  • Patent number: 8123030
Abstract: An aroma-tight or moisture-tight pack for cigarettes (10) having an inner pack (12), produced from cardboard or a comparable packaging material, made tight as a result of corresponding treatment, and an outer pack (13) in the form of a hinge-lid box, however without a collar. A cigarette group (11) is positioned directly, that is without an inner envelope, in the inner pack (12). The inner pack is provided in an upper region, namely in the region of a cover (15) of the outer pack (13), with a particular opening aid. A closure tab (39) of the inner pack (12) is covered over its entire surface area by an actuating tab (42) which is realized as tape and is produced from a separate blank.

  • Patent number: 8123476
Abstract: A method of operating installations (10), in particular wind energy installations (10), having a component (22) which endangers flying animals, in which the component assumes a first state which endangers animals to a greater extent and a second state which endangers animals to a lesser extent. The physical environment around the installation (10), in particular the environment around the component (22), is monitored at least in regions by a suitable detection device. The detection device produces a signal when an animal of a specific type, in particular a bat, a bird or the like, enters the monitored region, and in which case the component of the installation is moved from the state which endangers animals to a greater extent to the state which endangers animals to a lesser extent depending on the signal.

  • Patent number: 8112778
Abstract: The playback of video content delivered over a wireless network can be controlled by the provision of various control functions that can be actuated by the user. The controlled playback can be implemented on a system level, in which the delivery of the video content is controlled in response to receiving control actuation signals from a receiver device or can be implemented at the receiver device level by storing the video content and controlling the rendering of the content based on user actuations. In either implementation, the playback control can include pausing, stopping, fast-forwarding, rewinding, reversing, fast-reversing and skipping of the video content.

  • Patent number: 8107419
Abstract: Bandwidth utilization over bearers in a fixed cellular network is improved by reducing the amount of data required to be transported. At each side of the bearer, data blocks (such as Iub blocks) are received and, prior to transmitting them across the bearer, they are analyzed to determine if they can be modified in such a manner to decrease the amount of data. On the other end of the bearer, received blocks are analyzed to determine if they have been modified, and if so, the blocks are reconstructed to a format that may not be identical to the original format but, that is operationally equivalent from a user perspective. The modifications to the blocks can be based on the type of data being transmitted. For instance, if the data is for a video session or and audio session, the modifications can be different. Information regarding the reconstruction of the blocks can be sent to the other end of the bearer as a part of the data or through other channels.

  • Patent number: 8107614
Abstract: Methods and systems for enhanced Colorful Ring-Back Tone (eCRBT) services by mixing multiple digital content streams in real time are provided, including audio, video, data, text-based message, and hypermedia object streams. One or more properties of the content streams, such as volume or pitch of an audio stream, or brightness and layout of a video stream, are gradually altered such that a prominence of the an individual content stream is dynamically and seamlessly changed relative to other content streams with time. An eCRBT controller controls mixing and playing of digital content either based on an internal algorithm in an application server, or selections received from subscribers through provisioning interfaces. Personalized content streams can be mixed and played in real time based on interactive response received from a calling subscriber. Content may also be personalized based on caller by service provider.

  • Patent number: 8100608
Abstract: A retaining wall, in particular a retaining wall (24) inclined against a soil backfill, composed of individual shaped blocks (20, 21, 22, 23), the shaped blocks (20, 21, 22, 23) being arranged one above the other in layers (30) and the shaped blocks (20, 21, 22, 23) of adjacent layers (30) each engaging in a form-fitting manner with one another in the region of upper sides (25) and lower sides (26) of the shaped blocks (20, 21, 22, 23). Provision is made according to the invention for upper sides (25) and lower sides (26) of the shaped blocks (20, 21, 22, 23) to be designed and/or oriented in such a way that when lateral pressure is exerted transversely to an imaginary longitudinal axis of the retaining wall (24), individual layers (30) can be displaced in the corresponding direction.

  • Patent number: 8096960
Abstract: A device that monitors a user's sleep cycles and operates to sound an alarm to awaken the user at an optimal point within a sleep cycle. Once an alarm time is set and the alarm is activated, the device begins to monitor a wearer's sleep cycles by identifying the points in time at which the wearer moves his or her body limbs. As the alarm time is approached, the device can trigger the alarm earlier if the wearer is at an optimal point in the sleep cycle or, even retard the triggering of the alarm if the optimal point in the sleep cycle is expected to occur shortly. The device can be used to assist children in waking up to prevent bed wetting, or in a patient for obtaining light therapy.

  • Patent number: 8094607
Abstract: Multi-channel network communication is improved by reducing the amount of data that is transmitted over connections that can stem from a similar source. Content of data packets transmitted from the source are reduced and the result is compared to previously transmitted data packets. If identical packets are found, then only an identification of the packet is transmitted. At the receiving side, the identification is used to identify a previously received data packet and use that as though it was the recently received packet. If a similar packet is identified, then the identification of the similar packet, along with change information is transmitted to the receiving side.

  • Patent number: 8090768
Abstract: A device for obtaining media content from a source and storing the media content for subsequent playback. A response mechanism enables a listener to generate response information associated with particular media content that is being rendered by the device. This response information can be delivered to a third party system for triggering the performance of specific actions related to the media content. A content system interfaces to the device and to the Internet. The content system obtains media content from one or more sources via the Internet and delivers the content to the device.
