  • Patent number: 5982164
Abstract: In a system for locating the position of a transmitter, a platform containing an antenna is moved through a measurement path. The frequency received by the antenna is measured at measurement points distributed along a measurement path. The frequency is measured by cross correlating coherent pulses of the received frequency signal. An inertial navigation system on the platform indicates the position of the measurement path. A computer determines estimated locations by non-linear least squares convergence starting from trial locations. The non-linear least squares convergence is based on the frequency equation for the received frequency ##EQU1## in which f.sub.0, is the transmitter frequency, V is the antenna velocity and r is the range of the transmitter. The computer evaluates a cost function derived from the frequency equation, for each location estimated by the non-linear least squares convergence and selects the estimated location with the lowest cost function as the best solution.

  • Patent number: 5970095
Abstract: A secure method for transmitting data on an isochronous network in which data is spread in successive frames in a manner known to the sender and receiver but unknown to other nodes on the network. In one embodiment, some or all bits which comprise a byte are transmitted in different channels (i.e. time slots) so that the bits which comprise a byte are spread over several channels in a pattern known to the sender and receiver but not to unauthorized parties on the network. This bit spreading can be performed in real time and without latency or performance problems. In another embodiment, the channel or channels assigned for communication between two nodes on the network change in a sequence known to the sending and receiving nodes but not known to unauthorized parties.

  • Patent number: 5967515
Abstract: In an coin operated amusement game, a coin track is provided directing coins toward a plurality of target receptacles arranged to receive properly timed coins. Relative movement is provided between the target track and the receptacles. A properly timed coin inserted in the track will roll down the track, then travel through the air, and then land in and be retained in the target receptacle. Dump targets are provided wherein a properly timed coin will activate the dump target and cause the corresponding receptacle to be dumped and provide the player with an award corresponding to the number of coins dumped out of the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 5963963
Abstract: A computer system having a shared disk file system running on multiple computers each having their own instance of an operating system and being coupled for parallel data sharing access to files residing on network attached shared disks. Methods are provided for use as a parallel file system in a shared disk environment by use of a scalable directory service for the system with a stable cursor, and a segmented allocation map. Dynamic prefetch and cached balance pools for multiple accesses improve the system. Extended file attributes are used for implementation of Access Control Lists in a parallel file system. Improvements to caching and cache performance developments balance pools for multiple accesses. A metadata node manages file metadata for parallel read and write actions.

  • Patent number: 5962929
Abstract: A power distribution system in which the loads are connected in series to a current source. At each load, a current source to voltage source convertor provides alternative current paths. A serial power distribution current path includes a modulated switch (e.g. a pulse width modulated switch) to control the amount of power delivered to the load via a load current path. The load current path includes a diode which couples a capacitor across the switch, providing a semi-regulated voltage input to a d.c. to d.c. convertor connected across the capacitor. The d.c. to d.c. convertor provides a regulated output voltage, which is connected to the load. The control circuit for modulating the opening and closing of the switch is connected in parallel across the capacitor.

  • Patent number: 5959384
Abstract: A motor, encoder/resolver, and/or dynamic brake assembly in which the dynamic brake, when part of the assembly, is mounted on a rear cover plate of a modular housing for the auxiliary components. When a resolver or encoder is part of the assembly, the motor shaft extends only a short distance beyond the resolver/encoder housing module; far enough to be engaged by the armature of the dynamic brake if the brake is part of the assembly. In an assembly that does not use a dynamic brake, the same rear cover plate is used to close the encoder/resolver housing module.

  • Patent number: 5946872
Abstract: A horizontal diaphragm for the generation of floor and roof structures includes a plurality of construction units arranged in rows and integrated joists by clip ties, wherein a load transferring material fills spaces between adjacent construction units in a row, both transversely and longitudinally. Each construction unit includes a lip projecting toward an adjacent unit in the row and defining with the other construction unit a space for receiving the filler material. The clip ties are anchored in the joists and are movable from a position obstructing the placement of additional construction units on the joists to a position integrating the previous construction unit with the joists. The joists comprise U-shaped troughs filled with grout in which the clip ties are anchored at spaced locations. The structure defining the trough can be monolithic or can comprise a plurality of discrete units placed in alignment and connected by reinforcing bars.
