Patent number: 6378469Abstract: In an engine generating machine, a power-generating unit constructed by integration of the an engine and a generator, is housed in a case including an undercover and a pair of left and right side covers. A pair of reinforcing frames are coupled at their lower ends to the undercover and extend upwards along inner surfaces of the left and right side covers. The reinforcing frames have upper ends coupled to each other and are commonly fastened to a carrying handle. A fuel tank is supported inside the reinforcing frames, and a fuel pump and a fuel cock are mounted on the reinforcing frames. Thus, the maintenance of a fuel supply system for the engine can be facilitated, and the fuel tank can be protected while avoiding an increase in weight.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2000Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Junji Hiranuma, Minoru Tamura

Patent number: 6378296Abstract: A system for discriminating degradation of an exhaust purification system of an internal combustion engine having an adsorbent installed at a bypass exhaust gas passage branched from an exhaust pipe of the engine, which is opened by a switch-over valve at starting of the engine to introduce the exhaust gas such that the adsorbent adsorbs unburned HC in exhaust gas generated by the engine and is closed such that the adsorbent desorbs the adsorbed HC and the desorbed HC is thereafter recirculated at a position upstream of a catalyst. In the system, an inflow amount and outflow amount of HC flowing in and out of the adsorbent are determined based at least on the engine operating conditions and the detected concentration of HC. Then, the ratio therebetween is calculated and compared with a threshold value and if the ratio is less than the threshold value, the adsorbent is discriminated to be degraded, thereby enabling to improve the discrimination accurately.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2000Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yuji Yasui, Yoshihisa Iwaki, Masahiro Satoh

Patent number: 6380709Abstract: In a PWM motor driving device, the amount of electric power supplied to a motor is controlled by controlling the ON/OFF duty factor of output transistors connected between a power source and the motor. This motor driving device has phase detecting means for detecting, among a plurality of phases of the motor, the phase which is currently being driven by the output transistors, and saturation preventing means for performing control according to the voltage of the phase detected by the phase detecting means in such a way that the output transistors are not saturated. Thus, the output transistors are controlled so as not to be saturated according to the voltage of, among the plurality of phases of the motor, the phase in which the motor is currently being driven by the output transistors.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2000Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Rohm Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kazuhiko Nishimura, Kensuke Yasaki

Patent number: 6381508Abstract: A process and equipment for optimizing production includes identifying the breakdown that is actually responsible for a shutdown on a machine production line, and hence of introducing this specific criterion into the process for handling malfunctions, at the level of a man-machine interface. Thus, the true cause of a given breakdown is determined, and it becomes possible to act on this primary cause, and not just on the secondary breakdowns generated downstream; therefore productivity control is improved considerably.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1998Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Inventor: Stéphane Marrie

Patent number: 6378468Abstract: In an engine operated machine, an engine and a generator formed integrally with each other are covered with a shroud and a fan cover to form a power-generating unit. A head cover of the engine is mounted to protrude from an upper surface of the shroud, and the head cover is resiliently supported on a carrying handle of a case with a rubber bushing positioned therebetween. When the carrying handle is lifted, the weight of the power-generating unit is supported directly by the carrying handle without being applied to the case. Therefore, it is unnecessary to specially reinforce the case, thereby enabling a reduction in weight, and also increasing the degree of freedom of the design such as the shape and material of the case. Thus, when the engine operated machine is transported using the carrying handle, the weight of the engine and the working device can be reliably supported.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2000Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Toshifumi Kouchi, Tadafumi Hirose

Patent number: 6376836Abstract: A method of disentangling sample properties in a scanned sample requires a calibration sample in which two sample properties are variable. The calibration sample is scanned, and two measured variables are recorded during the scan. The two sample properties are measured quantitatively by an independent means. Using the data from the calibration sample, conversion functions are mathematically determined, in order to convert the two measured variables into the two sample properties. A sample, for which the two properties are unknown, is scanned, and the two measured variables are recorded. Using the conversion functions, the data from the scan is converted into the two sample properties of interest for the unknown sample. This method can be used with the first sample property being topography, so that effects due to the topography of the sample are eliminated from the computation of the second property of the unknown sample.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1999Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: University of MarylandInventors: Steven Mark Anlage, Bokke Johannes Feenstra, David Ethan Steinhauer

Patent number: 6377014Abstract: In a biped walking robot having a body and two articulated legs each connected to the body and each having a foot at its free end such that the robot is controlled to walk by landing a heel of the foot first on a floor. The heel of the foot has projections and packings charged in gaps. The projections are constituted to have high rigidity against forces acting in the direction of the gravity axis and low rigidity, which is lower than the first rigidity, against forces acting in other directions, when the heel is landed, thereby enabling to achieve an optimum balance between absorption/mitigation of shock at footfall and attitude stabilization after footfall.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2000Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hiroshi Gomi, Kazushi Hamaya

Patent number: 6374818Abstract: An apparatus for accurately and promptly determining a failure of an oxygen concentration sensor. The oxygen concentration sensor is arranged at a location downstream of a catalyst in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. The apparatus measures a time period elapsed after termination of a fuel cut-off operation, and calculates an integrated amount SUMSVS of exhaust gases exhausted after the termination of the fuel cut-off operation. A failure of the oxygen concentration sensor is determined depending on whether or not a signal value SVO2 of a signal from the oxygen concentration sensor has crossed a predetermined threshold value #SVO2CHK. Further, when a predetermined time period #TMFCCKD has elapsed, if the signal value SVO2 has not crossed the predetermined threshold value #SVO2CHK, and at the same time when the integrated amount SUMSVS of the exhaust gases has not reached a predetermined value #SUMSVAFC the failure determination is suspended.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2001Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Akihiro Shinjyo, Hiroshi Kitagawa, Toshihiro Mibe
