  • Patent number: 8320597
Abstract: An accessory for a portable electronic device having a speaker uses an acoustic wave guide to passively amplify and direct the output of the device's speaker. The accessory has a housing with a docking cavity formed therein. The docking cavity has supportive sidewalls that are adapted to receive and support the portable electronic device in an upright position. A cable access channel is formed in the docking cavity that allows a connector and cable to be coupled to the portable electronic device when the portable electronic device is mounted in the docking cavity. An acoustic waveguide having a spiral shaped acoustic chamber is positioned in the housing such that an entrance to the acoustic waveguide corresponds to a hole in the docking cavity that is positioned to correspond to the location of the speaker of the device when the device is mounted in the docking chamber. The exit of the acoustic chamber corresponds to an exterior opening in a sidewall of the housing and the hole in the docking cavity.

  • Patent number: 8319215
Abstract: With an increase in the definition of a display device, the number of pixels is increased, and thus the numbers of gate lines and signal lines are increased. Due to the increase in the numbers of gate lines and signal lines, it is difficult to mount an IC chip having a driver circuit for driving the gate and signal lines by bonding or the like, which causes an increase in manufacturing costs. A pixel portion and a driver circuit for driving the pixel portion are formed over one substrate. At least a part of the driver circuit is formed using an inverted staggered thin film transistor in which an oxide semiconductor is used. The driver circuit as well as the pixel portion is provided over the same substrate, whereby manufacturing costs are reduced.

  • Patent number: 8317909
Abstract: The present invention provides compositions and processes for preparing metallic ions for deposition on and/or into conductive substrates, such as metals, to substantially eliminate friction from metal to metal contact. It is used in the aqueous embodiment to form new metal surfaces on all metal substrates. The processes form stable aqueous solutions of metal and metalloid ions that can be adsorbed or absorbed on and/or into conductive substrates. The aqueous solutions consist of ammonium alkali metal phosphate salts, and/or ammonium alkali metal sulfate salts mixed with a water soluble metal or metalloid salt from Group I through Group VIII of the periodic table of elements. The aqueous solutions allow for a nano deposition of the metal ions on and/or into the surfaces of conductive substrates. The surfaces created by the deposited metal ions will provide metal passivation and substantially eliminate friction in metal-to-metal contact without the use of hydrocarbon based lubricants.

  • Patent number: 8318587
Abstract: It is an object to provide a method for manufacturing an SOI substrate in which reduction in yield can be suppressed while impurity diffusion into a semiconductor film is suppressed. A semiconductor substrate provided with an oxide film is formed by thermally oxidizing the surface of the semiconductor substrate. Plasma is generated under an atmosphere of a gas containing nitrogen atoms and plasma nitridation is performed on part of the oxide film, so that a semiconductor substrate in which an insulating film containing nitrogen atoms is formed over the oxide film is obtained. After bonding the insulating film containing nitrogen atoms and a glass substrate to each other, the semiconductor substrate is split, whereby an SOI substrate in which the insulating film containing nitrogen atoms, the oxide film, a thin semiconductor film are stacked in this order is formed.

  • Patent number: 8317026
Abstract: A child-resistant package including two panels having one or more blister apertures and a particular manner of accessing the product within the blister apertures. One manner of accessing the product involves applying pressure to punch tabs defined by staggered perforations. Another manner of accessing the product uses tooled access slots designed to receive a tool to peel away tab strips to facilitate product access. Yet another manner of accessing utilizes tab strips, one or more folding lines and one or more crevice forming lines where the crevice forming lines are designed to receive a tool used to obtain access to the tab strips, and thus, facilitate access to the products. Still another uses dual tabs that need to be sequentially peeled away from the child resistant package housing to facilitate access to the product contained.
