  • Patent number: 5389371
Abstract: This invention relates to areca food additives, especially, to additives for areca quids and foods containing areca component, and their preparation methods. High alkaline lime always exists in conventional areca food additive. Many problems consequently result such as oral cancer and the polluting of the environment by the spitting of a bright red liquid. A series of eatable neutral calcium salts of organic acid and compounds containing at least one of the following functional groups selected from the group consisting of --NH2, .dbd.NH, .tbd.N, --NH--, --CONH--, --HCO--, --CO--, --COOR--, --S--, and their salts were invented to replace lime. The taste of astringent and harms caused by the polyphenolic compounds of areca quid could be completely improved. The disease of quid chewer would be decreased and the problem of environmental pollution would be improved.

  • Patent number: 5387158
Abstract: There is disclosed a play kit of detachable plastic components capable of forming either a slide assembly or a teeter assembly. The kit includes an elongated plastic playboard as a basic playing element. The latter has a wavy configuration and is preferables constructed in two symmetrical members abutting one another and releasably locked to each other. When used as a slide, the playboard is removably connected, at one end, to an upper end of a plastic support formed with steps to act as a ladder. The latter and the playboard are held together by removable struts. When the basic element is used as a teeter board, the support is made to act as a base. A prop structure is then detachably connected to the said base and to the playboard to allow the latter to teeter as well as to rotate about a vertical axis.

  • Patent number: 5385409
Abstract: A rotary mechanical face seal for preventing leakage of a fluid, either liquid or gas, across two relatively rotating surfaces. The seal is of the non-contacting mechanical type in which a predetermined spacing is maintained between the relatively rotatable sealing washers by formation of a pressurized fluid film between the relatively rotating surfaces. The opposed faces are constructed to provide a separation of the faces at startup and thereby prevent damage or destruction to the faces before design pressures are achieved. This is achieved by providing at least one of the opposed faces with a deflection bearing portion which causes the necessary deflections under load. The bearing portion comprises a spaced series of lift pad sections. A variety of lift pad constructions can be used. The seal also includes a hydrodynamic radial bearing which centers the shaft in the static state to avoid shaft runout.

  • Patent number: 5382097
Abstract: A hydrodynamic bearing which includes a carrier and a plurality of bearing pads circumferentially spaced about the carrier. The carrier is formed with a series of circumferentially spaced groups of pad support openings. Each group of pad support openings includes two or more pad support openings each of which is capable of supporting a pad, but only one of which supports a pad at any one time. The carrier is designed such that the openings formed therein are supported as sets of supports such that each group of openings includes one opening of each set of openings. The carrier supports the openings such that the support of each opening within each set is substantially identical to that of the other openings in its set, but different than the support of the openings of other sets such that each set of bearing pad openings is adapted to support bearing pads for a distinct characteristic deflection.

  • Patent number: 5380252
Abstract: The following technical means is provided to achieve a chain shift operation with a minimum of the guide pulley travel distance, to improve speed change efficiency and operatability, and to prevent the speed change assembly from protruding sideward:At a forward location of a sprocket cluster (2), a link base (8) of a pantograph link mechanism (12) is supported by a chain stay (7), and from this, an inner link (9) and an outer link (10) are extended. To respective free end portions of these links, there is connected a movable member (11), which pivotally supports a chain guide (15) which is elastically urged. The guide pulley travel control means (18) functions in such a way that when the pantograph link mechanism (12) is deformed, it would cause a guide pulley (13) of the chain guide (15) to move inward axially of the hub shaft and at the same time forwardly downward substantially along a radial path of the sprocket cluster (2).
