Patent number: 4407465Abstract: In a method for guiding a missile by illuminating the target by means of a laser and tracking the target with a sensor system carried by the missile, the step of illuminating is carried out to illuminate the target by means of the laser for a short period of time, and the step of tracking is carried out with the aid of an electronic optical sensor by causing the sensor to sense the laser light reflected from the target and then locking the sensor onto the target region from which such reflection took place.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1980Date of Patent: October 4, 1983Assignee: Licentia Patent-Verwaltungs-GmbHInventor: Klaus Meyerhoff

Patent number: 4407370Abstract: A harvesting device for separating round root crops, such as potatoes, from soil and other unwanted material. The crop and the soil in which it is growing is uplifted into the harvesting device by the forward movement of the device. The uplifted material is delivered into two conveyors, one positioned above the other and one running at a different speed from the other. The upper conveyor has a series of transverse members, such as fingers and flaps, which break up the uplifted material into discrete portions and these transverse members form with the lower conveyor a series of pockets so that each discrete portion of uplifted material lies in a pocket. The conveyors are inclined and this combined with the differential speed causes the material to be tumbled and the round root crops to roll free of unwanted material.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1981Date of Patent: October 4, 1983Assignee: Tonparo LimitedInventors: Peter S. Patent number: 4407166Abstract: A longitudinally and angularly adjustable vehicle steering column has two telescopically coupled steering column parts. One part is secured to a vehicle frame for swinging motion about a horizontal axis while the other part carries the steering wheel. The steering column is supported by a two-part strut. One strut part is in engagement with the steering column and the other strut part is secured to the vehicle frame for swinging motion about a horizontal axis. The strut parts are bar-like components articulated to one another. One of the strut parts extends parallel to the steering column axis. A locking bar mounted on only one of the two said steering column parts extends substantially parallel to the column axis and projects into a clamping sleeve mounted on the other of the two steering column parts. The clamping sleeve also receives one of the strut parts. A tightening mechanism cooperates with the clamping sleeve for simultaneously immobilizing the locking bar and the strut part in the clamping sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1981Date of Patent: October 4, 1983Assignee: Volkswagenwerk AGInventors: Dieter Protze, Udo Voigt

Patent number: 4406945Abstract: A heating apparatus for microwave ovens, electric ovens, gas ovens and ovens of the hybrid type, includes a digital control unit and a numerical display unit. The heating apparatus further includes numerical value input means (an impulse generator) including a digit change-over switch and increment/decrement switch as means for entering a numerical value such as a heating time or a heating temperature into the digital control unit. The digit change-over switch always directs one of the hours, minutes and seconds, and the increment/decrement switch is designed so that the switch which is usually held off is closed only when the knob is moved or when the knob is depressed, for example, and the switch is returned to the original off position upon releasing the hand, thus reducing the number of setting keys, lessening the possibility of erroneous setting and simplifying the setting of heating time and heating temperature.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1981Date of Patent: September 27, 1983Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Patent number: 4406293Abstract: The rod-breaking device comprises a deflecting guide movable alternately across the normal straight path of a cigarette rod issuing from a rod-forming mechanism and entering the inlet of a rod-processing unit. The movement of the deflecting guide into active position serves to break the rod by cooperating with a fixed abutment, whereafter the deflecting guide stops in said active position to deflect the following rod out of the normal path. The movement of the deflecting guide into the opposite inactive position serves to break the rod and to bring the said deflecting guide to an inactive position out of the normal path of the rod. A transverse blade is secured on the deflecting guide in such a manner as to move, across the normal path of the cigarette rod, close to the inlet of the processing unit.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1981Date of Patent: September 27, 1983Assignee: Sasib S.p.A.Inventor: Paolo Maldina

Patent number: 4406156Abstract: For the electropneumatic inspection of the longitudinal and/or transversal permeability of the ventilated cigarettes, each cigarette is subjected in any order of succession to at least three of the four inspections consisting in applying a pneumatic pressure alternatively to each of the two cigarette ends, while keeping the opposite end open and subsequently closed. Each of these inspections determines the pneumatic resistance met at the respective cigarette inlet and the values of these resistances are converted into electric signals and used for determining the longitudinal and/or transversal permeability of the cigarette. For this purpose use is made of four-terminal network theory, by considering that the cigarette pneumatic resistance can be regarded as composed of an equivalent transversal resistance, derived from two equivalent longitudinal resistances in series with each other.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1981Date of Patent: September 27, 1983Assignee: CIR S.p.A. Patent number: 4406852Abstract: A method for forming a connecting sleeve having an internal groove at the end section of a tube made of crystalline or partially crystalline thermoplastic material in which the end section is heated to the deformation temperature and then is axially upset in a heatable device which defines an annular gap until the annular gap is filled. This increases the wall thickness of said end section, which is then shaped to form the connecting sleeve during axial displacement in a mold. The end section is heated to a processing temperature within the range of the deformation temperature and up to the crystalline melting temperature. In the initial step in the heatable device the application of the first axial upsetting force is such that the upsetting begins at the front end of the end section and continues until the annular gap in the heatable device is filled.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1981Date of Patent: September 27, 1983Assignee: Rehau Plastiks AG & Co.Inventor: Karl-Heinz Riegel
