  • Patent number: 4074333
Abstract: An A.C. relay system for making and breaking an A.C. power line utilizing an electromagnetic relay having a coil for opening and closing the mechanical switching contacts, a bilateral gated semiconductor such as a triac connected across the contacts, and a control circuit for switching the relay and triac in proper sequence is disclosed. The control circuit comprises a sequence control unit, a phase detector, a triac firing unit and a relay energizing unit. Upon actuation of the sequence control unit, the triac firing unit first fires the triac and then the relay energizing unit energizes the coil to close the mechanical contacts. To break the A.C. power line, the sequence control unit first de-energizes the relay energizing unit and then after a suitable time interval de-energizes the triac firing unit to cut off the gate signal, the triac being turned off when the load current on the power line is below a triac holding current.

  • Patent number: 4073016
Abstract: A transfer mechanism especially suited for use in the handling and transfer of non-ambulatory hospital patients and having at least one thin plate-like support movable from a retracted position relative to a deck outwardly over a bed or other surface to or from which the patient is to be transferred and loaded by extension of the support under the patient. The support plate is extensible beyond its own width and also through a distance larger than the width of a deck structure on which it may be superimposed by virtue of a carriage assembly with which the separator is translated. Friction between the patient and the laterally translated support is avoided by a thin flexible apron covering the support and movable relative to it in a manner such that the surface presented to the patient is either stationary or movable with the separator.

  • Patent number: 4070439
Abstract: Antimony pentachloride is recovered from a spent antimony catalyst mixture in a simple manner by bubbling through the spent catalyst mixture an inactive gas such as trichlorotrifluoroethane at an elevated temperature to convert and to remove high melting point or high sublimating point substances as lower boiling point substances; converting fluorinated antimony into chlorinated antimony by means of a chlorinating agent such as carbon tetrachloride; converting antimony (III) into antimony (V) by oxidation with chlorine; and recovering antimony pentachloride by distillation. The antimony pentachloride thus recovered may readily be used as a catalyst for fluorination of a chlorinated hydrocarbon by reaction with hydrogen fluoride.

  • Patent number: 4068595
Abstract: Opposed pivotally mounted tamper arms are oscillated by respective single-acting hydraulic piston assemblies controlled by separate hydraulic duplex rotary distributing valves. Fluid supply and return lines for each piston assembly are connected to a source of pressurized hydraulic fluid via the respective rotary valve. Each valve has a stationary ported shell which receives a rotary cylindrical spool having a pair of axially displaced supply and return throughports which alternately register with supply and return line ports in the shell to open and close the connections between the respective piston assembly and the supply and return lines. While the rotary valves are preferably driven by a common drive unit, the relative phase of the oscillations of the arms can be determined by rotationally offsetting one of the spools with respect to the other by the desired phase angle.

  • Patent number: 4069030
Abstract: An energy conservation enthalpy control system utilizes a sensing unit for sensing the wet bulb temperature of sampled air, both outside air and return air, under conditions which approximate adiabatic saturation. The unit includes a housing adapted to pass filtered air through the unit. Water circulated throughout from a sump in the housing is intimately contacted and mixed with the air by a spray or an evaporative pad. A temperature sensing element located in the sump or in the airstream provides a signal indicating the wet bulb temperature of the air under adiabatic saturation conditions. The unit provides the inputs to a control system which operates to coordinate the operations of return air dampers, outside air dampers, and air conditioning equipment.
