and soluble proteins and sugars have at least in part been removed from crushed or ground oil seeds. The biological control agent is an agrochemical, biopesticide or mixtures thereof. When the product is formulated as a granule, tablet or briquette it has good hardness and produces substantially no dust, thereby reducing operator exposure to the biological control agent.

  • Patent number: 5883318
Abstract: A device for changing the timbre of a stringed instrument of the violin or viol family. The device includes a plurality of sympathetic strings, rigidly fixed at opposite ends in a frame suspended over a sound board of the instrument. A javari bridge is mounted on the sound board, a distance from a main bridge, with the sympathetic strings passing over the javari bridge. When the sympathetic strings are set into vibration by the main strings, the javari bridge brings out upper harmonic vibrations in the sympathetic strings, changing the timbre of the instrument. The javari bridge also makes the upper harmonic vibrations more audible and shortens the period of vibration, avoiding the dissonance associated with sympathetic strings strung over a conventional bridge. When the javari bridge is stepped, the sympathetic strings may be strung in tiers, allowing more strings to be strung in less space and expanding the harmonic sounds produced by the instrument.

  • Patent number: 5879231
Abstract: A mine ventilation structure used to block a passageway or to prevent mixture of ventilation air at the intersection of two passageways. The passageway has sidewalls and a ceiling. The ventilation structure is formed of panels, each of the panels having spaced apart wire grids with an insulation core. The grids are interconnected with strut wires passing through the insulation core and forming a truss system. A layer of concrete is applied as gunite or shotcrete to the panels embedding the strut wires and covering the wire grids. The layer of concrete extends beyond the margins of the ventilation structure onto the sidewalls and ceiling of the passageway forming a monolithic structure sealed in the passageway that is virtually impervious to air.

  • Patent number: 5877401
Abstract: A construct formed from a first RNA molecule carrying an antisense insert complementary to a nucleotide sequence in a second target RNA molecule is used to direct crossovers between the first and second RNAs at or near the site of hybridization. The incidence of recombination and the location of recombinant junctions depends on the structure of the recombining RNA molecules and on the stability of the heteroduplex region. The RNA-RNA construct may be provided in double stranded DNA form. The DNA form may be inserted into a vector and used to transform or transfect a host.

  • Patent number: 5873210
Abstract: A receiver for a tarp bow, a tarp bow and a frame for supporting a removable covering. The receiver is adapted to be attached to a side wall of a container with an open top, said receiver further adapted to be pivoted in a vertical plane with respect to the side wall. The receiver has an open end that is circular in cross section with a coalesced side channel for receipt of a leg of a tarp bow. The tarp bow is preferably formed of aluminum tubing having a cross section complementary to the receiver. A plurality of bows spanning the width of the top opening and mounted in the receivers forms a frame that can be pivoted out of the top opening at either end of the bow.

  • Patent number: 5868449
Abstract: An auxiliary tailboard assembly for attachment to a drop-down tailgate that allows a user to bring the tailboard into vertical position, confining a load to the tailgate, after the goods have been loaded on the tailgate. The tailboard assembly includes a case for attachment to an inside face of the tailgate and a panel which can be extended and retracted in the case. A slot is provided into which the panel is seated when the panel is extended and rotated into vertical position and a stop for preventing removal of the panel from either the case or slot.

  • Patent number: 5819982
Abstract: A dispenser for dispensing disposable lids from a coaxial stack of nested lids. The dispenser has a v-shaped tray with an open dispensing end for holding the stack, a resilient member biasing the lids towards the open dispensing end and a pair of spaced apart friction surfaces opposing the tray at the open dispensing end. The friction surfaces are inclined at a low angle to the stack and overhang the tray forming a throat through which the lids pass. As the lids are pushed into the throat by the resilient member biasing the lids, the friction surfaces stop movement of the stack through the throat and an endmost of the lids is unlatched from a next-to-endmost lid opposite the friction surfaces. A curved finger followed by a stop is reciprocated between the friction surfaces. When the finger is reciprocated towards the stack of lids, it makes contact with the endmost flange, overriding and hooking under its flange.

  • Patent number: 5786028
Abstract: A masking tape used in spray application or removal of coatings along a demarcation line. The tape is engineered so that during the spraying process the coating being applied or the abrasive grit being used to remove a coating makes substantially no contact with the lateral edge of the tape along a shadow zone flanking the demarcation line. The shadow zone is formed between the demarcation line and the tape in line of sight with the coating or grit being sprayed. In a preferred embodiment for use in spray painting vehicles on a production basis, the body of the tape is rubber with a release coating applied to its top surface formed of polyethylene film.
