  • Patent number: 4846706
Abstract: An electric plug for connection to an electric cable, the core of the plug having sidewall slots for the wires of a cable and a positive contact with the plug blades by a wiping action, thus obviating the need for threading wires through holes and the tightening of screws on the wires. Other improvements include an improved cable clamping device within the plug and an improved pivoting ground pin with extending screw tab.

  • Patent number: 4846658
Abstract: A flow distributor for use in an extrusion assembly for producing tubing, pipe or blown film from a fluid melt. The distributor is cylindrical with adjacent arcuate channels on both interior and exterior surfaces for respectively forming the inner and outer layers of the extrudate from a fluid melt forced through longitudinal holes into each of the channels. The inner and outer layers are formed in a continuous circular flow so that there is no weld line in each layer; however, when the two layers are merged into a finished extrudate, a single circular weld line is formed at their merged surface and results in a very strong extrudate that resists bursting forces.

  • Patent number: 4845426
Abstract: A prober for the electrical testing of unpackaged integrated circuits on a semiconductor wafer can test these devices between subfreezing to elevated temperatures without generating atmospheric fog or frost on the wafer or associated equipment by directing an enclosed tubular curtain of dry gas, such as heated liquid nitrogen, down from a circular nozzle above the wafer to encircle the device under test. Observations can be made and electrical tests performed within the curtain while all moist atmospheric air is purged from the wafer and surrounding areas so that fog and frost cannot form.

  • Patent number: 4845312
Abstract: An electrical outlet box with attached threaded coupling having a bore entering the box, the bore accomodating either thin wall conduit or cable. A removable gate in an interior wall slot in the box covers the coupling bore and a hole in the gate, smaller than the diameter of the bore, acts as a stop to prevent intrusion of conduit which is secured by a nut threaded on the coupling. When the gate is removed, a cable connector with hex end that snugly fits into the gate slot and is also secured by a threaded nut. Outlets for the box have U-shaped yokes at each end which are pressed into shallow grooves in each interior end wall to secure the outlet in the box, and the box covers have blocks near the sides of the inside surface for engaging the box interior side walls to prevent flexing and breaking.

  • Patent number: 4826321
Abstract: A system for the precise measurement of thin dielectric films on a substrate by directing a plane polarized laser light beam to the film at the Brewster angle of the substrate and by measuring the intensity changes between a measurement from the substrate alone and from the film coated substrate. Accurate thin film measurements in the range of from about 10 to 1,500 Angstroms are possible.

  • Patent number: 4821600
Abstract: A controlled liner actuator shaft that may be used to open and close hydraulic valves is tapped to control a second valve or the like by an actuator shaft housing selectively lockable to the actuator shaft. An adjustable sleeve on the housing pivotally supports a control handle collar and spaced pivotal connections of the control handle to a stationary member and to the valve to be controlled permits manual control when the shaft housing is released from the shaft, and permits actuator shaft control when the shaft housing is locked to the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4813899
Abstract: A life preserver used in pairs characterized by an inflatable air bag with an opening through the center for an arm to slip through. An arc-shaped inflator is attached to the top of the air bag. This also serves as a pull catch for extracting the folded pair of life preservers from pockets where they are stored. The air bag is preferably made from a strong, thin, airtight material. A belt, one end of which attaches inside the pocket where the folded air bag is stored, is attached to the bottom of the air bag, and remains attached after the air bag is extracted, inflated and put to use.

  • Patent number: 4807658
Abstract: A flexible extension air hose particularly for use with dual wheel tires on trucks or recreation vehicles. The hose contains a slidable central cable that extends to a nozzle that screws to the tire valve stem and contacts the valve. The other end of the hose is fitted with an coupling that may be manually adjusted to compensate for variations in the length of the central cable that is caused by bending in the hose. Thus, a air service nozzle pressed to the coupling causes the cable to depress the tire valve so that air may be added or the tire deflated from some convenient position.

  • Patent number: 4807927
Abstract: An adjustable awning attachable to the top of an automobile headrest and pivotable from a lockable vertical position to a horizontal position for protecting an infant in a bassinet beneath the awning from rays of the sun. The pivotable awning is on a rectangular frame that is pivoted at one end to a second frame with an arcuate upper end that hooks over the top of the auto backrest. A limiting chain is used to limit the amount of downswing of the pivoting awning and a dependable lock secures the awning frame in its upward position.

  • Patent number: 4799505
Abstract: An earthquake triggered gas valve in which the valve member on an axial valve rod is forced open by a ball propped between the end of the valve rod and a retractable post in the conical floor of the valve outlet chamber. The ball is at least partially filled with a dense fluid such as mercury which has a inertia that will oppose that of an earthquake moved valve housing. The ball will thus be dislodged to permit the valve to close. The valve is easily reopened by lowering the retractable post to reset the ball which is then lifted to raise the valve rod and valve.

  • Patent number: 4797094
Abstract: A rounder terminal cap is fitted to the end of an orthodontic wire to reduce cheek injury from the sharp wires and is secured by a very small set screw in the cap. The set screw is tightened by a novel tool having a rotatable set screw wrench at the end of a bevel geared rotatable shaft in a elongated housing. For installation, the tool captures a cap between a slideable box or plate that secures a cap on its set screw until the cap is placed on an orthodontic wire and the set screw tightened. The slideable box is then moved to release the cap from the tool.

  • Patent number: 4784582
Abstract: A pneumatically operated pump for dispensing controlled shots of paste material includes a disposal paste syringe tube having a ferrule with an axial dispensing hole centered in the bottom. An axial movable plunger extending through the length of the syringe normally fits into and blocks the dispensing hole, but when the punger is lifted a predetermined amount, the paste under a small pressure flows into the space and, when a driver returns the plunger to its normal position, the paste column is shot through the dispensing hole. The driver for moving the plunger includes a spring loaded diaphram center connected to the drive end of the plunger. Applied air pressure against the diaphragm lifts the plunger and compresses the spring. On release of the pressure, the spring rapidly drives the plunger back to its normal position to dispense a small column of paste.

  • Patent number: 4764853
Abstract: An imitation candle type of table lighting fixture contains one or more rechargeable batteries. While the lamp is in its holder, the battery is continously coupled to the small light bulb. The battery is recharged by removing the candle from the holder and plugging it into a recharging unit having a phone plug extending into a jack centered in the bottom of the candle. The insertion of the plug into the jack opens the light bulb circuit and forms a charging circuit through the rechargeable battery.
