  • Patent number: 5860568
Abstract: A dispensing apparatus, such as a caulking gun, includes an elongated handle having a U-shape cross section to define an internal space. A support member is mounted on the handle configured for receiving a dispensing cartridge having a nozzle at one end and being sealed at the other end by a slidable diaphragm or seal. A plunger rod and piston assembly is mounted on the handle for operatively engaging the cartridge diaphragm to dispense compounds or viscous mediums from the open nozzle of the cartridge. A trigger is pivotally attached to the handle for incrementally advancing the plunger assembly as the trigger is pulled from an extended position most remote from the handle to a retract position most proximate to the handle. A spring normally urges the trigger to move to the extended position. An aperture is provided in the handle for receiving at least a portion of a nozzle of a dispensing cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5859706
Abstract: A drive pulse for emitting and turning-off a light emitting element is output, the level difference or the level ratio between the light emission zero point detection signal from a light receiving element having received the light from the light emitting element and a putting-off zero point detection signal from the light receiving element when the light emitting element is put off is calculated, and the level difference or the level ratio is compared with a preset level to thereby determine the abnormality of the light emitting element, the light receiving element and a peripheral circuit. With this arrangement, even if the ratio of noise light occupied in the zero point output is reduced, whether detecting elements and the peripheral circuit are good or bad and whether the elements are abnormally polluted or not can be reliably tested without the effect of the dispersion of the detecting elements and the change of an ambient temperature, whereby the reliability of a smoke detector is improved.

  • Patent number: 5839200
Abstract: A combination level has a carrier forming two opposite parallel major surfaces. A tube level is mounted on one of the surfaces of the circular level and a circular is mounted on the other, opposite, surface. either one of the major surfaces can be used directly to abut against a work to be aligned or an additional, preferably elongate, member can be attached to the carrier and which abuts against the work. The carrier is mounted on the abutting member at known angular relationship or the carrier can be mounted for selected angular adjustments abutting to the abutting member, so that selected positioning of the tubular and circular levels are relative to each other on substantially horizontal planes where contact of the work, allows measurement of vertical alignment and plumb condition of the work.

  • Patent number: 5834742
Abstract: In a heater unit comprising a case 10 which accommodates therewithin an electrical heating element 11 and a temperature sensor 12 for detecting the temperature of the case 10 heated by the electrical heating element 11 to stop the power supply to the electrical heating element 11 when the temperature reaches a predetermined value, there is provided a heat conductive path 20 made of a material having a higher heat conductivity than that of the material making up the case 10 and extending from a region corresponding to the space in which the electrical heating element 11 or heater is placed to a region corresponding to the space in which the temperature sensor 12 or temperature detecting and power supply control member is placed. Thus, the heater unit for an aquarium fish tank is prevented from being extraordinarily heated when the tank has been destroyed.

  • Patent number: 5820467
Abstract: A homokinetic joint for linking a driving shaft and a driven shaft of an automotive steering column for transmission of rotation between the driving shaft and the driven shaft. The joint has two opposite end yokes with a coupling yoke intermediate the two end yokes. The end yokes each have an end hub for linking a respective one of the shafts thereto and branched arms defining a yoke or fork opposite the hub for linking the end yoke to the coupling yoke. Two pivotable cross-pieces link the two end yokes respectively to the coupling yoke for positioning the axes of the shafts for homokinetic transmission of torque. A center ball joint unit has a ball stud and spherical ball fixed on one of the end yokes and a guide carried by the other of the end yokes. A sleeve is disposed in the guide and the ball is disposed in the sleeve. The spherical ball is angularly movable in the sleeve for angular offset variation between the shafts during transmission of torque.

  • Patent number: 5816868
Abstract: One and two piece surface mount pin constructions include excess solder receiving channels. In the one piece construction an elongate channel is provided through a tubular pin which is flared or swaged at the lower end to form a base. In the two piece construction a solid pin is provided at a lower end with a uniform cross section in the form of a regular polygon, such as a square, hexagon or octagon. The resulting edges are press-fit against an internal surface of a sleeve which is also swaged at a lower end to form a base. The spaces between the sleeve and the flat or convex surfaces on the captured end of the pin provide the solder-receiving channels. A bead or shoulder on the pins can provide a stop for a vacuum nozzle. When a flared upper lip is used for this purpose it can also serve as a reservoir or well to receive excess solder beyond the amount that can be received in the channels.
