  • Patent number: 6260880
Abstract: A vehicle travel safety device carries out automatic braking in order to prevent a subject vehicle from coming into contact with an object, and proximate expansion of an air bag is reliably prevented. When there is a possibility of a subject vehicle coming into contact with an object, automatic braking is carried out in order to prevent the contact. If a seat belt wear state sensor detects that an occupant is not wearing a seat belt and an air bag expansion possibility estimating means estimates that there is a possibility of an air bag expanding, by means of an automatic braking means, the deceleration rate of the automatic braking is reduced so that the occupant is prevented from moving forwards due to the inertia accompanying the braking and causing proximate expansion. When the speed of the subject vehicle at the time when automatic braking is started is high, the relative speed between the subject vehicle and the object at the time when automatic braking is started is high.

  • Patent number: 6259288
Abstract: A semiconductor integrated circuit has a DLL circuit for receiving a first control signal and generating a second control signal synchronized with the first control signal by carrying out a phase synchronization process. The semiconductor integrated circuit has a power supply circuit. The power supply circuit keeps the power supply voltage at a specific voltage level and supplies the power supply voltage only to the DLL circuit. Therefore, the DLL circuit can generate an internal clock which is stable and accurately synchronized with an external clock without including jitter.

  • Patent number: 6257200
Abstract: In introducing fuel to a combustion chamber, the end of air (EOA) is established in the crank angle domain. For example, determination of the average or raw speed is utilize to determined an appropriate crank angle for the closing of the delivery injector (EOA). Once the end of air (EOA) is established in the crank angle domain, the start of air (SOA) may be set in the time domain (by a processor) at a time prior end of air (EOA) by duration equal to the time which the delivery is required to remain open. The required pulse width for the fuel metering injector and the desired fuel-air delay time may then be subtracted from the start of air (SOA) to obtain the start of fuel (SOF) and end of fuel (EOF) in the time domain. Other ways may be utilized to calculate SOA, SOF and EOF. For example, SOA may be estabished in the crank angle domain.

  • Patent number: 6256983
Abstract: A downstream exhaust system controller generates a target value for the output of an upstream O2 sensor disposed between first and second catalytic converters for converging the output of a downstream O2 sensor disposed downstream of the second catalytic converter to a target value while taking into account the dead time of a downstream exhaust system. An upstream exhaust system controller generates a target air-fuel ratio for an internal combustion engine for converging the output of the upstream O2 sensor to a target value while taking into account the dead time of an upstream exhaust system. A fuel processing controller controls the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine at the target air-fuel ratio according to a feedback control process.

Semiconductor overlying layers are constituted by the n-type layer and the p-type layer on the substrate. A light emitting layer is formed together with the n-type and p-type layers in the semiconductor overlying layers to emit light. At least one of the n-type layer and the p-type layer is formed by three or more overlying sublayers including a sublayer of AlyGa1-yN (0<y≦0.5) and a sublayer of AluGa1-uN (0≦u<y). With this structure, the semiconductor light emitting device is almost free from lattice mismatch to thereby enhance electron mobility and hence light emission efficiency even where the overlying semiconductor layers are different in lattice constant from the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6259992
Abstract: A system for controlling safety running of a vehicle, including obstacle detecting means such as a laser radar for detecting an obstacle (e.g., other vehicle) present ahead on a course of travel of the vehicle, and operating means for operating a braking system of the vehicle to avoid contact with the obstacle. In the system, if it is found that the obstacle detected by the obstacle detecting means is lost, the operating means operates the braking system based on at least an estimated possibility of contact or degree of certainty of obstacle. With the arrangement, the system can appropriately cope with a situation in which an obstacle, once detected, is lost during braking operation, without degrading the driving feeling or comfort and without causing the vehicle driver to experience annoyance, while ensuring obstacle avoidance without fail.

  • Patent number: 6257142
Abstract: Several printing units are arranged in a row for printing on as many separate webs traveling in centerline alignment and in phase with one another. At least one preselected web, on issuing from one printing unit, is directed over an angled guide rod thereby to be turned 90 degrees out of phase with the other, unselected webs. Subsequently traveling over a triangular shaped former, the preselected web is folded along a centerline thereof, back into phase with the unselected webs. The preselected web, already formed, and the unselected ones, yet unfolded, are then all superposed one upon another, with the fold of the preselected web in register with the aligned centerline of the unselected webs. The superposed webs are then folded by another former along the aligned centerline of the unselected webs. Subsequently fed into a cutting and folding device, the webs are cut and folded transversely into individual multiple-page signatures each having one center spread in addition to the usual inmost center spread.
