  • Patent number: 4923148
Abstract: Apparatus for stowing and deploying stores from air and marine craft (FIG. 2) in which the stores 28 are stowed on a modular stowage structure, such as pallets 32, with releasable locking devices 10 securing the pallets to the craft. Further releasable locking devices 29 and restraining means 30 are arranged to secure the stores to cradles 14 on respective associated pallets. The pallets and cradles are adapted to permit, upon release of the respective further releasable locking devices 29, movement by the effect of gravity of the stores to effect deployment of the stores. The stowage structure may be mounted on a ramp on the deck of the craft or the pitch of the vessel may be adjusted to effect deployment. The structure may be releasably slung beneath a sub-surface craft and provided with a fiberglass casing to make it floatable.

  • Patent number: 4923333
Abstract: A lysimeter comprises a longitudinally extending circumferentially perforated duct having a vacuum application connection at one end thereof. A fluid permeable fabric is superposed over the duct perforations. A longitudinally extending circumferentially perforated shell extends about the duct and therewith defines a bounded volume therebetween. A granular filler substantially fills the bounded volume and the filler is sized so not to be drawn through the fluid permeable fabric so that a vacuum applied to the duct is transmitted through the shell.A ground protection system for a heap leaching site incorporating the lysimeter of the present invention is also disclosed as well as a method of assembling the lysimeter.

  • Patent number: 4921679
Abstract: In order to render harmless the aerosol laden smoke stream which results from the operation of medical lasers in or on mammalian bodies, the stream is moved in a closed circuit maintained at negative pressure. The circuit includes a container of sterilizing fluid to retain and destroy the larger aerosol particles and downstream of that container a chamber having an oxygen enriched atmosphere which is heated to a temperature sufficient to incinerate the remaining aerosol particles which are too small to filter. The thus purified stream is then cooled and released to ambient.

  • Patent number: 4917912
Abstract: A method of making a low fat food item having the taste and flavor of a fried food product is disclosed. The food item is first wetted and then coated with a breading mixture. After spraying the food item with a mist of water until the breading composition appears sticky, the product is ready for cooking. The food item is then placed in a cooking tray and hot gas jets are directed against to coated surface of the food item at a temperature of 375.degree.-475.degree. F. for a time of 11-25 minutes. After cooking the food item is sprayed with a mist of water to turn the item uniformly brown. Food which has been cooked by this method can then be vacuum packed and retains its flavor for an extended period of time.

  • Patent number: 4917672
Abstract: A shield for the injection needle of an hypodermic syringe, comprises a movable shield sleeve having a channel extending therethrough from the top to the bottom and having upper and lower portions for normally positioning the sharpened end of the injection needle in the upper portion. The sleeve includes a plunger having an opening alignable with the channel. The plunger is movable between a normal blocking position in which the plunger opening is misaligned with respect to the channel, and an aligned position in which the plunger opening is aligned with respect to the channel, to permit the needle to move through the plunger opening, thereby permitting the needle to be exposed a substantial distance below the bottom of the sleeve for purposes of injection. Automatic means associated with the syringe and the sleeve permit the needle to be automatically retracted into the sleeve upper portion, after the needle has been exposed a substantial distance below the bottom of the sleeve for injection.
