  • Patent number: 4353190
Abstract: An elongate support member of the type generally used to span a pair of horizontally spaced supports is stiffened by pivotally attaching thereto at spaced points along its length at least two posts which extend in the same general direction and generally transverse to the length of the support member, and by pivotally attaching tension members or ties to a point at or near each end of said member and the free end of the nearer post and from at or near the free end of a post to the pivotal connection of the next adjacent post to the member, whereby the tension members or ties cross each other between adjacent posts. This form of stiffening allows bending moments and deflections arising as the result of loads applied to the member to be reduced and rendered positive.

  • Patent number: 4353049
Abstract: A two position rotary type magnetically actuated reed switch (10) having magnetic detents is disclosed. The preferred switch includes a housing (12) having confronting magnetizable side walls (13, 14), a shaft (22) secured to the housing (12) for rotation relative thereto and means (30) at one end of the shaft (22) for effecting manual rotation thereof, a magnetic member (36) secured to the shaft (22) for rotation therewith between the confronting walls (13, 14) whereby the member (36) is in magnetic detented contact with one wall (14) when the shaft (22) is rotated to a first position and in magnetic detented contact with the other wall (13) when the shaft (22) is rotated to a second position, and a magnetic reed switch (60) supported in the housing (12) in the vicinity of the wall (14) such that the switch (60) is activated when the shaft (22) is in its first position and deactivated when the shaft (22) is in its second position.

  • Patent number: 4351093
Abstract: A modular yarn craft system is provided wherein preformed central sections having a plurality of rods extending outward therefrom are mateably connectable with each other or tubular members so as to provide a connection zone between the elements having a continuous cross-section for providing a continuous flush modular framework. Yarn is continuously wrapped around that modular framework so as to produce a substantially flush wrapped fiber design.

  • Patent number: 4351484
Abstract: A method of grinding metallic ingots into small chips or powder, which comprises the steps of providing a cutting element including a plurality of teeth, providing a plurality of ingots, each comprising a main body having a lower surface, a front end and a rear end, the rear end having an outwardly extending projection and the front end having a corresponding recess at least partially defined by a lower surface, the lower defining surface of the recess having an angle .alpha. associated therewith where 0.degree.<.alpha..ltoreq.90.degree.; arranging the ingots in end-to-end relation with the projection of each ingot in the corresponding recess of the next; and disposing the lower surfaces of the ingots on a guideway and feeding the ingots, front ends first, along the guideway into the cutting element to effect grinding without waste or damage to any of the grinding apparatus. An ingot configuration for practicing the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4350467
Abstract: An apparatus for the self-unloading of dry, particulate bulk material from multiple storage chambers comprising a plurality of aligned holds or the like (12, 14, 16, 18), having aligned discharged gates (46) formed in the bases thereof for discharge onto a longitudinal, tunnel conveyor (50). A pair of scraper conveyors (52) pivotally mounted (54) to a vertical frame (56) are movable into and out of each such hold with the aid of hoists (58) and vertical elevating mechanisms (62). A longitudinally movable support (64) is further provided for transferring the assembly lengthwise of and above the respective holds as well as for traversing the support (64) within each hold to facilitate unloading operations in connection with each such hold. The scraper conveyors may thus be deployed within or removed from the relatively narrow hatchways (22) of the several cargo holds for sequential operation within each.
