  • Patent number: 4292028
Abstract: A cosmetic breath freshener composition having slow release comprising a multiplicity of microencapsulated liquid droplets of flavoring material contained in a carrier. The microencapsulated droplets are soluble in the saliva in the mouth to release the flavoring material. The composition can be used in conjunction with a dental adhesive particularly for use with dentures to release the flavoring material at a sustained rate for long periods of time in the mouth to mask bad breath.

  • Patent number: 4289136
Abstract: A method for effecting percutaneous pain alleviation in which right-angled sawtooth shaped electrical pulses are produced at electrodes for percutaneous application to bodily areas experiencing pain. One of the electrodes is located at the site of the pain while the other electrode is moved to different sites of the region of the pain. At the same time the amplitude of the electrical signals is measured for each site until a maximum amplitude site is located. Thereafter, an electrode is continuously positioned at the located site for a given period of time for continuous application of the electrical pulses which may be selectively varied in amplitude in the range of zero to about 100 volts peak-to-peak and the output current controlled from 1 MA to 40 MA, while the pulse repetition frequency may be selectively varied in the range of about 10 HZ to 100 HZ.

  • Patent number: 4284196
Abstract: It has been found that fluid, semi-fluid, plastic products as well as powder or granular products packed in plastic tubes have caused great problems in tropical countries due to the change in temperature between day and night. In some cases the products have expanded and burst open the closure of the plastic tube so that the contents ran out or, due to their constituents, the products have caused deterioration of the protective properties of the plastic tube. By choosing a plastic tube or olefin plastic and sealing said plastic tube with closures of olefin plastic, as well as orientating the plastic molecules in the tube in both axial and radial direction, a plastic seal is obtained which is not affected by the products enclosed and which also resists expansion of the products without rupturing.

  • Patent number: 4282986
Abstract: A method of dispensing fluid or semi-fluid liquids or pastes in which the liquid or paste is contained in a container having a top flexible dome and a bottom dome connected at their open ends to each other. The method comprises pressing the top dome downwardly toward the bottom dome and forcing the top dome into the bottom dome and discharging the liquid or paste from the bottom dome under the action of the forcing of the top dome into the bottom dome. The top dome can be formed with an internal annular bead which is displaced along the inner walls of the bottom dome to scrape off material stuck to the inside walls of the bottom dome.

  • Patent number: 4281313
Abstract: Apparatus used in identifying a person by means of pressure patterns and X-Y movements of a stylus associated with a signature includes first and second spaced and parallel planar conductor means with an excutcheon means for defining on an exposed surface of one of the elements to provide a writing surface for a user who, by means of a stylus, exerts a varying pressure pattern via the lamina onto one of the elements to produce a varying capacitance signal while at the same time interrupting light paths to produce X-Y coordinate signals.

  • Patent number: 4281409
Abstract: In electromagnetic communication different data streams share a common communication medium by being multiplexed. Each individual data stream employs its own unique modulation waveform set. A receiver for a given data stream comprises correlators for the waveforms in the corresponding modulation waveform set. If the waveforms in all the different modulation waveform sets are not orthogonal, then the output of correlators at a given receiver will not only contain the desired information components of the data stream to which they are matched but also components from the other data streams. This is termed cross-talk. Processors are provided which are responsive to the outputs of all waveform correlators. They provide a means for detecting the original data stream information in the presence of cross-talk. When there is no noise in the communication transmission the processors cancel the cross-talk.

  • Patent number: 4279211
Abstract: A seamer for completing two preformed abutting sheets has a wheeled body for straddling by rolling over the sheets. Sets of die rollers and opposed backing rollers longitudinally aligned along the body are driven by a drive unit after being pivotably positioned in operative opposed relationship. A control mechanism including sensors extending from the body seeks the presence of the preformed sheets or an obstruction to control the operation of the drive unit.

  • Patent number: 4276822
Abstract: Apparatus for the batch filtration of suspensions comprising a plurality of press-chambers and filter belts for transporting the suspension stepwise through the press-chambers, such that after pressing the suspension in the first press-chamber and before entry of the resultant press cake into at least one subsequent press-chamber, the structure of the press cake is changed by shearing forces and the press cake is curved and at least partially torn apart. In the case of municipal sludge the flaked sludge is subjected in a first pressing zone to slow increase of pressure and a pressure of up to about 1 bar and is subjected in at least one following press zone to a pressure increase which is more rapid than in the first press zone, up to a pressure of about 3 bars.

  • Patent number: 4277748
Abstract: An angle digitizer receives signal representing the sine and cosine of the angle to be digitized. The voltages are fed to orthogonal pairs of input terminals. Between each two input terminals is a set of equivalued resistors to form a resistor ring. At the junction of each pair of resistors is an output terminal. Each pair of output terminals is connected to the input terminals of a signal amplitude comparator which compares the magnitude of the signals at its inputs to give a digital signal in accordance with which is greater. For each comparator the output terminals of the resistor ring are selected such that the signals are in a direct antiphase relationship.
