  • Patent number: 4629204
Abstract: A mud flap member with a main flap body and an adapter protrusion extending from the upper end of the main flap body is fixed to a motor vehicle body by a portion of its adapter protrusion in such a way that between the motor vehicle body and the adapter protrusion gaps are formed which are too large to substantially retain water therein by capillary action. These gaps are created by providing projections on the surface of that portion of the adapter protrusion in contact with the motor vehicle body or interposing a spacer having such projections between the mud flap and the motor vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 4628549
Abstract: A floatable on water, translucent laminated plastic sheet material having a plastic embossed film with a plurality of embossments dispersed thereon except at the longitudinal edges thereof. The embossments are spaced apart and separated by land areas and a plastic backing film is laminated to the embossed film at the said longitudinal edges and at the land areas. Thus air containing buoyant cells are formed by the embossments of the embossed film and the backing film. The improvement comprise a fibrous material laminated to the sheet material at least at the longitudinal edges thereof, whereby the edges are reinforced by the fibrous material and the edges may be attached to correspondingly reinforced edges of another of the sheet material without substantially weakening the attached sheets of material at the attachments thereof.

  • Patent number: 4628440
Abstract: A transmitter, for electrical appliance control by transmitting digital control signals on a power main, comprises two releasably connected parts, a first part comprising m actuators to initiate the generation of m control signals, and the second part containing a generator for the control signals, and a selector for selecting m out of n control signals. The selector is hidden by the first part when the parts are joined together and may be adjusted to select different groups of m control signals from the n possible signals. All n control signals can be produced, in groups of up to m signals for each condition of the selector. A monitor is also provided to monitor the main in order to achieve transmitter queueing dependent upon the selector settings at the transmitters.

  • Patent number: 4621252
Abstract: For indicating whether a vehicle can pass through a bridge, a radio transmitter is positioned adjacent the bridge to generate radio signals which are encoded with information as to the height of the bridge as presented to vehicles. A vehicle is provided with a radio receiver capable of receiving and decoding the signals from the transmitter, and comparing the height information so derived with pre-encoded information as to the height of the vehicle. A warning signal is produced in the event that the comparison indicates a danger that the vehicle cannot safely pass under the bridge. The technique is also applicable to railway crossings where a transmitter is positioned at the crossing to generate ratio signals indicative of approach of a train so that the receiver on the vehicle may provide a warning of such approach of a train on decoding the radio signals.

  • Patent number: 4619608
Abstract: Chlorine is injected in a gaseous liquid or solution form into a hot (greater than 100.degree. C.) gas stream for the purpose of oxidizing objectionable components in the gas stream, such as, but not restricted to, SO.sub.2 and NO.sub.x, when the oxidized form of the gases is more readily removed from the gas stream. After sufficient reaction time, the gas stream mixture passes through water scubbers for the further removal of the components from the gas stream. Acidic and basic compounds of the gas stream and halogens, including excess chlorine, are also removed in the scrubbers. The pollutants remain as the corresponding oxidized acids or salts in the process effluent solution.
