Abstract: A below-knee prosthesis for immediate post-operative use includes a shrinker socket and a frame fitting and following the contours of the lower socket into which the shrinker socket can be slid and secured. The prosthesis fits most below-knee amputees when provided in a minimal number of sizes. The shrinker socket has inner and outer nesting shells, the inner shell following the contours of an amputation stump and being open anteriorly and having a cut-out with outwardly bowed sidewalls forming a guard for the popliteal area and flanking medial and lateral hamstrings. The outer shell follows the contours of the patient's amputation stump anteriorly with a cut-out for the patient's patella and a channel over the patellar tendon.

Abstract: A drinking container such as a water bottle with a pair of telescoping straws, one of which is attached to a lid for the container and the other of which is threaded on a nut mounted on the lid for longitudinally sliding the second straw in the first straw when the nut is rotated and blocking an airway when the second straw is retracted.
Abstract: A steam cleaning machine has a vacuum pump seated in a recess in a top of a main support housing and a first conduit resiliently sealed in a channel leading under the recess and connecting the first conduit with the air inlet of the pump. The first conduit passes through a vacuum cover which is fitted over the top of main support housing and is attached to a dome which is resiliently sealed to a recovery tank, while a second conduit is connected to the exhaust of the pump. A third conduit is connected to a vacuum nozzle, passes through vacuum cover and is also attached to the dome which is supported by first and third conduits from the vacuum cover. An adjustable handle is pivoted at the back of main support housing.

Abstract: A plastic bag holder for bags with integral loop handles. The holder has planar U-shaped arms including a pair of opposing legs mounted on one side of a bite and with a U-shaped lug formed on the opposite side of the bite. Male and female mating members pivotally hold one leg of each planar U-shaped arm and mount the arms on a planar mounting panel. The male and female mating members hold the legs spaced apart from each other and in at least one fixed angular position with respect to the mounting panel.
Abstract: A process for stabilizing rice bran containing protein and a naturally occurring lipase enzyme that causes rancidity. The rice bran is treated with an antilipase enzyme, preferably a nonspecific protease of plant or fungal origin. Treatment with the antilipase enzyme stabilizes the rice bran against rancidity without denaturing the protein. Stabilized rice bran has food and industrial utility and can be processed by a sequence of steps including wet milling and microfiltration into a variety of other products also having food and industrial utility. In some instances depending on the product, it is not necessary to stabilize the rice bran before wet milling and microfiltration.
Abstract: A cat litter sifting device for use with clumping litter includes a pair of nesting pans, the inner one of which has a plurality of holes sized and spaced apart to pass unclumped litter but which trap substantially all clumped litter and fecal matter. The inner pan has uniform bottom and side walls and is closely fitted in the outer pan so that there are substantially no gaps for trapping litter between the pans.
Abstract: A compact disc holder for a conventional jewel box has a unitary body and a closure plate. The unitary body has a chamber with a planar top for the jewel box and an attached tab. The tab has a ridge which rises out of the plane of the tab and is angled towards the planar top of the chamber. The ridged tab renders the compact disc holder resistant to folding and facilitates proper placement of the compact disc holder in a display box.
Abstract: A pneumatic wheelchair cushion system has an air cushion with adjoining separate chambers for cushioning a user's coccyx, ischial tuberosities, greater trochanters and thighs. The chambers are pneumatically interconnected with each other such that pressure on one or more of the chambers is transmitted to the other chambers and to a control module with a controller for maintaining an inflation pressure in the air cushion within an upper and a lower set point.
Abstract: A steam cleaning machine wherein the clean water tank serves as a chassis for the machine. A main support housing and a recovery tank is mounted on top of the clean water tank which has an upwardly bowed bottom forming a cavity within which is mounted a spray nozzle and a vacuum nozzle. The clean water tank is mounted on wheels, an axle of which passes through the clean water tank. The spray nozzle is mounted on a pan saddled in the cavity and the vacuum nozzle is received in a pair of lateral grooves and a notch formed in the cavity for that purpose.

Abstract: A slide to be partially inserted under the floor contact portion of a heavy structure such that the structure can be easily slid a short distance. The slide is formed as a laminar assembly including a flat plate formed of an abrasion resistant lubric plastic material such as high molecular weight polyethylene and a non-slip pad formed of a natural or synthetic plastic material such as natural rubber. The rim of the slide not under the floor contact portion tends to bend upwardly so that the heavy structure slides easily over the floor while the pad keeps the heavy structure from sliding off the slide.
Abstract: A combination tool for lifting furniture and modular office panels with adjustable leveling glides mounted on a threaded shaft and for removing glued down carpet. The tool has an elongated handle and a blade pivoted about a fulcrum spaced rearwardly of the front end of the blade. The front end of the blade has a transverse cutting edge and a longitudinal slot opening from the transverse cutting edge for straddling the threaded shaft when the tool is used to lift the furniture and panels. The handle is attached to the blade at an obtuse angle and the blade pivots about a fulcrum spaced rearwardly of the front end of the blade such that the front end of the blade is elevated from about 1/2 to 2 inches above the floor at full pivot.
Abstract: Antibacterial fibers are disclosed which are produced by immersing fibers in a solution containing a copper compound, as monovalent copper cations, and at the same time or subsequently treating the fibers in a solution containing carbonate and/or borate anions.
Abstract: Polymer and wax bound military explosives and propellants are removed from a rocket casing, warhead or the like. Included with the explosive or propellant are materials added to improve brisance, resiliency, etc. of the explosive material and adventitious materials such as glue. The polymer and wax bound military explosive is oxygen balanced with an oxidizing agent in the form that it is removed from the casing, etc. and provided as an explosive, for example, for use as a powerful blasting agent.
Abstract: A glue unit having a glue shoe and a glue wheel. The glue shoe has an adjustable metering plate and the glue wheel has a rim with depressions in its central area flanked by smooth side sections. The glue shoe has front, rear and side walls that are closed at the top with a top wall with the space between the walls forming a glue reservoir. The side walls seal to the glue wheel along its smooth side sections confining the glue in the reservoir and keeping the smooth side sections clean. The rear wall is shorter than the side walls and has a recess into which the metering plate is mounted with means for adjusting the metering plate toward and away from the glue wheel for use in applying a film of glue to the depressions. The front wall is coterminous with the side walls and has a plurality of notches permitting return of the glue to the reservoir.
