Patent number: 4860187Abstract: An apparatus for producing a very high DC potential output from an AC input. Multiple secondary circuits, each comprised of an individual coil wound about a separate magnetic core, are positioned within the magnetic field of a single primary coil. The output of each secondary circuit is rectified. The output of all secondary circuits is combined in series to provide the high DC potential. The seconary cores are supplied in parallel from the magnetic flux of the primary coil. The primary core and coil form an essentially cylindrical shell, with the secondary cores and coils located within the cylinder interior.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1988Date of Patent: August 22, 1989Assignee: Radiation Dynamics, Inc.Inventor: Chester C. Patent number: 4859118Abstract: A mine roof support anchor and process for installing the same. The anchor comprises a pair of wedge members, each of which has tapered surfaces adapted for interengagement to effect expansion of the shell into gripping engagement with the mine roof. The wedge members are joined by a connector at one end thereof. Upon threading the roof bolt through one wedge member, the upper end of the bolt engages the connector, thereby effecting upper movement of the other wedge member and downward movement of the one wedge member, causing rapid expansion of the shell. External ribs on one of the wedge members engage the mine roof after partial expansion of the shell to limit upward movement of the wedge member. A vertical rib on the wedge member through which the roof bolt is threaded prevents rotation thereof during the rotation of the bolt through the anchor.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1988Date of Patent: August 22, 1989Assignee: Birmingham Bolt Company, Inc.Inventor: Charles W. Patent number: 4854207Abstract: Disclosed is a power driven circular saw blade and a guide assembly for such blade where the guide assembly includes a pair of guide units mounted respectively one of each of opposite side of the blade. Each guide unit includes a guide housing with a guide block reciprocally mounted therein and having a saw blade engaging portion. A stop limits movement of the guide block at least in a direction of movement toward the blade so that the guide block is normally in non-engagement with the saw blade while the latter is in a smooth substantially vibration free running condition. The guide block is resiliently biasing against such stop preferably by pneumatic pressure. A guide assembly as described is preferably located at the outfeed side of the blade but there may be an assembly at both the infeed and outfeed sides of the blade. The position of the stop if preferably adjustable.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1988Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Forintek Canada Corp.Inventors: Eberhard Kirbach, David A. Sykes

Patent number: 4854115Abstract: An apparatus that can be readily converted from a lawnmower to a trimmer including a housing, an engine mounted thereon, a plurality of wheels rotatably mounted to the housing, a handle secured to the housing and a control linkage system. The housing includes a main body portion and an adjustable segment. The adjustable segment is pivotally connected to the main body of the housing. The adjustable segment is further spring biased in a first position wherein the apparatus is in the traditional lawnmower mode. The control linkage system is operably associated with the adjustable segment so that upon depression of a control lever the adjustable segment pivots upwardly and exposes a portion of the blade. The exposed portion of the blade extends several inches outwardly from the outermost portion of the apparatus. Therefore, the apparatus is able to effectively trim grass from around obstacles such as trees, fences, and posts.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1988Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Trim-A-Lawn CorporationInventors: Dallas W. Patent number: 4852682Abstract: An underwater communicator comprising a transmitter for transmitting acoustical energy between mediums having differing impedance. The transmitter includes first and second ends. The first end is exposed to a first medium while the second end is exposed to a second medium. In the preferred embodiment, the transmitter is formed from a material having a substantially identical impedance to the second medium. An acoustical lens is positioned adjacent the first end of the transmitter. The acoustical lens has a substantially planar front face and a substantially concave shaped rear face. The acoustical lens includes a plurality of spaced vertically extending plates. The vertically extending plates form a substantially right angle with the front face of the acoustical lens. A plurality of spaced plates intersect the vertically extending plates and form an acute angle with the front face of the acoustical lens, thereby forming a plurality of inclined passageways.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1987Date of Patent: August 1, 1989Inventor: Charles M. Patent number: 4850323Abstract: A system is described for measuring the angular position of an internal combustion engine crankshaft, comprising a magnetic sensor and at least two projections provided on a flywheel which is rigid with the crankshaft. The main characteristic of the present invention is that the sensor has its longitudinal axis parallel to the axis of the crankshaft and is supported by that portion of the crankcase which faces the flywheel. As the projections pass in proximity to the sensor, this latter generates an electrical pulse which is utilized in a central control unit for electronic ignition and/or electronic injection.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1987Date of Patent: July 25, 1989Assignee: Fiat Auto S.p.A.Inventor: Eppo Ricordi
