  • Patent number: 7124683
Abstract: A pressure force exerted by first and second cylinders upon at least a third cylinder in a printing machine is regulated by a pressure regulating device. The device can also be using for moving a first cylinder and at least one second cylinder into and out of contact with a third cylinder. Actuators, which exert a radial force on a cylinder cooperating with the actuators, are provided. An aperture angle between the radial forces exerted by two actuators on the same cylinder is the same in both cylinders. That aperture angle is independent of an aperture angle formed by the pressure force exerted by the first and second cylinders on the third cylinder.

  • Patent number: 7121034
Abstract: A grip and bipod mounting device for mounting a bipod supporting grip assembly to a “picatinny” mounting rail structure as are often affixed below the forearm stock of a firearm such as a military rifle (e.g., as per standard MIL-STD-1913). In particular, the present invention is directed to mounting a Parker-Hale style of firearm bipod on a bipod supporting grip assembly including a contoured mounting block segment inletted to cover and attach to a picatinny rail affixed beneath the forearm stock of the firearm. A grip or handle depends transversely from the mounting block segment and has a plurality of evenly spaced circumferential band-shaped outwardly projecting surface features. The bipod supporting grip assembly is releasably attachable to a bipod frame by means of a quick release connector such as a bayonet lock or similar locking means.

  • Patent number: 7083562
Abstract: A folding apparatus utilizes a primary drive motor, at least one cylinder that is driven for rotation by the primary drive motor, and a pair of folding rollers. The folding rollers can be driven for rotation by an auxiliary motor. The folding rollers can be coupled to the rotation of the cylinder by a differential drive that includes three drive take-off members. One of these is connected to each of the cylinder, the auxiliary motor, and the folding rollers.

  • Patent number: 7059259
Abstract: A Wing In Ground Effect Vehicle has a pair of supercavitating endplates (17) which extend below the fuselage (2) such that they can be immersed in water during flight thereover. The endplates have a nose (28) defining a leading edge (20) and adapted to generate a supercavity. The endplates (17) typically pivot about a pivot axis P to provide a stabilising weathercock-type effect.

  • Patent number: 7055428
Abstract: A characterizing number for a cylinder dressing having an elastic layer is determined. The characterizing number is then usable to select suitable geometries of rollers in a printing press. If the roller geometry is already known, the characterizing number facilitates the selection of a suitable dressing. The characterizing number characterizes the roll-off behavior of a dressing independently of a measuring device used to determine the number or an application in a particular printing group.

  • Patent number: 7058536
Abstract: A method for carrying out the functional test of a technical unit utilizes several steps. A test program is created by the selection and storage of control commands held in a data bank. The test program is created depending on the unit for checking. The check command is input into a controller. The control commands are then output to a unit in a defined sequence. The information received back from the unit is then displayed.

  • Patent number: 7047796
Abstract: The invention is directed to a scanned probe microscope including one plate allowing for tip scanning and the other allowing for sample scanning, with the optical axis of the scanned probe microscope being free to permit incorporation into standard optical microscopes. The top plate can be hinged onto the bottom plate, or the top plate can simply be placed on the bottom plate and a rough approach is caused by a dc motor or other mechanism which will enable the two flat plate scanners to have a large z range. In another embodiment, the microscope includes three plates which allow sample scanning, tip scanning and two tips to be operational at the same time. A microscope in accordance with the invention may use a liquid cell, may use a near-field optical element made of silicon cantilever technology, or may use an apertureless probe for apertureless near-field scanning optical microscopy.

  • Patent number: 7044040
Abstract: Leading and trailing edge stitch tab scrap strippers utilize pivot arms which are secured to die block bodies for pivotable motion intermediate their two ends. One end of each arm is adapted to engage a stitch tab scrap portion to be stripped and to effect the removal of the tab scrap from a box blank from which it has been cut. A biasing force is applied against a second end of the pivot arm. The pivot arm is caused to pivot in response to the rotation of an upper male slotting head and a lower die cutting anvil. This pivotal movement is effective to strip or to eject the severed stitch tab scrap.

  • Patent number: 7040231
Abstract: Tension of a web in a rotary printing press is regulated. The web passes through at least two printing groups in the printing press. A change in the extension of the web during the print run is determined based on a phase shift between a first phase position of a printing group and a second phase positioned measured after a last printing group. The change in phase position is compensated for by a change in the web tension prior to the first printing group.

  • Patent number: 7040225
Abstract: Undesirable bending vibrations in at least one rotating component are reduced. An undesirable vibration is counteracted by the use of at least one actuator. A required sequence of signals to be applied to the actuator and/or an intensity level of those signals is based on an angle of rotation position of the rotating component. The rotating component is then subjected to a force based on the position of the angle of rotation.

  • Patent number: 7040233
Abstract: A method and a device for controlling drive units in a printing machine are disclosed. During continuous production, and in anticipation of a foreseeable disruption, one or more measuring values that are suitable for characterizing the disruption, are determined. The measuring values are used to estimate the expected variations caused by the disruptions in the variables affecting the printing process. The variables are preregulated or precontrolled directly before the start of the disruption or during the disruption.

  • Patent number: 7040226
Abstract: A printing unit contains at least one printing group which is comprised of at least two cylinders which cooperate to form a printing nip. At least these two cylinders are interconnected in a positive fit by a drive. The two cylinders can be engaged with one another in a first position (ON), or disengaged from one another in a second position (OFF). The two cylinders can also be disengaged from each other at a spacing distance in a third position (STOP). That spacing distance is sufficient to allow a web in the printing operation to be guided between the two cylinders without making contact with the two cylinders.

  • Patent number: 7036413
Abstract: A printed, endless web is transversely cut by the cooperation of a cutting blade cylinder and a sheet gripping cylinder that also carries cutting blocks. If the web that is to be cut, is noted as having a defect, for example in the printing applied to it, the cutting blades can be withdrawn into the cutting blade cylinder and the deflective web can be diverted away from the folding apparatus.
