  • Patent number: 4893119
Abstract: A method of operating a vehicle barricade comprising the steps of providing an hydraulic system comprising an electrically operated motor and a passive accumulator, the hydraulic system is operably connected to a barrier for causing the barrier to be displaced between a first lowered position and a second raised position. The presence of obstructions disposed below the barrier is monitored and the barrier is prevented from being displaced to the first position upon the detection of an obstruction. An electromechanical valve is electrically operated for causing the motor to displace the barrier between the positions. The valve is electrically operated causing the accumulator to displace the barrier between the positions when the motor is not operating. The barrier is displaced to the second position upon the occurrence of a defined emergency condition.

  • Patent number: 4891521
Abstract: A detector for counting low levels of photons comprises a plurality of thin solid state wafers of a photons sensitive material such as gallium arsenide; the wafers being of the order of one-tenth to two millimeter thick depending upon use, and providing a depletion layer of 2 to 20 millimeters deep depending upon the energy of the photons to be detected. The electrical length of the wafer depends upon the use for which the panel is designed and may be one-tenth to two millimeters if two dimensional analysis is desired. Some of the wafers depending upon their materials have a region beyond the 2 to 20 millimeter depth in which is formed an integrated circuit including a detector, preamplifier, discriminator, scaler and read out buffer, each responsive to a different multiplexed, digitized address word. The wafers are connected as PIN diodes and are properly biased for such function. Those wafers using materials on which IC cannot be formed are connected to ICs by leads.

  • Patent number: 4890984
Abstract: A modular infusion pump system utilizes a positive displacement pump for pumping a known quantity of fluid for each stroke. A plurality of longitudinally spaced apart fixed combs cooperate with a resilient tube to define a known pumping volume. A plurality of movable combs are interdigitated with the fixed combs and are periodically linearly directed to cause the pump volume to be compressed, and therefore the fluid expelled. A rotary to linear drive system is connected with the movable combs and a ratchet system prevents counterrotation when the motor is in the off position. Valves are disposed above and below the pumping unit to appropriately seal off the pumping volume. The valves and the movable combs are operated by means of cams carried by a common shaft.

  • Patent number: 4890469
Abstract: A bending machine comprises a support to which first and second spaced cooperating bending devices are displaceably mounted. Each of the bending devices have first and second spaced cooperating bending components and the components of the first and second bending devices define a first axis extending between the bending devices and further define second and third axes extending generally transverse to the first axis and about which a length to be bent may pivot and each of the second and third axes are disposed between the components of one of the bending devices. A drive mechanism is operably associated with at least one of the components of each of the bending devices for causing displacement thereof. A guide system is operably associated with the support and with each of the bending devices so that displacement of the bending components by the drive system causes the bending components to move relative to the first axis and to engage the length to be bent extending between the devices.

  • Patent number: 4890760
Abstract: A trash receptacle including a valve mounted in the bottom thereof for breaking a suction which is created when the trash liner positioned within the receptacle is lifted for the purposes of trash removal. The valve is mounted in the central, raised bottom portion of the container. The central portion forms a recess portion and is surrounded by a periperal portion having radially extending passages. The valve includes a flexible diaphragm the peripheral portion of which remains in sealing engagement with the inside surface of the container and covers the air holes extending from the outside surface to the inside surface of the container. When the liner is lifted, the diaphragm flexes upwardly due to the suction pressure and allows air to flow inwardly to break the suction.
