Abstract: Quinolones with antihypertensive activity have the general formula I, ##STR1## wherein X is the residue of an optionally substituted benzene ring; R is lower alkyl; R.sub.3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen, lower alkyl, or, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a 5 to 7 membered saturated heterocyclic ring optionally containing an additional hetero atom selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur and optionally substituted by 1 or more lower alkyl groups; and the dotted line between positions 2 and 3 of the quinolone nucleus represents an optional bond. The compounds are useful as antihypertensive agents. They are also indicated for use in treating heart failure and ischaemic heart disease.

Abstract: A method for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of congestive heart failure, angina, occlusive peripheral vascular disease or cerebral vascular disease in mammals, such as humans, which method comprises administering to the mammal in need of such treatment and/or prophylaxis an effective and/or prophylactic amount of a compound of formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, R.sub.8, and X are set forth in the specification herein.

Abstract: A method for cooling a material in contact with a cooling medium comprises evaporating water contained in the cooling medium and adsorbing the evaporated water to soft burnt lime and causing the evaporation and the adsorption to be carried out under a reduced pressure to cool the material. An apparatus for carrying out the method is provided.

Abstract: Benzimidazole derivatives of the formula (I): ##STR1## or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sup.2 is ##STR2## or --C.tbd.C--Ar wherein Ar is phenyl unsubstituted or substituted by one to three substituents selected from the group consisting of halo, lower alkyl, hydroxy, unsubstituted or substituted lower alkoxy, aralkyloxy wherein the alkyl moiety is a lower alkyl moiety, lower alkenyloxy, lower alkynyloxy, difluoromethoxy, lower alkylamino, methylenedioxy, trifluoromethyl, cyano, lower alkylthio and lower alkylsulfinyl; R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 a hydrogen or lower alkyl or R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached form a cyclopropyl ring; and R.sup.3 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, acyl or lower alkylsulphonyl are useful in the treatment of ulcers of the stomach and duodenum in humans and animals.

Abstract: Sterile packaging contains a sterilized cassette and a needle assembly and a cover for the cassette in its own sterile packaging. The cassette assembly maintains the operating field sterile and free from contaminants before the needle is inserted, while it is in place and during its removal.

Abstract: Glass or plastics substrates which in use are susceptible to misting and which have on at least one surface thereof an antimist coating. The coating is formed from a hydrophilic polymer which comprises a hydrophilic polyurethane which contains from 35 to 60% by weight of water when hydrated and which has a thickness of from 3 .mu.m to 50 .mu.m in its anhydrous state. Substrates in which the coating comprises a first layer formed from a polyurethane which contains from 0 to 35% by weight of water when hydrated and in which a second and subsequent layers are formed from a polyurethane which contains 60 to 90% by weight of water are also described. Methods for forming the coatings are also described.

Pharmaceutical compositions and processes for preparing compounds of formula I are disclosed.

Abstract: Apparatus for partial detection of voltages or charges on the body of a human or animal and for the removal of such voltages or charges, which comprises at least one element which acts as an amplifier or as an electrically controllable switch and has a working-current circuit and a control-current circuit, the latter having a control connection and a common connection for the control-current circuit and working-current circuit; an electrode acting as a probe which is connected to the control connection; an indicating device which is controlled by the current in the working-current circuit; and a voltage control element which, in the absence of external voltage on the probe, maintains the control connection at a predetermined voltage level.

Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition for topical administration consisting of two liquid phases designed to be admixed in situ or prior to use. The first phase contains a dissolved drug, and is preferably saturated in the drug, while the second phase is a chemically or physically different liquid from that in the first phase and contains no drug, but is miscible with the first phase. The two liquids are selected so that, on admixture of suitable volumes of the phases, the resultant drug concentration exceeds the saturated drug solubility in the resultant mixture. This produces a liquid mixture supersaturated in drug, which has been found to increase the rate of drug penetration into the skin. The two liquid phases may be gels, and the drug may be hydrocortisone.

Abstract: The present invention relates to remote control or trajectory calculation systems for missiles for example, and in particular to a message receiving device which may be mounted on the missle itself.The receiver of the invention comprises means for receiving the j sequences of the message, means for shifting each sequence by a time .DELTA.t.sub.j, means for confirming that the sequences of 1's are indeed associated with sequences of 0's, means for reading the word formed of the j sequences, j being an appropriately chosen integer.The invention applies to radar responder and any transmission carriers.

Abstract: A dispenser for a viscous pharmaceutical composition comprises a tray, a support layer, a viscous pharmaceutically acceptable carrier which optionally contains a medicament and a removable protector layer. The support layer covers the base and at least two opposed sides of the tray and is capable of extending over the top edges of the said sides of the tray so that stiffening means may be fitted to the extended portion. A viscous pharmaceutically acceptable carrier overlies the support layer and may be lifted from the tray on the support layer using the stiffening means as handles. A removable protector layer covers the exposed surface of the carrier on the tray. The carrier adheres more strongly to the support layer than to the protector layer so that the latter may be peeled from the carrier without disturbing it on the support layer. Preferably the carrier contains from 1 to 12.5% by weight of antibacterial agent.

Abstract: A suspended ceiling system for a room comprises a plurality of inverted T-shaped members suspended from the structural ceiling of the room and extending across the room, each T-shaped member having a horizontal base portion, and a plurality of open metal ceiling panels having opposed sides and ends and a bottom are supported by the inverted T-shaped members by means of a flange on one side wall of a panel resting on one side of the horizontal base portion which is received in a slot formed between the flange and detents in the side wall, while the other side of the horizontal base portion is received in slots in the end walls of the next adjacent panel.
