  • Patent number: 4799542
Abstract: A heat exchanger designed to cool a liquid such as water has a boiler with several upright heat-transfer tubes on whose inner surfaces the liquid descends in the form of a thin film while a refrigerant such as ammonia or a Freon rises within the boiler. To generate the thin films the liquid to be cooled is collected in a storage vessel above the boiler into which the heat-transfer tubes project. Each of these open-topped tubes contains an insert with a frustoconically diverging bottom part approaching the inner tube surface to within a fraction of a millimeter. The bottom part of the insert has an acute-angled peripheral edge insuring the detachment of the liquid from its surface. The several inserts are suspended from a vertically reciprocable piston rod forming part of a pneumatic jack whose alternate pressurization is controlled by a relay in response to two microswitches actuated by cams on the piston rod and to two level sensors ascertaining the liquid level in the storage vessel.

  • Patent number: 4780382
Abstract: The invention is a process for making a transmission mask which can be used in structuring a semiconductor substrate in an additive or subtractive way by two galvanic depositions of layers of which one provides the mask structure and the other a grid structure covering the openings in the mask structure. The thickness of the structure is freely selectable self-adjusting (within the limits of the known engineering methods). The aim is the production of a transmission mask with a constant effective thickness above the mask surface.

  • Patent number: 4768344
Abstract: For conversion of the waste heat into the mechanical energy, in the proposed expander the parts of rotor and circulatory tube have the crucial importance. The rotor is a rotational symmetric hollow disc with the comparison chambers tangentially positioned on its peripheral wall. At the outlet ends of these chambers the de Laval nozzles with corrected divergent parts for supersonic outflow of the fluid flows causing the rotation of rotor, are placed in the position of maximum torque arm. The circulatory tube enables that the part of the fluid from the outlet tube is returned to the expander in the regulated way. The compression chambers and the circulatory system support the favorable conditions of flowing through the nozzles at the partial duties of the heat engines.

  • Patent number: 4762484
Abstract: Comminuted salvaged rubber is heated to the reclaiming temperature in a two-stage process such that part of the overall heat required is introduced by microwave heating and the remainder by convectional heating. Material preheated during the first stage is transferred to the second stage in such a way that the relative position of all the particles is maintained with as little change as possible. Since the temperature profile of microwave heating shows a maximum in the interior and a minimum at the periphery, whereas that of convectional heating is just the reverse, the temperature distribution within the material can be evened out to a great extent by combining these two different methods of heating. Since it is no longer necessary in this case to heat the material to such an extent convectionally, it is possible to avoid caking and the formation of deposits, and thus to considerably improve the quality of the reclaimed rubber.

  • Patent number: 4763129
Abstract: Improvement to satellite telecommunication systems using SS-TDMA (Satellite Switch Time Domain Multiple Access) technique equipped with on board regenerative repeaters consisting of: 1. Transmitting from ground to the satellite a signal (CM) with high frequency stability and in harmonic relationship with digital data rate by modulating the carrier sent by a beacon station for fine tracking of on-board antennas. The signal (CM) being synchronized to the plesiochronous clock (CPL) common to all ground stations is used for: a. on board bit re-synchronization of the data stream after demodulation and re-generation on board of the asynchronous data arriving at the satellite; b. synchronization of reference words related to start of frames sent by the satellite. 2. Modulating the signal CM with digital signals, to be used as high speed telecommand which operate in a totally independent way of the telecommand system usually adopted for satellite control.

  • Patent number: 4762414
Abstract: A static interferometric ellipsometer, wherein a source (3) generates a coherent light-beam with two monochromatic radiations at slightly different frequencies. A first photodetector (6) generates a first beat between the two radiations, to be used as reference. A second photodetector (9) generates a second beat between the two radiations, after they have been polarized in perpendicular planes and separated so that one of them is reflected onto the photodetector (9) by the sample under test (1,2). A measuring and computing system (11) determines the optical properties of said sample starting from the intensity of the second beat and from the relative phase between the two beats.

  • Patent number: 4758291
Abstract: An automatically operating apparatus is disclosed for applying webs of rubber or similar lining material of predetermined width and length to expanded surfaces of walls of steel in vessels, reactors of apparatuses and for pressing said webs thereagainst, with said apparatus comprising a guide frame for a drivable carriage and with said guide frame being easily mountable to follow surfaces of different lengths. Mounted on said carriage is an unwinding means for the web material as well as drivable position and pressing head adapted to be moved in the longitudinal direction of said carriage. The assembly is such that during operation, said pressing head is caused to steadily move along a zig-zag path and, in the course of unrolling said web material from the supply reel, said head positions said web portion against the surface to be lined progressively from left to right and from right to left and presses said web portion thereagainst at a constant predetermined pressure.

  • Patent number: 4756933
Abstract: A process is disclosed for applying to sheet steel an electrically insulating layer which permits mainly a satisfactory welding of the sheets when they have been blanked and stacked. The sheet steel is contacted with a treating liquor which contains a resin that is adapted to be diluted in an alkaline aqueous medium and also contains a fluoride of a polyvalent metal, particularly aluminum fluoride, in an amount of 0.1 to 80 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight resin. The treating liquor is subsequently dried and the sheet is subjected to a stress-relieving annealing, if required. In preferred embodiments of the invention a treating liquor is employed which additionally contains borates and/or dispersed particles comprising silicate and/or polymers and which is applied by means of rollers and is dried at 120.degree. to 350.degree. • Patent number: 4756601
Abstract: The described three-dimensional image viewing apparatus offers the possibility to perceive spatial objects which are reproduced through a pair of stereoscopic images as three-dimensional images, without the necessity to provide auxiliary optical means in the vicinity of the eye during viewing. For this purpose, an optical image forming system according to the basic principle of a microscope is provided between the two images (1a, 1b) of the pair of stereoscopic images and the two exit pupils (11a, 11b) for the eyes of the viewer, consisting of two fields lenses (2a, 2b) located immediately in front of the light-emitting images, two objectives (5a, 5b) a positive optical system on the eye side (9, 10) and of mirrors (3a, 3b, 4a, 4b, 8) for folding the ray paths located between the images (1a, 1b) and the positive optical system (9, 10). With such a viewing apparatus, unusually large exit pupils (11a, 11b) can be achieved, so that the viewer can move around considerably, without loosing contact with the image.
