  • Patent number: 4409651
Abstract: A sequence of control instructions and a number of insertion instructions are stored in memory element groups of a memory accessed by associated addresses in a stored program controlled telecommunications system. The sequence is read and decoded in response to successive address increments. In order to insert one of the insertion instructions between the control instructions, the sequence includes an insertion step or reference indicating a first address assigned to the insertion instruction and a second address assigned to one of the control instructions. Upon decoding the insertion reference, a logical buffering unit is used in order to replace the successive address incrementing by such address transfers that the control instruction accessed by the second address is decoded subsequent to the insertion instruction which itself is decoded after the insertion reference.

  • Patent number: 4405546
Abstract: An object is produced from a tubular blank (10,15,17) of thermoplastic material of polyester or polyamide, preferably of polyethylene terephthalate by reducing the thickness of amorphous material in one or several areas of the blank by means of one or several consecutive re-shaping operations. A mechanical shaping device (23,29,71,81) moves a transitional zone (13,14,113) situated between thicker and thinner material along the blank and simultaneously elongates the blank in the moving direction of the transitional zone while reducing the thickness. After the last re-shaping operation the thinner material preferably has an oriented state. During the re-shaping operation the temperature of the material in the transitional zone (13,14,113) is controlled at a level which, immediately before the re-shaping operation, is within or close to the range of the glass transition temperature (TG).

  • Patent number: 4405895
Abstract: An angle digitizer receives signal representing the sine and cosine of the angle to be digitized. The voltages are fed to orthogonal pairs of input terminals. Between each two input terminals is a set of equivalued resistors to form a resistor ring. At the junction of each pair of resistors is an output terminal. Each pair of output terminals is connected to the input terminals of a signal amplitude comparator which compares the magnitude of the signals at its inputs to give a digital signal in accordance with which is greater. For each comparator the output terminals of the resistor ring are selected such that the signals are in a direct antiphase relationship. An odd set of the comparators is activated first followed by the activation of the even set. Thereafter the binary output values of the comparators are interleaved to form a full digital word which is then tested to see if it is a valid digital word.

  • Patent number: 4403410
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of a printed circuit board is disclosed in which, during the process, conductive tracks 6 are tested for defects 8 relating to their conductivity and any detected defect 8 is repaired by securing a conductive bridge-piece 9 across the defect 8 by a reflow soldering operation. The repair is encapsulated with a protective layer 16 and the manufacturing process, which includes the further application of heat to the circuit board, is continued.

  • Patent number: 4402834
Abstract: A process of dewatering sludge in which raw sludge and a flocculating agent are first mixed by suitable means, then fed into a rotary filter drum or similar device to effect thickening of the sludge and partial dewatering thereof. The now thickened sludge is then conveyed through a filtering assembly in which the sludge is subjected to further dewatering forces, which could be vacuum, centrifugal, static pressure, or pressure while moving along the filter surfaces, thereby further dewatering the sludge. The filtrate discharged from the filter drum and the filtering assembly and also wash water used for cleaning the filter surfaces in the filter drum and the filtering assembly are at least partly returned to the filter drum to effect total flocculation and recapture of sludge particles contained in the filtrate and the wash waters.

  • Patent number: 4400697
Abstract: In a symbol-display system which includes a keyboard for entering codes related to the symbols to be displayed and a memory for storing the codes associated with a line of symbols to be displayed, the symbols being from a font which includes at least one character represented by a set of symbols wherein the actual symbol to be used of the set is determined by the presence or absence on the displayed line of a space symbol immediately adjacent the character, there is disclosed the method of loading the codes in the memory for the display of a line of symbols by providing the keyboard with a key for each character that may be displayed as one of the symbols of the associated set wherein each of the keys represents a base symbol of the set, generating when one of the keys is depressed a base coded-combination of bits and modifying the base coded-combination of bits by changing at least one of the two least significant bits when any immediately adjacent key generated character is a space symbol.

  • Patent number: 4396891
Abstract: A gain control circuit includes at least a first (T1, T2) and a second (T3, T4) transistor differential amplifier the input circuits of which are connected in parallel to a signal voltage source. The gain control is performed by distributing a constant current (Is) between these differential amplifiers as a function of a control quantity (Uc) for setting the transconductance of the stages in a complementary way. The two differential amplifiers are provided with negative feed back (F, R1, R2, R3) but with different feed back factors. As the transistors in the differential amplifiers carrying signals of the same phase are interconnected the output signal from the automatic gain control circuit will consist of a superposition of the output signals of the two differential amplifiers.

  • Patent number: 4395212
Abstract: A screening apparatus for molten plastic material flowing from an extruder comprising a housing mounted on the extruder and having a feed channel for flow of the plastic material therefrom and a slide member mounted for slidable movement in the housing with a clearance therebetween. The slide member contains replaceable screen elements adapted for being positioned in the path of flow of the plastic material flowing from the extruder to effect screening thereof. In order to seal the clearance between the slide member and the housing to prevent outflow of plastic material therefrom, a flange is mounted on the housing to surround the slide member with a gap therebetween. This permits normal free-sliding movement of the slide member in the housing. The flange contains cooling channels to permit flow of a coolant to cool plastic material in the gap and solidify the plastic material to prevent outflow of plastic material from the gap.

  • Patent number: 4394076
Abstract: Apparatus for recording characters on a photographic record medium including spaced feed and takeup reels for carrying a roll of the medium. A support such as a cylinder is disposed between the reels supports the record medium. A carriage is controllably movable opposite the support and in a direction transverse to the direction of record medium movement. A recording head on the carriage has a radiation emitter device for emitting intensity modulated radiation toward the cylindrical support along a scan line which makes an angle with the direction of the transverse movement.
