  • Patent number: 4789579
Abstract: A die-cut paint masking part for use in masking a curved corner surface of an object to be painted comprises a flexible, paint-impervious mask, a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive material permanently adhering to the underside of the mask, and a removable flexible protective liner releasably adhering to the adhesive layer. Prior to use and while flat, the masking part has a generally Y-shaped configuration and includes a base leg from which diverge a relatively wide branch and a relatively narrow branch. The base leg and wide branch have a common curved first edge. The base leg and narrow branch have a common curved second edge. A notch or cut-out to facilitate folding is formed at the point where the two branches converge. The protective liner is provided with two score lines, formed during die-cutting of the masking part from a web, which define three independently removable liner portions.

  • Patent number: 4787646
Abstract: The riding mower chassis of this invention has laterally spaced front traction wheels, attachment fittings for a mower that rides in front of those wheels, and laterally spaced rear wheels that can float up and down to accommodate terrain irregularities, For such floating a rear axle has at its midpoint a pivot connection with the frame whereby its ends can swing up and down, and the rear wheels are mounted on its ends for rotation and for swiveling relative to it. Swiveling of the rear wheels is controlled by an operator seated on the chassis from a steering wheel at its front. A pair of cable stretches that have their front ends connected with the steering wheel shaft extend rearwardly at the underside of the chassis frame to connections with a steering linkage on the rear axle.

  • Patent number: 4785986
Abstract: Apparatus for drying a running paper web and floatingly suspending it without contact during the drying process, including air bars which are considerably larger than conventional air bars, for example, being about five and one-fourth inches square in cross-section, and being about three and one-half inches between their nozzle slots. These large air bars are spaced apart from one another along each side of the web a distance of about 15 inches. By so dimensioning the air bars providing the greater spacing between the air bars, considerably more drying capacity is provided, on the order of 14 percent, and requiring less energy input into the dryer. Web drying equipment for sealingly mounting the air bars on the air supply duct means so that the bars can be individually adjusted toward and away from the web can also be tilted or pivoted to change the angle of the drying air being discharged against the web.

  • Patent number: 4783013
Abstract: The invention relates to a jaw crusher wherein shims behind a toggle beam define various positions of its fore-and-aft adjustment along way slots in which its end portions are guided, and wherein the toggle beam is shifted forwardly away from the shims and rearwardly towards them by a pair of hydraulic rams, each connected between the housing and an end of the toggle beam. At each end the toggle beam has a forwardly-downwardly inclined surface slidingly overlain by a wedging member that cooperates with the upper surface of the adjacent way slot to wedgingly prevent forward shifting of the toggle beam and confine it against the lower surfaces of the way slots. Each ram has link connections with the toggle beam and with a wedging member whereby the latter is pulled forward out of wedging relationship before the toggle beam is shifted forward and is pushed back to wedging condition after the toggle beam engages the shims.

  • Patent number: 4780182
Abstract: A method and suitable apparatus for periodically analyzing pulp stock, including wood pulp and water, in a pulp digester, to determine the amount of cooking to which the pulp has been subjected. The method includes taking a sample of the pulp stock from the digester, diluting the sample to a predetermined range of consistency, and determining the exact consistency of the sample. Next, the sample is transferred to a reaction chamber. A reagent is then added to the sample and allowed to react with the sample at a predetermined temperature. The light absorbance of the reagent during the reaction is continuously monitored during the reaction. After the light absorbance has clearly passed a peak, the value of the peak is combined with the consistency of the sample, previously determined, to arrive at the amount of cooking to which the sample had been subjected prior to the test, from a known relationship thereof to the light absorbance of the reagent and the consistency of the sample.

  • Patent number: 4778073
Abstract: The invention relates to a pressure vessel, particularly to a drier vessel for a vehicle air conditioning installation, and a method for making it. In the production of known pressure vessels, a hollow core body optionally provided with auxiliary winding bodies is provided with an outer winding layer of fibre-reinforced plastic acting to improve the resistance of the vessel to internal pressure. The production of such pressure vessels is rather expensive, because the core body and auxiliary winding bodies have to be separately prepared and formed to the desired shape of the finished pressure vessel.

  • Patent number: 4766656
Abstract: A table supports a cardboard file unit body as it is manually slid edgewise forwardly, engaged against a fixed but adjustable side edge guide, into engagement with a fore-and-aft movable front edge guide and an air microswitch thereon that actuates a punch mechanism. After punch operation, the front edge guide moves forward, bringing the punched portion of the body between the wings of a metal tab waiting at a peening station. Arrival of the front edge guide at its forward position trips another air microswitch to actuate a tab peening mechanism. The tabbed body is then manually withdrawn rearwardly and a new tab is automatically fed rearward to the peening station from a stack of tabs in front of that station. The punching and peening mechanisms, front edge guide and tab feed slider are actuated pneumatically.
