  • Patent number: 5191193
Abstract: To avoid the need for making microprocessor-fitted bank cards which, although they cost little, are in a relatively far too expensive range, money cards with only memory zones are made. They then have four memory zones, one zone pertaining to the identity of the bearer or to that of the card, one zone pertaining to the financial balance, a third zone pertaining to an interaction counter. This interaction counter counts the number of financial operations performed with the card. A fourth zone includes a certificate. This certificate is prepared, in each reader that performs a transaction with the card, with a DES algorithm. The value of this certificate is a function, according to an algorithm common to all the readers, of the identity, the content of the interaction counter and the balance. When a new operation is performed with the card, it is ascertained beforehand that the content of the certificate is the same as the one that can be recomputed by any terminal provided with the same algorithm.

  • Patent number: 5181102
Abstract: A television camera and display device, in which a transmission and reception utilizes quincuncial scanning (HDQ) with sub-sampling associated with an optical filter (9) for reducing the diagonal resolution of the image. The filter (9) prevents the folding of the spectrum when subsampling is employed, and permits the simplification of the device. The device may be implemented in both solid-state and vacuum tube form. It is applicable especially to high-definition television having only a restricted pass band and low sampling frequencies, and to the acquisition of and to the visual display of images in HDQ mode.

  • Patent number: 5172368
Abstract: A device for reading an optical recording medium which includes a source (1) for emitting a first light beam (F1) along a main optical axis (01); a beam splitter (2) to direct, along the main optical axis, the first light beam towards the surface of the recording medium (5), and to split a second beam (F2) obtained by reflection of the first beam on the surface of the recording medium so as to form a third beam (F'3) directed along a secondary optical axis; a focusing lens (4) between the splitter (2) and the surface of the recording medium to focus the first beam on the surface; a mask to introduce a dissymmetry into the third beam; and at least one detection device (7) receiving at least one part of the third beam (F'3) and giving at least one electrical signal expressing the detection made. In this device, the mask is formed by part of an external surface of the light-emitting source (1), and the splitter (2) is positioned and made so that the mask is in the focusing plane of the third beam (F'3).

  • Patent number: 5170174
Abstract: In a waveguide (1) having slots (2, 3) perpendicular to the axis of the waveguide and cut in a narrow wall of the waveguide, a printed circuit plate (4) is positioned. This plate has patches (5, 7) for coupling with the energy being propagated in the waveguide and microstrip lines (6, 8) connected to the patches to excite the slots (2, 3) with the energy thus tapped. These slot waveguides can be used particularly in array antennas.

  • Patent number: 5168485
Abstract: A device for optically reading a recording medium is provided, in which a polarization beam separator includes a transparent plate having a phase network associated with a birefringent material, the refraction index of this material having a first refraction index for the polarization of an incident beam and a second refraction index for the polarization of a reflected beam. Thus, in accordance with the embodiment, the detection devices are placed substantially along the emission axis of the optical source.

  • Patent number: 5166575
Abstract: To increase the frequency without restricting the power and vice versa, of vacuum tubes such as triodes and tetrodes for high-frequency amplification, especially for radio and television broadcasting designers are often limited by the relatively high output capacitance between the anode and the grid of the tube. To reduce this capacitance, especially when the tube is in a circuit for extracting energy from coupled cavities, the cavity coupling is integrated into the tube itself.

  • Patent number: 5163077
Abstract: In order to count chip cards when they are manufactured, it is chosen to present these chip cards in lots, edgewise, in the field of an X-radiation. A measurement is made of the differential image of attenuation of the X-radiation due to the passage of this X-radiation, on the one hand through the plastic card structure, which is relatively transparent to the X-radiation, and on the other hand through the metallic connection parts of the chips. In the radiological absorption image obtained, a count is made of the number of transitions of the absorption signal. It is shown that the reliability of the counting is greatly improved, as is the security of manipulation.

  • Patent number: 5160803
Abstract: The invention concerns the domain of a charges which can be released, for example, from an aircraft to which they are fixed, and in particular a munition containing an incendiary gel made of hydrocarbons and gelatinizing agents, intended to have an incendiary effect on various targets on the ground. The invention enables the munition to be broken up above the ground thanks to means of distribution constituted of a detonating cord, gas-generating grains, a shield and a rod. These means of distribution ensure regular scattering of the incendiary gel before the impact on the ground. The invention also enables ignition of the incendiary gel on break-up of the munition thanks to means of ignition composed of ignition capsules.Application to munitions containing an incendiary gel, also to munitions containing a product to be scattered.

  • Patent number: 5159556
Abstract: A land navigation system, e.g. for a vehicle, which compensates for deviations and drifts of the system sensors. The system has movement sensors, the signals of which are digitalized to make periodic computations of the estimated position of the vehicle. A memory stores the estimated route. A digital cartographic data base is read to extract and memorize the useful zone of the route to be displayed and the coordinates of a readjustment point. A central processing unit for management and computation is programmed to compute deviation measurement between the estimated position and the real position of the vehicle at each readjustment point, and to give compensation parameters that are memorized and used during the next readjustment operation, and so on.

  • Patent number: 5147982
Abstract: The disclosure concerns the encapsulation of integrated circuit chips, notably with a view to their being incorporated in a chip card. The encapsulation method comprises the formation of a pre-punched metallic conductive grid, the formation of a strip of pre-perforated plastic material, the transfer of a strip to the grid, the positioning of an integrated circuit chip in a perforation of the strip, and the formation of electrical connections between the chip and zones of the grid located in perforations of the strip. The perforations of the strip and the punched slots of the grid are arranged so that the strip covers and blocks all the interstices between conductors of the grid in the useful region corresponding to a module to be made. When a protecting resin is laid, it is confined and does not leak through the interstices of the grid. A plastic or metal ring defines the heightwise dimension of the micromodule.
