  • Patent number: 6497616
Abstract: In an air conditioner outlet vent device in which a plurality of second blades are arranged behind a plurality of first blades in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the first blades are arranged. The second blades are linked to a common link member, supported in a housing in a pivotable manner, and can be pivoted by an operating knob that can slide in the direction in which the second blades are arranged. A cut out recess opening toward the first blades and a pair of covers covering opposite sides of the cut out recess are provided on one of the second blades, and an engaging arm provided on the operating knob is inserted into the cut out recess so that the engaging arm can engage with one of the two covers. It is possible thereby to increase the amount of air blown out, and to enhance the air directing performance by making the gaps between the second blades relatively small.

  • Patent number: 6496428
Abstract: A redundancy information region having memory cells for retaining relief information indicating the locations of defective memory cells is arranged closer to at least one of a word driver or a plate driver than a memory cell region and a redundancy memory cell region. Since the memory cells of the redundancy information region start operation earlier, a relief/no-relief judgment can be made earlier, allowing reduction in access time. Besides, in memory cell operations, the defective memory cells are deselected in accordance with address information held in a redundancy address region. Redundancy memory cells for relieving the defective memory cells are selected in accordance with the relief information held in a redundancy flag region. Since the redundancy memory cells are selected without using the address information, it is possible to reduce the time that elapses before the redundancy memory cells are selected after the selection of word lines.

  • Patent number: 6496414
Abstract: The input/output nodes of memory cells connected in series are connected to bit lines. Two of the bit lines positioned on the outsides of four successive memory cells constitute each of a plurality of bit line pairs. The bit line pairs are connected to four data lines, respectively, via switches connected to the respective bit lines. A switching control circuit turns on adjacent five of the switches. A switching circuit connects the data lines connected to the input/output nodes by the turning-on of the switches to a supply node of a first voltage, a supply node of a second voltage, and first and second sense amplifiers, respectively. Thereby, data is read from two of the memory cells simultaneously. Thus, it is possible to read data from the two memory cells simultaneously by using the simple switching control circuit without increasing the chip size.

  • Patent number: 6494087
Abstract: A misfire state discrimination system of an internal combustion engine, which determines the occurrence of misfire under engine operating conditions that make misfire determination possible and counts the number of misfires to compare with a reference value. The misfire state of the engine is discriminated based on the result of comparison. In the system, when the engine operation moves from the conditions that makes the misfire determination possible, the count is saved and is counted up from the count when the engine operation returns to the condition. The saved count is also retained when the engine is stopped. Similarly, the number of combustion during which the determination of misfire occurrence is made is counted and the count is saved. This arrangement enables a rapid and accurate discrimination of the misfire state of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6494805
Abstract: An engine is connected to a sun gear of a planetary gear train via a toroidal type continuously variable transmission. Driven wheels of a vehicle are connected to a ring gear of the planetary gear train. The sun gear and the ring gear are connected to each other by a first clutch. A shifter can connect a second clutch connected to the engine either to a carrier of the planetary gear train or the driven wheels. When the vehicle is started when a failure of the electronic central system has occurred, by engaging the first and second clutches with predetermined engagement forces while the second clutch is connected to the carrier by the shifter, change of the ratio of the toroidal type continuously variable transmission beyond either the LOW ratio or the OD ratio is prevented so as to avoid generating an excessive load.

  • Patent number: 6492791
Abstract: A protection method for preventing battery cells from over-discharging and being overcharged, a control circuit, and a battery unit are provided. In the protection method, when a set signal “1” is supplied to a set terminal, a flip-flop outputs “1”. The gate of a discharge control FET then becomes “1”, so that the discharge control FET is OFF regardless of a discharge control signal supplied from a voltage monitor circuit. When a reset signal “1” is supplied to a reset terminal, the flip-flop outputs +0”. The discharge control FET is then switched on and off in accordance with the output of a discharge control circuit of the voltage monitor circuit. In this manner, battery cells connected to an electronic device do not over-discharge, even when they are left unused for a long period of time. Thus, the battery unit can be prevented from deteriorating and shortening the life thereof.
