  • Patent number: 5805327
Abstract: There is disclosed a reshaping device for optical short pulses to effectively perform reshaping of and eliminate noise from an optical short pulse of a pulse width of pico second order less than a carrier life time. Input optical short pulses are applied to a saturable absorption element, while an assist light of a wavelength longer than that of the input optical signal pulses is also applied to the saturable absorption element to accelerate, by stimulated emission, recombination of excited electrons and holes produced in the saturable absorption element in response to the input optical signal pulses, so that the input optical signal pulses reshaped are derived from the saturable absorption element.

  • Patent number: 5802078
Abstract: There is disclosed an acceptable error detector for error correcting block codes, in which of received syndrome vectors S for the received word vectors Y available from the syndrome generator, the m.sub.e -bit received subsyndromes S(m.sub.e) formed by the same components as those of the m.sub.e -bit representative subsyndromes <S(m.sub.e)> uniquely corresponding to the vectors of all the acceptable error pattern with error bits equal to or less than the acceptable number e is applied as addresses into the redundant subsyndrome table memory. Since the stored data specified by the input address are (m-m.sub.e)-bit redundant subsyndromes <S(m-m.sub.e)> which are supposed to appear in the remaining portion of S(=<S>) when the number of error bits is equal to or less than e, the remaining (m-m.sub.e)-bit received subsyndromes S(m-m.sub.e) derived from the received word vector Y in the syndrome generator and the (m-m.sub.e)-bit redundant subsyndrome <S(m-m.sub.

  • Patent number: 5798856
Abstract: The short optical pulse generator is provided with a semiconductor laser which oscillates continuously at a single wavelength, a semiconductor electro-absorption type optical modulator which performs the intensity modulation of the output light from the laser, and a sinusoidal voltage generator and a DC voltage generator for driving the electro-absorption type optical modulator. A DC voltage is applied to the electro-absorption type optical modulator so that the output light from the laser is sufficiently extinguished. By applying a sinusoidal voltage to the optical modulator, short optical pulses are generated.

  • Patent number: 5791363
Abstract: A knockdown portable shelter includes two spaced supports each formed of elongated members that can be separated from each other at couplings securing the elongated members to each other. The elongate members include leg portions and a roof portion. A sheet like covering material extends between the roof portion of the spaced supports and at least parts of the leg portions. The covering material is substantially more pliable along the direction extending between the two spaced supports than along a perpendicular direction. Hinges allow folding of the material along lines extending between corresponding couplings. Disconnection of elongate members at the couplings allows the covering material to be folded along the hinges and rolled up along the direction extending between the supports. One example of a suitable covering material is single face corrugated hollow core material. The elongate members are preferably hollow plastic tubes and the couplings are hollow plastic elbows made of PVC.

  • Patent number: 5788664
Abstract: The present invention provides a suppository applicator for use in the application of a suppository. A suppository applicator consists of a cylinder formed with a longitudinal bore, a plunger slidingly disposed in the longitudinal bore such that the relative axial movement of the plunger in the bore causes a suppository to exit the bore. A first flange is disposed on the cylinder for providing a grip for assisting in the handling of the applicator. A second flange is disposed on the cylinder for limiting the depth of insertion of the applicator cylinder into a body cavity. A second flange is slidingly disposed on the cylinder in one embodiment. A second flange optionally consists of a first end tappered inward toward a second end. Optionally, rotation of said second flange causes translational movement of the flange along the cylinder. A means for releasably locking the second flange is provided.

  • Patent number: 5765941
Abstract: A portable work light having a fluorescent lamp (fluorescent light bulb). The fluorescent lamp has a base which supports a translucent envelope that contains a gas for emitting light when energized by an electric input. Activation circuitry is contained within a base housing, as is a portion of the translucent envelope. A flexible, electrically and mechanically insulating material is injected into the base housing to stabilize and prevent movement of the actuation circuitry with respect to the base housing and translucent envelope, thereby preventing damage to the components of the fluorescent lamp. The portable work light has a transparent cover which supports a lamp. The cover has electrical connectors at one end for engaging the lamp. The cover has a bulb support mechanism which engages a lip on the base of a lamp to maintain the electrical contact of the lamp engaged with the electrical connectors and to inhibit movement of the base of the lamp relative to the cover.
