  • Patent number: 6059424
Abstract: A fluorescent light fixture or luminaire having a housing which has hinge assemblies which pivotally support a mounting plate. The hinge assembly allows the mounting plate on which the lamps and ballasts are mounted to be pivoted to a generally vertical service position or latched by detents in a horizontal use position within the housing. The lens frame is also latched by detents and is pivotal to a vertical position for access to the housing interior. A selected number of lamp sockets can be selectively secured to the plate to receive the lamps. Reflectors and lamp stand-offs may be secured to the mounting plate at bendable tabs formed in the mounting plate. The light fixture is adapted for use with standard or high efficiency compact lamps.

  • Patent number: 6041613
Abstract: A cooling system of the type having a cooler section. The conventional cooling tower is disconnected and replaced by a cooling loop connected to a water source such as a municipal water supply, irrigation system or gray water system which cools the condenser portion of the cooler. Isolating heat exchangers may be interposed in the cooling loop to avoid contamination. A by-pass system and tempering valve maintain the water supply at a predetermined temperature. Heat may be extracted from the water return and utilized at a remote location as for heating a part of a building while another part is being cooled.

  • Patent number: 6041292
Abstract: A computer-aided text processing stenographic system which is spelling independent. The system includes a keyboard which is stroked to translate verbal expressions into a phonetic code in accordance with a vowel omission principle in which all "uh" vowel sounds and unemphasized "eh" and "ih" vowel sounds preceding final side consonants are omitted for medial and ending strokes. The system further includes software to translate the strokes using a translation dictionary based on the vowel omission principle to provide accurate real-time translation. The system may also include a monitor for real time viewing of the text in English and may also include a printer and electronic storage. Other spelling dependencies and conflicts may be eliminated by representing the "aw" sound, vowel sounds preceding the letter "r" and schwa vowel sounds in a prescribed manner.

  • Patent number: 6029611
Abstract: An animal tethering system attachable to a collar or harness worn by the animal to restrain the animal in the cargo area of a vehicle. The system has a short control lead having a loop handle at one end and a fastener at the other. A longer extension leash has fasteners at both ends. When tethered, the control lead is secured by its fastener to one tie down. The extension leash has one end secured to the opposite vehicle tie down and is threaded through the loop of the lead and fastened at its opposite end to the animal's collar or harness. Preferably the attachment location is to a harness in the chest area of the animal. The control lead may be used alone or with the extension leash as a lead when walkling the animal.

  • Patent number: 6027297
Abstract: A multiple use trailer system for hauling conventional and long loads. The front and rear end gates are closed for normal loads and open to accommodate long loads such as re-bar and lengths of pipe. The rear gate has an aerodynamic air wing that holds it in the open position. A dumping mechanism has a platform which is tiltable to dump the trailer and in one embodiment is mounted on a fulcrum which both pivots and moves laterally to maintain a constant dump line.

  • Patent number: 6026990
Abstract: A holder for an aerosol chemical defense spray. The holder may take different forms and has the appearance of or is part of another device such as a pager, flashlight, baton or handgun. In a preferred embodiment, the aerosol canister is housed in a holder which is attached to a conventional electronic beeper. The holder is readily accessible and does not alert bystanders that the wearer is carrying a defense spray. The various embodiments of the invention include a safety mechanism to prevent the inadvertent or accidental discharge of the chemical spray.

  • Patent number: 6006403
Abstract: A resilient cushioning grip for use on various handles which is readily applied, removable, or transferable to another handle without disassembly of connected parts integral with the handles. The grip provides a firm, safe surface for the user's hands eliminating the need for gloves or resin powder. The grip preferably comprises an extruded resilient pad, rectangular in shape having a hook and loop fastener system. The grip is wrapped around and securely attached to the handle, such as the bar of weight lifting equipment and handles of bicycles, health care equipment, lawn and garden tools, hand tools and other items.

  • Patent number: 5925437
Abstract: A one-way see-through panel assembly enhanced by a retroreflective surface. The panel assembly has a first panel which has a dark light-absorbing surface and an opposite light reflecting surface. A retroreflective sheet is applied over the light reflecting surface to form an assembly. Light passageways, either perforations or a pattern of discrete transparent areas, are provided in the assembly. An image is imprinted on either the surface of the retroreflective panel or the light reflecting surface. The method includes mechanically perforating the assembly which is facilitated by the retroreflective sheet having non-glass reflective formations thereon.
