  • Patent number: 5205317
Abstract: A gate valve is provided having a housing with an interior channel, and a gate which slideably engages the channel. The valve includes a peripheral seal, positioned in the channel to prevent the flow of fluid around the edges of the gate. The valve also includes a transverse seal positioned in the housing to prevent the flow of fluid along the planar surfaces of the gate. The transverse seal includes a generally U-shaped casing disposed about a packing material. The packing material maintains pressure against the casing, thus forcing the casing against the gate. The surface of the casing which is adjacent the gate includes a plurality of raised ribs. The casing includes a bottom member, and two oppositely disposed legs. Each leg has a foot at its distal end, extending away from the packing. Scraping blades are positioned adjacent to each leg member and its corresponding foot. The scraping blades clean debris from the gate, and prevent "rolling" of the seal into the channel.

  • Patent number: 5203948
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for the bending and pressing of laminations into 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional curves. The apparatus includes a pair of spaced apart rotatable clamps for the clamping of the laminations at spaced apart locations. At least one of the clamps is movable towards the other clamp. Counterclockwise rotation of the clamps bends the laminations held by the clamps. A clamping force of at least one of the clamps is controllable so that the laminations may be bent while a mutual sliding movement of the laminations in at least one clamp is permitted. The laminations are bent to a radius larger than a desired radius. At this point, the clamping pressure is increased to prevent the mutual sliding movement so that upon further bending of the laminations, the outer laminations are pressed against the inner laminations at a substantially evenly distributed force along the bent section of the laminations.

  • Patent number: 5202220
Abstract: An optical recording medium is disclosed herein which comprises an antistatic and scratch-resistant metal oxide layer on the light incident side of a transparent substrate. The metal oxide layer has a light transmittance high enough to transmit at least a portion of the light beam therethrough and a sheet resistivity low enough to suppress the substrate from getting electrostatic. Such a metal oxide layer can be deposited either directly, or through an interfence layer, on the substrate with a thickness of 100 to 1,000 Angstrom.

  • Patent number: 5178180
Abstract: The present invention includes an improved transverse seal in a gate valve having an assembly portion and a gate. The assembly portion comprises a body, a chest and a top structure or bonnet. The improved transverse seal is located within the chest of the assembly portion and is in constant contact with the gate on each side of the gate. This transverse seal comprises a pliable, longitudinally extending casing of generally U-shaped cross section having a bottom member in contact with the gate and two oppositely disposed leg members. The bottom member is provided with a plurality of raised ribs. A packing material rests within the cavity of the casing, to provide support and pressure on the transverse seal. The oppositely disposed leg members also include longitudinally extending flanges at their distal ends. A rigid scraping blade is placed adjacent to each leg member and rests on its corresponding flange such that one edge of the scraping blade continuously contacts the gate.

  • Patent number: 5172566
Abstract: A temperature regulating apparatus for an air-circulated refrigerator is disclosed, capable of keeping the refrigeration room temperature constant by way of closely regulating the flow rate of cold air admitted into the refrigeration room. Also disclosed is a control device for controlling operation of the temperature regulating apparatus. Such a temperature regulating apparatus comprises a core member 50 either extendible to open up the cold air inlet port 12 or retractable to close off the same. A multiple turns of a coil 54 surrounds the core member 50 in order to produce a varying level of inductance i.e. an electrical signal proportional to the axial displacement of the core member 50. This electrical position signal is transmitted to a control device 20 which serves to control the operation of the damper flap actuator based on the temperature signal from a temperature sensor 22.
