Abstract: A single line (pressure-vacuum) pneumatic tube system capable of incorporating one or more novel intermediate stations. A unique pressure-vacuum chamber and a novel air shifter valve in the central station provides either pressure or vacuum for the system without turbulence or significant pressure drop. An air relief valve in the tubing significantly reduces noise at the end station. The end station is provided with a valve for return air. The system is unitized eliminating custom design of simple systems.
Abstract: A dynamo-electric machine is provided with a protective circuit arrangement whereby the machine is caused to be switched off if a short circuit current flowing in the machine exceeds a predetermined level.False operation of the protective circuit is avoided by incorporating a discriminating circuit which is able to distinguish the phase angle between the current and the voltage. This causes the protective circuit to trip for an over load current where the phase angle difference is small and the power factor near unity, which occurs with resistive fault situations; and not to trip where the phase angle difference is high, and thus there is a low power factor indicating a reactive condition, which occurs on start-up of the machine. A machine is able to run more safely as a result.
Abstract: The invention comprehends a pedal operated mechanism comprising a pedal, means for mounting the pedal for pivotal movement about a substantially horizontal axis (considered in one orientation of said mechanism) in a substantially vertical plane, an output means adapted for operative connection to a flexible cable element, connection means operatively connecting the output means and the pedal such that the output means will translate the cable element, when operatively connected thereto, in response to pivotal movement of the pedal, and adjusting means for swivelling the output means relative to the pedal about a substantially vertical axis into any of a plurality of angular positions in a horizontal plane such that the cable element can extend in any path complementary to the angular position in which the output means is adjusted, the connection means maintaining said operative connection between the pedal and the output means in whatever angular position the output means is adjusted.
Abstract: An animal fumigating unit is provided for defleaing animals. The unit comprises a container having a rotatively displaceable rear wall and having an opening in the front wall to enable the head of a contained animal to project exteriorly of the container. A flexible material is attached to the container and covers the opening. Radially symmetrical slits in the material intersect in alignment with the center of the opening enabling the material to fit firmly around the animal's neck.
Abstract: A visual aid for broadcasted golf games consists of a three-dimensional relief map of holes on real golf courses. The map is imprinted with vertical and horizontal grid lines and coordinates. Grid locations of played ball positions are broadcasted so that the broadcast audience can chart play on the map. The map is provided with scaled, punch-out trees and other obstacles which, in conjunction with the contours of the map, convey to an observer spatial information about the layout and obstacles of particular golf holes.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a cushioned extension for a telephone earpiece has bodies connectable to the male threads on a standard telephone handpiece. In a second embodiment the cushioned extension partially surrounds the handle portion of the handpiece and is anchored thereto by plates overlying the inner portion of the handpiece handle. A cushioned extension for the earpiece of a telephone handset has upper portions which extend outward from the earpiece and which terminate outwardly in a radially extending flap arcuate rim. A cushion having two similar arcuate parts is connected to the outward extension of the body and to the rim in each embodiment. A first part of the cushion overlies the rim for contacting the head of a user in an area surrounding an upper part of the pinna of an ear. The inner cushion part fits within the body extension for resting softly against an earlobe of the user without pressing the earlobe against the user's skull.
Abstract: The invention provides a device for use in the field of machine tools which includes a turret mounted rotatably on a turret-head, several equidistant tool-holders integral with the turret and provided with centering means receiving a centering pin, and centering means housed in the turret-head both to center a tool-holder in its operating position and to lock the turret in an angular position corresponding to said operating position.

Abstract: A helicopter rotor is formed with spars and ribs. The spars form parts of the surfaces, and long slots are constructed in the spars to provide suction and blower slots. Air is withdrawn in slots nearest the leading edge, and engine exhaust is conducted to a suction/blowing device which in turn blows air through slots near the trailing edge. Helicopter engine exhaust is mixed with air and fuel and is recombusted. Air is drawn into a recombustion chamber of a suction/blowing device from suction surfaces on the helicopter rotor blades. This suctioned air is then re-routed to the slots near the trailing edge and blown over the upper and lower surfaces of the blade.

Abstract: Two sensors spaced at a known separation produce signal pulses when activated by the wheels of a taxiing aircraft. The signals are transmitted to a processor in which the wheelbase of the aircraft can readily be calculated. Since specific aircraft types have unique wheelbase dimensions and characteristics, the type of aircraft passing the sensors is determined in a processor. Also, the time, direction, and speed of the aircraft can be determined and logged by the processor.
