  • Patent number: 5182485
Abstract: An array comprising at least one row of ultrasonic elements when energized generates a pressure pattern having side lobes when viewed in the lateral direction. Those side lobes give rise to undesirable grating lobes. The side lobes in both transverse and lateral direction can be suppressed by having identical and identically arranged ultrasonic elements (14) the width of which, viewed in the lateral direction, is greater than the pitch of the consecutive ultrasonic elements in the row.

  • Patent number: 5164582
Abstract: An image intensifier tube is provided with a channel plate. The channel plate's channels are open both at the cathode side and at the anode side. A high frequency alternating electric field is generated in the space between the cathode and the channel plate. Thereby during a first period of the cycles of the alternating electric field the photoelectrons emitted by the photocathode traverse the space between the photocathode and the channel plate. During a second period of the cycles of the alternating electric field, in which second periods the polarity of the electric field is reversed with respect to the polarity during the first period, any ions that may have emerged from the channels into the space between the photocathode and the channel plate are drawn back to the channel plate.

  • Patent number: 5139599
Abstract: In the decoration of an article having a conical surface by means of a decoration applied from an embossing foil, the embossing foil strip is unwound from a supply roll and passed around a deflection roller to feed it in the proper orientation to an embossing station in which a decoration is transferred from the embossing foil on to the surface of the article. The deflection roller and the embossing foil supply roll perform a linear movement parallel to the axis of the deflection roller and at the same time a pivotal movement about a pivot axis which is normal to that roller axis. The deflection roller is continuously linearly displaced by a distance corresponding to the deviation between the linear configuration of the embossing foil strip and the arcuate configuration defined by the development of the conical surface of the article to be decorated.

  • Patent number: 5134642
Abstract: A slit radiography device scans a body under examination with a fan-shaped x-ray beam. A number of absorption elements placed next to each other can be moved into the x-ray beam to a greater or lesser extent in order to influence the x-ray radiation incident on the body per sector of the beam. As seen in the longitudinal direction of the slit the absorption elements are designed such that a certain distance is present between them. As seen in the direction of the radiation beam the thickness of the material of the absorption elements is always the same so that there are no gaps between the elements that the x rays can shine through.

  • Patent number: 5127930
Abstract: Anti-veiling-glare glass input window for an optical device. The window has throughout a shallow surface layer over its peripheral surfaces radiation absorbent free-metal-induced color centers. A method for preparation of such a window, such is particularly suited to be used as an input window for an image intensifier, involves pre-shaping the window from clear glass and forming color centers in a shallow surface layer over at least the peripheral surfaces of the window. If the clear glass contains reduceable metal oxides the color centers are formed by subjecting at least the peripheral surfaces of the clear glass to a reducing atmosphere at a temperature high enough to cause the reducing atmospheres reducing component to diffuse into a shallow surface layer of the window and to reduce the metal oxides to free metal atoms.

  • Patent number: 5110209
Abstract: A method of adjusting the alignment of a sighting device (5) and a member (4) coupled therewith, said member being pivotable in at least one plane about a first pivot axis (3), and at least part (7) of said sighting device (5) being pivotable about a second pivot axis (6). On the pivotable member an apparatus is mounted which provides a parallel beam of radiation shining directly or indirectly on to the pivotable part (7) of the sighting device (5), and being productive of a point image at the viewing end of the sighting device. The pivotable member is moved into a plurality of different angular positions relative to the first pivot axis (3), and, if during these movements the point image is moved beyond a pre-determined tolerance range, the coupling (8) between the pivotable member and the sighting device is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 5097826
Abstract: There is disclosed a pressure monitoring device for self-containing breathing apparatus including visual indicators disposed in the field of view from the headpiece to monitor when predetermine pressure levels are reached in the tank which supplies gas to that headpiece. The predetermined pressure levels are referenced to the residual tank pressure at which the required breathing gas flow is not sustained and visual alarm provisions anticipate those predetermined pressure levels which are critical, in some embodiments of the invention. A cost effective transducer of reduced pressure range senses the tank pressure and noise is eliminated from the transducer signal by common mode rejection in still other embodiments.
