Abstract: An electronic image evaluating device includes at least one area sensor that is provided with a plurality of photosensitive pixels. Each of these pixels will emit an electric output signal in response to the light input signal that it receives. The intensity of the electric output signal correlates with the light input signal. This electric output signal is evaluated in an evaluation unit as image information. The pixels of the area sensor can be controlled and evaluated individually, or in groups. Any sector of the maximum monitorable scanning area can be selectively evaluated.

The blanket to be exchanged is stored in a tray that includes at least one code reader which will detect a characteristic that was applied to the blanket for purposes of its identification. The detected characteristic is matched with a plan that is used to accomplish a planned printing process. If a discrepancy in the match is noted, a message, which warns of the presence of an incorrect blanket, is generated before that incorrect blanket is mounted on the cylinder.
Abstract: The tension of a web in a multi-web system is regulated. At least two webs initially run through a first processing step independently of each other and are subsequently combined with each other to form one resultant web strand. The web tensions of these two initially independent webs are adjusted to each other through a first regulation process. Each of these webs has its web tension regulated on the separate web path by a dedicated second regulation process which is different from the first regulation process.

Abstract: A cylinder of a printing unit of a web-fed printing press includes a cylinder channel which receives plate ends and includes plate end retaining devices. A remotely controllable actuating device or an actuator is located in the channel. The actuating device, or actuator is preferably a piezoelectric system or is in the form of a magnetostrictive system. This actuator is usable, preferably during continuous printing, to shift a plate end retaining device inside the channel in an axial direction of the cylinder to achieve an improved register precision and lateral register precision. The device makes it possible to counteract the influence of a transverse strain imposed by the material to be printed and acting transverse to its direction of conveyance, such a transverse strain having an effect on a common printed image that is printed at different positions of the printing unit.
Abstract: A dryer is used for drying a web of material. The dryer includes a passage duct for the material web. Drying takes place within this passage duct which includes at least one straight section. The dryer is disposed on a printing group which includes vertical web guidance. The passage duct straight section is essentially horizontal and receives the web of material delivered to it by the printing group. The passage duct is comprised of at least two sections through which the web of material travels in opposite directions.

Abstract: A transport or conveying device is used in a folding apparatus for transporting or conveying signatures. A transport or conveying cylinder, which carries the signatures, is placed in cooperative engagement with another cylinder. A position of a terminal end of a signature carried on the transport or conveying cylinder can be altered. The other cylinder that cooperates with the transport or conveying cylinder includes devices that press on the signature and that displace the end of the signature.
Abstract: A locator system includes two main components, namely, (1) a beacon tag that is readily attached to a person or article, and (2) a transportable finder or receiver/processor for sensing the relative position of the tag and indicating changes in that relative position to a user. The method for locating a person or article preferably uses an audible feedback signal to the user for informing the user, when moving, whether the relative position of the beacon tag is getting closer to the finder or farther from the finder. The locator system includes at least one beacon tag comprising a transmitter programmed to transmit a unique coded pulse signal. The beacon tag is housed in a lightweight portable envelope or container and includes a battery, an antenna, a large programmed gate array and a frequency reference (e.g., a crystal oscillator).
Abstract: An electrical energy generator with improved efficiency has a base on which is mounted an elastically deformable micromechanical element that has a section that is free to be displaced toward the base. An absorber of radioactively emitted particles is formed on the base or the displaceable section of the deformable element and a source is formed on the other of the displaceable section or the base facing the absorber across a small gap. The radioactive source emits charged particles such as electrons, resulting in a buildup of charge on the absorber, drawing the absorber and source together and storing mechanical energy as the deformable element is bent. When the force between the absorber and the source is sufficient to bring the absorber into effective electrical contact with the source, discharge of the charge between the source and absorber allows the deformable element to spring back, releasing the mechanical energy stored in the element.
Abstract: A system and method in accordance with the invention communicator remotely with remotely controllable down hole tools in a well bore at a drilling installation. At the surface, high energy pressure impulses directed into the tubing or the annulus, or both, being at a level to propagate through an interface between very different impedances zones, such as an upper level gas zone and a lower level of mobile fluid media extending down into the desired downhole location. The pressure impulses, provided by directionally gating along the longitudinal confining path a pressure impulse initially having sharp leading and trailing edges, reach the downhole location as physical perturbations forming a discernible pattern that can be detected by one or more energy responsive transducers. With combinations of these signals, one of a number of separate control devices can be remotely actuated.
Abstract: A method for operating a printing group and a device for the use of a printing ink in a rotary printing press is disclosed. The tack of an ink that is used in a printing group of a rotating printing press, or the temperature of a rotating component in the printing group is selected or controlled. The ink itself is temperature regulated in response to production speeds to maintain the ink tackiness in the desired range. A gradient that sets forth an interrelationship between ink tackiness, temperature and production speed can be used in a control device for use in temperature regulation.

The carrier element can be engaged with the roll of material in a non-positive manner.
Abstract: A single step process for nucleation and subsequent epitaxial growth on a lattice mismatched substrate is achieved by pre-treating the substrate surface with at least one group III reactant or at least one group II reactant prior to the introduction of a group V reactant or a group VI reactant. The group III reactant or the group II reactant is introduced into a growth chamber at an elevated growth temperature to wet a substrate surface prior to any actual crystal growth. Once the pre-treatment of the surface is complete, a group V reactant or a group VI reactant is introduced to the growth chamber to commence the deposition of a nucleation layer. A buffer layer is then grown on the nucleation layer providing a surface upon which the epitaxial layer is grown preferably without changing the temperature within the chamber.

At least one of these forme cylinder end receiving channels rolls off against a channel in the transfer cylinder. One of the forme cylinder end receiving channels is at least partially covered by a printing forme carried by the forme cylinder.
