  • Patent number: 8345750
Abstract: Scene change detection in encoding digital pictures is disclosed. A statistical quantity ?M is calculated for a given section in a current picture. A window of one or more sections is defined around a co-located section in a previous picture. A statistical sum E is calculated over the sections in the window. A difference between the statistical sum E and the statistical quantity ?M is calculated. The difference between E and ?M is used to determine whether the given section is a scene-change section. Whether the current picture is a scene-change picture may be determined from the number of scene change sections. Information indicating whether or not the current picture is a scene-change picture may be stored or transferred.

  • Patent number: 8334217
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to a method of functional materials deposition using a polymer template fabricated on a substrate. Such template forms an exposed and masked areas of the substrate material, and can be fabricated using polymer resists or Self-assembled monolayers. Deposition is performed using an applicator, which is fabricated in the shape of cylinder or cone made of soft elastomeric materials or laminated with soft elastomeric film. Functional materials, for example, metals, semiconductors, sol-gels, colloids of particles are deposited on the surface of applicator using liquid immersion, soaking, contact with wetted surfaces, vapor deposition or other techniques. Then wetted applicator is contacted the surface of the polymer template and rolled over it's surface. During this dynamic contact functional material is transferred selectively to the areas of the template. Patterning of functional material is achieved by lift-off of polymeric template after deposition.

  • Patent number: 8325223
Abstract: A shuttered filter apparatus comprises a frame, one or more shuttered filters attached to the frame, and a tracker attached to the frame. Each shuttered filter is configured to selectively prevent a viewer from seeing through the filter in response to a signal from a controller. • Patent number: 8318386
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to methods useful in the fabrication of nanostructured devices for optics, energy generation, displays, consumer electronics, life sciences and medicine, construction and decoration. Instead of nanostructuring using colloids of particles, special vacuum deposition methods, laser interference systems (holography), and other low-throughput limited surface area techniques, we suggest to use nanotemplate created by novel nanolithography method, “Rolling mask” lithography. This method allows fast and inexpensive fabrication of nanostructures on large areas of substrate materials in conveyor-type continuous process. Such nanotemplate is then used for selective deposition of functional materials. One of embodiments explains deposition of functional materials in the exposed and developed areas of the substrate. Another embodiment uses selective deposition of the functional material on top of such template.

  • Patent number: 8309163
Abstract: A high-throughput method of forming a semiconductor precursor layer by use of a chalcogen-containing vapor is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method comprises forming a precursor material comprising group IB and/or group IIIA particles of any shape. The method may include forming a precursor layer of the precursor material over a surface of a substrate. The method may further include heating the particle precursor material in a substantially oxygen-free chalcogen atmosphere to a processing temperature sufficient to react the particles and to release chalcogen from the chalcogenide particles, wherein the chalcogen assumes a liquid form and acts as a flux to improve intermixing of elements to form a group IB-IIIA-chalcogenide film at a desired stoichiometric ratio. The chalcogen atmosphere may provide a partial pressure greater than or equal to the vapor pressure of liquid chalcogen in the precursor layer at the processing temperature.
