  • Patent number: 7493855
Abstract: A printing system is used for printing newspapers or for job printing and includes a web-fed press, including an unreeling stand, and one or more printing units for printing a web that is unrolled from a roll at the unreeling stand. A re-rolling stand may be used to wind up the web, after it has passed through the printing units. A separating device forms a second part of the printing system and includes an unreeling stand which can receive a roll of a printed web. The printed web can be unrolled and can be directed to a subassembly from this re-rolling stand. In the subassembly, the further processing of the web can take place at a different time and place, and at a different speed than the original printing of the web.

  • Patent number: 7483573
Abstract: Signals generated by an electronic image sensor, during pattern recognition of image contents in a test piece, are evaluated. The image sensor receives an input light signal and emits an electrical output signal that correlates with the input light signal. The image content of a window, having a size of n×n pixels, is analyzed. The output signals that are either directly or indirectly emitted by the image sensor are transformed into at least one translationally invariant characteristic value by the use of at least one calculation specification. This characteristic value is weighted by at least one fuzzy matching function which correlates with the value range of the characteristic value. A higher-order fuzzy matching function is generated by linking all of the matching functions by use of a calculation specification including at least one rule. A sympathy value is determined from the higher-order fuzzy matching function. That sympathy value is compared with a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 7476865
Abstract: A signal source for use as a frequency source or time keeping signal source includes a radioactive emission source generating a substantially periodic signal corresponding to a radioactive material's disintegration rate. A radioactive emission detector generates a radioactive emission detection signal and, to stabilize the detected periodic signal, a dead time controlling attenuator blanks or shuts off the radioactive emission detection signal for a selected dead time interval in response to each detected radioactive emission (i.e., a detected signal pulse or signal component) generated by the source. The dead time controlling attenuator output provides a long-term and short-term a stable periodic signal.

  • Patent number: 7448322
Abstract: A roller closing device is provided with an inner element and with an outer element. These two elements are arranged at least partially in a coaxial manner. The inner element can be deflected radially with respect to the outer element by the use of at least one elastic body which is arranged between the two elements. This elastic body is configured as a rolling diaphragm. A seal is configured between the inner element and the outer element. The seal closes off a gap between the two elements to prevent impurities from entering the roller closing device when any radial deflection of the inner element takes place.

  • Patent number: 7447353
Abstract: A material, with at least one identification characteristic, is subjected to a qualitative evaluation. A color image of this at least one identification characteristic is taken using an electronic image sensor which produces an electrical signal that is evaluated by an evaluation device. Another electrical signal is obtained from at least one reference image and is stored in a data memory. The second electric signal, has a set point value, for the first electric signal, for at least two set point values contained in the reference image. The first signal is compared to at least two set point values in the second image. The color image of the identification characteristic is tested for deviation from the reference. The identification characteristic is checked for association with at least one aspect of the identification characteristic of the material. The tasks are carried out in a continuous working process being carried out by a machine, such as a printing machine, during a continuous printing process.

  • Patent number: 7442275
Abstract: In many processes used in fabricating semiconductors the wafer is seated on the top surface of a pedestal and heated in a high energy process step, such as plasma etching. The pedestal, chuck or platen may be cooling but the wafer gradually heats until the process can no longer continue. Where large, e.g. 300 mm diameter, wafers are being processed the temperature level across the wafer is difficult to maintain substantially constant. In this system and method the lateral temperature distribution is equalized by a heat sink structure in a chamber immediately under the wafer support on top of the pedestal. A number of spatially distributed wicking posts extend downwardly from a layer of wicking material across the top of the chamber, into a pool of a vaporizable liquid. At hot spots, vaporized liquid is generated and transported to adjacent condensation posts extending up from the liquid. The system thus passively extracts heat to equalize temperatures while recirculating liquid and assuring adequate supply.

  • Patent number: 7421948
Abstract: An adjustment of a transfer of printing ink is accomplished by arranging a first roller in an inker unit and by using that first roller to transfer ink to a forme cylinder. A temperature is adjusted on an outer surface of the first roller by the use of a first temperature control unit which includes an adjuster device. The adjuster device also adjusts a temperature to be set on an outer surface of the forme cylinder by the use of a second temperature control unit. These two temperature control units adjust parameters of the printing ink through the controls of the outer surfaces of their associated first roller and forme cylinders. The parameters of the printing ink which are adjusted are preferably the ink's tackiness and its viscosity.

  • Patent number: 7422553
Abstract: A cylinder, which is part of a folder, includes a cylinder body with at least one gripper that can be moved between a retracted position within the cylinder body; an extended position, and a clamping position in which a tip of the gripper presses flat material against a surface section of the cylinder body. A pivot axis, about which the gripper pivots between its retracted position and its extended position, is within the cylinder body. A counterthrust element, which cooperates with a separate cutting blade, to cut the flat material which is to be gripped by the gripper, is associated with the cylinder body. The gripper is situated upstream of the counterthrust element, in the rotational direction of the gripper cylinder. A second axis, about which the gripper moves in the peripheral direction of the cylinder, is also provided. Both of these axes are fixed in relation to the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 7415835
Abstract: A system and method for controlling the temperature of a process tool uses the vaporizable characteristic of a refrigerant that is provided in direct heat exchange relation with the process tool. Pressurized refrigerant is provided as both condensed liquid and in gaseous state. The condensed liquid is expanded to a vaporous mix, and the gaseous refrigerant is added to reach a target temperature determined by its pressure. Temperature corrections can thus be made very rapidly by gas pressure adjustments. The process tool and the operating parameters will usually require that the returning refrigerant be conditioned and processed for compatibility with the compressor and other units, so that cycling can be continuous regardless of thermal demands and changes.

  • Patent number: 7392742
Abstract: A forme cylinder is supported and adjusted in a printing group of a rotary printing press, which group includes a transfer cylinder and a counter-pressure cylinder, which two cylinders include interacting support elements. The forme cylinder does not include a support element which interacts with the transfer cylinder. The forme cylinder has a shaft distance that can be adjusted during printing to adjust a contact pressure between the forme cylinder and the transfer cylinder. The forme cylinder may be covered with a waterless printing forme. The contact pressure between the forme cylinder and the transfer cylinder can be adjusted to a property, such as the compressibility, of the waterless printing forme.
