Abstract: A credit card size portable system comprises a bubble memory for storage serially of digital data, especially of sound analogue signal which has been digitally encoded including, a decoder means for converting the memory output into analogue form, preferably several decoders each for one sound band, a control register for controlling input and output of data from the memory and which is responsive to control data present in the input and output stream, and input and output for the data entering and leaving the card system. The memory can be of 8 megabyte size, which can record 31/2 minutes of music signal. Optical input can be used, with a photoelectric converter at the input. A card is readily programmed with the digital data and can readily be stored or transported for replay of sound signal as desired, in place of conventional discs or cassettes. The control data bits are detected by the control register and serve to control the recording and replay steps.

Abstract: A method for automatic measurement and control in curd making process is provided wherein an electrical current is supplied to an electrical conductor thermally contactable with milk stored in a curd tank so as to be heated to result in sufficiently higher temperature of the said conductor than the surrounding milk, temperatures or electrical resistances of the electrical conductor are measured in relation to time lapse, an elapsed time starting from the commencement of curdling is measured on the basis of a change in temperature or electrical resistance of the electrical conductor, and the elapsed time is compared with a predetermined curdling progress time ranging from the commencement of curdling to curd cutting so as to automatically judge a curd cutting timing.

Abstract: A heat-sensitive recording material comprising a substrate and a heat-sensitive recording layer thereon, the heat-sensitive recording layer containing a diazonium salt, coupler compound, heat-fusible basic compound and at least one of the compounds represented by the formula [I] below ##STR1## wherein X is --O-- or --CONH--, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each hydrogen, halogen, alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or alkoxyl and n is an integer of 1 to 10.
Abstract: A packing sheet for use in a device, e.g. a cooling tower wherein a film of liquid and a gas stream are brought into contact to effect heat exchange therebetween, the sheet being continuously corrugated to define a plurality of parallel depressions which are generally V-shaped in cross-section. Preferably the pair of walls which define each depression are disposed substantially at right angles with respect to one another and are disposed at an angle of around 45.degree. with respect to the plane of the sheet. Preferably the sheet is formed with transverse ribs which project from the walls of the depressions and which extend substantially continuously between the depressions to form channels which communicate between the depressions. Advantageously the sheet is formed in the walls of the depressions with angled projections, which preferably extend continuously between two adjacent crests of the depressions.
Abstract: A method of mixing polymers, especially rubber by (i) deforming the polymer until it is estimated to attain a first predetermined viscosity, (ii) adding filler and deforming the polymer-and-filler mixture until it is estimated to attain a second predetermined viscosity, (iii) adding oil or plasticiser, and deforming and resulting mixture until it is estimated to attain a third predetermined viscosity, and then (iv) discharging the resulting mixture from the process, where the estimating of each predetermined viscosity is attained by measuring: (1) the mixing torque applied by a mixer during the process at last twice at a fixed mixer-rotor speed and corrected by a reference batch temperature; (2) the rate of change of the torque and (3) the time, or the deforming energy, necessary to reach the torque characteristic of the respective predetermined viscosity. In addition, the ram pressure applied to the mixing chamber is monitored and increased or decreased in response to the cyclic ram movement during mixing.

Abstract: In a bioelectrochemical process in which the electrons are transferred directly, without use of a mediator, such as a redox dye or cofactor, between an electrode and an electroactive biological material, such as an enzyme or a protein, in either direction, rapid electron transfer has previously been achieved between an electrode and the positively charged protein horse-heart cytochrome c by adding a surface-modifier such as 4,4'-bipyridyl or a derivative thereof. It has now been found possible to promote electron transfer to either a positively or a negatively charged protein using the same surface-modifier for either job, namely a compound of formula ##STR1## wherein: the pyridine ring shown is substituted in the 2-, 3- or 4-position by the (methylene)hydrazinecarbothioamide group shown;R.sup.1 represents hydrogen atom(s) or one or two methyl or ethyl groups in the 2-,3- or 4-position (when the said position is not substituted by the (methylene)hydrazinecarbothioamide group shown);R.sup.

Abstract: A handbag having a replaceable decorative cover is provided. The decorative cover has a laminated structure. A face sheet, a central core sheet and a back sheet are bonded to one another with the central core sheet between the face sheet and the back sheet. The central core sheet is a size smaller than the face and back sheets. The lamination is done by bonding the peripheral margins of the face and back sheets while the central core sheet is applied with adhesives at appropriate portions to be bonded to the face and back sheets. In this way, the peripheral marginal area of the laminated decorative cover is thinner than the central area thereof with the result that the marginal area can be inserted under the frame attached to the cover or body of the handbag without causing the frame to bulge. In addition, the laminated structure provides a wide range of alternatives in material selection.
Abstract: The administration of the drug, containing defibrotide as the active ingredient, in the case of acute renal insufficiencies accompanied by a thrombotic microangiopathy, permits the evolution of the clinical situation towards the chronicity to be stopped and, in a number of cases, a complete remission to be obtained.

Abstract: Persistent chemisorption bonds of clay solids in clay-containing heavy oil and water emulsions, from oil sands, heavy oil or conventional oil wells, are broken down by mixing the emulsion with an aqueous mixture of coal particles so that the mixture has a suspension density in the range 1 to 50 weight % solids. The coal particles have a particle size in the range 5 to 100 .mu.m so that occluded hydrophilic, inorganic solids are separable from a substantial portion of the hydrophobic, carbonaceous substances of the coal. The mixing of the emulsion with the aqueous suspension of coal particles is continued until agglomerates are formed comprising essentially carbonaceous components of the coal and the heavy oil thereby breaking down the chemisorption bonds by interdependantly dissociating carbonaceous components of the coal and heavy oil from the clay solids and other hydrophilic, inorganic solids and water from the coal and heavy oil.
