  • Patent number: 8084686
Abstract: The power box can be stacked while limiting horizontal translation. The power box includes an electrical component box, a cover for the electrical component box, and a support assembly. The support assembly has feet that raise the electrical component box off of the ground. The cover includes one or more raised projections that restrict the horizontal translation of a power box positioned thereon, by dimensioning the projections apart by a distance slightly greater than an exterior width of the support assembly of the power box that rests upon the cover. Horizontal translation is further limited by dimensioning the feet such that, when placed on top of another power box, the interior dimension between two feet is slighting greater than the dimension of the cover. So, when the top power box attempts to slide, the feet of the top power box contact the cover of the bottom power box.

  • Patent number: 8082104
Abstract: A method of identifying one or more rock properties and/or one or more abnormalities occurring within a subterranean formation. The method includes obtaining a plurality of drilling parameters, which include at least the rate of penetration, the weight on bit, and the bit revolutions per minute, and then normalizing these plurality of drilling parameters by calculating a depth of cut and an intrinsic drilling impedance. Typically, the intrinsic drilling impedance is specific to the type of bit used to drill the wellbore and includes using a plurality of drill bit constants. From this intrinsic drilling impedance, the porosity and/or the rock strength may be determined which is then compared to the actual values to identify the specific type of the one or more abnormalities occurring. Additionally, the intrinsic drilling impedance may be compared to other logging parameters to also identify the specific type of the one or more abnormalities occurring.

  • Patent number: 8082286
Abstract: This invention is an improvement upon the basic adaptive signal processors, the Multi-Stage Wiener Filter and the cascaded canceller. The invention combines the concepts of soft weighting the adaptive weights of either type of processor disclosed herein with reiteratively processing the outputs by returning them to the input of the chosen adaptive signal processor. The combination of these functions improves the Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR), the Probability of Detection (Pd), and/or the Bit Error Rate (BER). The invention improves statistical convergence of these types of metrics such that fewer training data samples are needed to achieve a particular satisfactory value of these metrics than would occur using traditional computational adaptive signal processors.

  • Patent number: 8082133
Abstract: A technique is described for managing loading of terrain data into working memory of a computer during a distributed simulation, in which multiple computer systems operated by multiple users participate, where the simulation involves multiple user-controlled objects simulated with a terrain database that is too large to fit in working memory of the computer system. The technique includes calculating an area of interest around each of the objects to be simulated, and then simulating the objects by loading into working memory the terrain pages of the terrain database that overlap with at least one of the areas of interest, and generally not loading into working memory terrain pages of the terrain database that do not overlap with at least one of the areas of interest. As such, at any given time, any given server can have loaded in working memory fewer than all of the pages of the terrain database.

  • Patent number: 8079402
Abstract: An apparatus and method for manufacturing a down hole tool that reduces manufacturing costs and enhances the tool's performance. A belted mold assembly includes a casting assembly, a belt assembly, and a mid-belt. The belted mold assembly is used to fabricate a casting that allows for a larger diameter blank to be used which displaces the more expensive casting material and for using a smaller outer diameter thin-walled mold. The casting assembly is disposed within the belt assembly and the mid-belt is loaded in the volume created between the casting assembly's outer surface and the belt assembly's inner surface. The mid-belt provides a bracing for the casting assembly during the casting process. Optionally, a cap can be disposed on top of the blank for preventing metallurgical bonds from forming between the binder material and the upper portion of the blank. This allows for the excess binder material to remain high in purity so that it can be reprocessed.

  • Patent number: 8077104
Abstract: System and method for improving the interference resistance of an radio frequency (RF) antenna system through passive prescreening of the RF energy incident upon the antenna. The invention physically partitions the RF environment into two or more sectors with respect to the direction of arrival of incident energy. The power level of the RF frequencies of interest incident upon each sector is determined such that whenever the power level exceeds a given threshold, the received signal from energy incident on that sector is modified.

  • Patent number: 8078368
Abstract: A method of operating a lift truck, the method including the steps of actuating an override to move the lift truck from a safety configuration into a working configuration, positioning a load onto a front end assembly movably attached to the lift truck, disengaging the override, whereby the lift truck may move into the safety configuration once the load is removed from the front end assembly. The lift truck includes a motorized mover, a front end assembly movably coupled to the motorized mover, and a load sensor coupled to the front end assembly. The front end assembly is positionable between a safety configuration and a working configuration. The load sensor detects the presence of the load on the front end assembly. The front end assembly is moved into the safety configuration when the load sensor does not sense the load on the front end assembly.

  • Patent number: 8074955
Abstract: A support pole with enhanced strength along it's base includes an elongated pole member secured to a mounting plate. A majority of the length of the pole member has a uniform cross-section. Slits are cut into each side of the pole member along its lower end. A mandrel is placed into the lower end of the pole and expanded, thereby expanding the lower end of the pole away from the center and creating a larger cross-sectional area at its lower end. The lower end of the pole is secured to the mounting plate. Reinforcing members are welded over the expanded slits and the bottom of the reinforcing member is further welded to the mounting plate. The lower section with a larger cross-sectional area increases the moment of inertia and surface area of the support pole, thereby increasing the strength of the support pole.
