  • Patent number: 5685083
Abstract: A generally conventional plumb level having an elongate rectangular body and generally defining an elongate axis is provided with a circular level element at one end surface of its elongate body. A square or right angle abutment contact surface, which is formed by a flat base which is attached to and projects laterally beyond spaced parallel surfaces of the rectangular body for engaging and contacting a structural member to be aligned. The circular level element is either permanently attached to the elongate body or removably attached, in which case it is movable between operative and inoperative positions which do not interfere with the proper placement of the structural member against the abutment contact combination device.

  • Patent number: 5678701
Abstract: A retail display with bowls for holding and displaying weighty small parts such as steel bolts, nuts, screwdriver bits, drill bits and the like, having a base portion and an upright portion holding the bowls. The upright portion is resiliently cantilevered to the base portion such that it flexes downwardly toward the base portion under applied weight. The bowls are supported in the upright portion in such location that they gently touch or almost touch each vertically adjacent bowl, and the bottom bowl gently or almost touches the base. When a load is applied, particularly when the bowls are filled with weighty products to be displayed, the upright portion flexes downwardly until the vertically aligned bowls firmly touch each other and the bottom bowl firmly touches the base, thereby providing strong support for the weighted bowls.

  • Patent number: 5680193
Abstract: A device positioned on the nose of a wearer of eyeglasses with bifocal lenses having the lens lower parts corrected for near vision. The device includes a housing that defines a nose cavity having an inner surface defining a matrix for receiving the upper nose portion of the nose of the wearer of the eyeglasses. The housing positions the lens bridge above the nose of the wearer so that the bifocal lenses are also raised relative to the eyes of the wearer, whereby when the sight lines of the wearer are directed in a generally horizontal direction, the sight lines are aligned through the lens lower parts. The housing includes a convex surface for supporting the lens bridge and the inner sides of the two lens rims. A keeper structure connected to the housing holds the eyeglasses in position relative to the housing.

  • Patent number: 5676376
Abstract: A composite gaming chip which includes a strong frame made of a brass ring with axial protrusions and a central aperature with notches. A display or electronic transponder is situated between two clear polycarbonate disks each having a recessed face surrounded by a rim. Tabs radially extending from each disk engage the notches in the brass ring. The assembly is inserted into the cavity of a plastic injection mold where it is bonded together by an injected thermoplastic. The gaming chip can be ground flat without scratching the clear recessed face of either disk.

  • Patent number: 5668481
Abstract: A sequence generator for generating multiple-pattern sequences utilizing an inverting non-linear autonomous machine is disclosed. The generation of the sequence is based on the interdependency relationship between the bits of the deterministic patterns in the sequences to be generated. The autonomous machine comprises a number of flip-flop cascades each containing a number of flip-flops. The flip-flops in each of the cascades are connected in a way that the output of one flip-flop is connected to the input of the next flip-flop in each cascade. The autonomous machine further comprises a number of XOR gates each feeding its output to the input of a corresponding one of the cascades of flip-flops. The autonomous machine further comprises a switch device that includes a number of switches for receiving the output of each of the flip-flops in the cascades as feedbacks for outputting to the inputs of the XOR gates.

  • Patent number: 5668955
Abstract: An access controller is placed in series with a subscriber's telephone set and includes an off hook detector, a ring detector, a central office simulator and DTMF circuitry which cooperate with a microcontroller or microprocessor suitably programmed to select one of a multiple providers of services by generating an access code corresponding to one of the service providers in accordance with an algorithm which provides a desired distribution of usage by the subscriber. The controller inserts a five digit prefix, namely the access code into the dialed number. The access code allows the call to be routed through a specific long distance service provider telephone network. By inserting the access code into the dialed number the device selects a particular long distance carrier for the duration of the call. Access codes are stored in a memory list of the access controller.

  • Patent number: 5665793
Abstract: The present invention relates to novel compositions useful, for example, in water-based paints. The compositions contain a moisture sensitive luminescent substance (for example a phosphorescent substance having increased brightness and longer lasting afterglow) and a polyurethane resin which is water miscible or soluble, and which imparts moisture stability to the luminescent substance. As a result, this novel composition when used in, for example, water-based highway paints imparts an extended road surface life, and is environmentally friendly because it does not contaminate the surrounding environment with organic hydrocarbon products via vaporization or runoffs. In addition this paint composition may be used both indoors and outdoors for nighttime marking.

  • Patent number: 5661852
Abstract: An orthopedic shirt used by a patient during a post-operative stage of a repair procedure or treatment involving a patient's shoulder, arm or upper body region, and used with an upper body immobilization device such as an abduction pillow, brace, cast, splint, and the like. The orthopedic shirt consists of a first panel and a second panel that are substantially cut so that either panel may serve as a front or a rear of the shirt. Each panel consists of an outer edge. Each panel further defines a sleeve portion also containing the outer edge. Releasable fasteners are disposed along at least one outer edge of the panels, and sleeve portions of the panels. These fasteners releasably interconnect the two panels, and segments of the sleeves. This releasable interconnection of the panels, and sleeves allows the patient to be dressed or undressed without involving the movement of an immobilized shoulder, an upper body region that has undergone trauma, or an upper body region that has undergone treatment.

  • Patent number: 5662951
Abstract: An apparatus, for making a lens from thermoplastic material in the form of a monolithic preform mass, having a press; and a pair of lens molds positioned in said press. The monolithic preform mass has at least one or more radii and is disposed between the lens molds such that said one or more radii make point or line contact with said lens molds. Means are provided for closing the pair of lens molds, and pressing the molds toward each other and against said preform mass to a predetermined pressure; and for heating up the molds until the preform mass begins to soften with the predetermined pressure varying slightly therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5657805
Abstract: A wind-resistant overhead door includes substantially vertical windbars mounted on the side portions of the frame, and windlocks or endlocks on the lateral edge portions of the intermediate and bottommost of endmost slats of the closure, such as a rolling door. By providing a predetermined clearance between the windbars and windlocks by substantially eliminating such clearance with respect to the lowermost or endmost slat or bar, maximum flexing of the slats in response to wind loads and positive and negative pressures acting on the closures can be substantially eliminated to thereby control and substantially eliminate undesired deflections or gaps about the periphery of the closure. This minimizes the exposure to which glass elements behind the closures are exposes to wind loads, and pressures which can damage the same.
