    Abstract: A longitudinally and angularly adjustable vehicle steering column has two telescopically coupled steering column parts. One part is secured to a vehicle frame for swinging motion about a horizontal axis while the other part carries the steering wheel. The steering column is supported by a two-part strut. One strut part is in engagement with the steering column and the other strut part is secured to the vehicle frame for swinging motion about a horizontal axis. The strut parts are bar-like components articulated to one another. One of the strut parts extends parallel to the steering column axis. A locking bar mounted on only one of the two said steering column parts extends substantially parallel to the column axis and projects into a clamping sleeve mounted on the other of the two steering column parts. The clamping sleeve also receives one of the strut parts. A tightening mechanism cooperates with the clamping sleeve for simultaneously immobilizing the locking bar and the strut part in the clamping sleeve.

    Abstract: A harvesting device for separating round root crops, such as potatoes, from soil and other unwanted material. The crop and the soil in which it is growing is uplifted into the harvesting device by the forward movement of the device. The uplifted material is delivered into two conveyors, one positioned above the other and one running at a different speed from the other. The upper conveyor has a series of transverse members, such as fingers and flaps, which break up the uplifted material into discrete portions and these transverse members form with the lower conveyor a series of pockets so that each discrete portion of uplifted material lies in a pocket. The conveyors are inclined and this combined with the differential speed causes the material to be tumbled and the round root crops to roll free of unwanted material.

    Abstract: A core torch for fabricating a single-mode optical fiber preform wherein fine glass particles are produced eccentrically with respect to the center area of a flame stream, the core torch being so arranged as to blow the flame stream at an angle inclined to a seed rod. A cladding layer is formed on the periphery of the porous glass core body by at least one torch for forming the cladding. The obtained porous glass body is heated and vitrified into a transparent glass body, which is sealed in a silica tube for jacketting to form a single-mode optical fiber preform. At least one exhaust port is disposed within a distance of 1 mm to 50 mm from the periphery of the porous glass body and in the vicinity of the growing surface of the glass body to exhaust residual glass fine particles and undesired gases. A porous glass body having a diameter of 20 mm or less is easily formed.
