  • Patent number: 4876737
Abstract: A satellite signal identification system utilizes distinguishable unique coded identifiers impressed on a carrier sent from a transmitting ground station to be identified. The identifier is recieved and identified by the receiving station to specifically identify a particular underlying carrier signal for reception. The invention utilizes a data modem for transmitting to an earth relay satellite coded identification signals together with various data and error correcting information. An IF carrier signal may be combined with video and/or audio signals, such combined signals being relayed via satellite to the ground station. The MPU of a modem in the ground station finds its counterpart in the MPU of the downconverter that receives via a block downconverter the data, housekeeping and ID signals after the video has been removed. The downconverter first translates the satellite transponder frequency to an IF frequency and sequentially searches for a carrier and the PSK code.

  • Patent number: 4873484
Abstract: A probe for sensing radio frequency power, utilizing two independently-driven radio frequency-sensitive diodes. The two diodes are driven through a common RF input, through a branch network which separates and feeds the probe RF power to each diode independently. The diodes are unequally padded from the RF input, to provide an extended sensitivity range for the probe. One diode, therefore, operates in a lower dBm range, while the other diode operates in a higher dBm range. Two separate outputs are provided from the probe to supply a common power meter which monitors the appropriate output for the present power level of the radio frequency input.

  • Patent number: 4869243
Abstract: A crimper and method for drawing together two bone fragment. The crimper includes a support member having an adjustable fulcrum and a clamping device for holding a staple or an elongated member. A forming die member operable in a recess of the support member engages with a portion of the staple or elongated member which extends in the recess. The forming die member includes a fulcrum point which is movable on the adjustable fulcrum. The forming die member is movably secured to the support member and includes a lever arm on one side of the fulcrum point and a forming die on the other side of the fulcrum point. The lever arm includes a device for moving the forming die member about the fulcrum point. During use, when the forming die member is operated, the forming die applies a pressure on the staple or elongated member to form a crimp in a portion thereof which extends through the recess.

  • Patent number: 4869394
Abstract: Multiple small-article receiving cassettes are provided for removably mounting on the upper surface of an inclined support. A drum housed within each cassette is rotated by connection with the drive shaft of a motor projecting through the support. The disk-like bottom of the rotatable interior drum of the cassette is undercut to form a circumferential series of radial and angularly spaced article receiving slots with the innermost end of the slots in overlying relation with respect to an outlet opening formed in the bottom stationary plate of the cassette. A second outlet opening, located in the upper surface of the support, is aligned with the opening in the bottom of the cassette. Upon proper rotation of the drum, articles placed within the cassette will travel along the receiving slots to their innermost end and then drop through the two outlet openings and into a dispensing chute. A single electrical control and single motor is used with numerous different cassettes for dispensing different drugs.

  • Patent number: 4865860
Abstract: A machine is disclosed which is capable of cutting solid pieces of potato from potato halves. A potato half 42 is supported in the cup 28 of a potato holder 18 beneath a plate 60. The plate 60 slides across the flat surface of the potato half to restrain it from movement, and while this happens a curved blade 88 moves into the potato half through a slot 64 in the plate 60 to cut out a solid piece 116 from the potato half 42. The depth to which the blade 88 penetrates the potato as it sweeps through it is controlled by a cam 100.
