  • Patent number: 8306974
Abstract: Ranking database query results using an efficient method for N-ary summation is provided. Such operation, referred to herein as “mid-fold N-ary summation” significantly reduces costs of computation for large numbers of queries, as are common in enterprise database applications. Thus, ranking query results using mid-fold N-ary summation offers improved runtime performance and reduced latency relative to using conventional N-ary summation.

  • Patent number: 8306142
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for transmitter beamforming for reduced complexity multiple input multiple output (MIMO) transceivers are presented. Aspects of the system may include a MIMO transmitter that computes a channel estimate matrix and decomposes the computed channel estimate matrix based on singular value decomposition (SVD). Singular values in a singular value matrix may be rearranged and grouped to generate a plurality of submatrices. In one aspect, each of the submatrices may be decomposed based on GMD at a MIMO transmitter, while a MIMO receiver may utilize a vertical layered space time (VLST) method. In another aspect, the MIMO transmitter may utilize Givens rotation matrices corresponding to each of the submatrices, while the MIMO receiver may utilize maximum likelihood (ML) detection.

  • Patent number: 8307300
Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for content resizing and caching in multi-process browser architecture. An embodiment includes initiating a rendering engine process and a browser process, receiving a request to resize content, providing the request to the rendering engine process, waiting to allow the rendering engine process to render an updated bitmap associated with the content and displaying the updated bitmap synchronously if the updated bitmap is produced during the waiting step. Another embodiment includes, receiving an input associated with the status of a tab, determining if the tab is a background tab or a foreground tab based on the receiving step, checking a cache for a bitmap of content associated with the tab if the tab has changed status to a foreground tab; and displaying the contents of the cache in the tab if the cache includes the bitmap of content previously associated with the tab.

  • Patent number: 8300787
Abstract: A system for selectively blocking and unblocking the sending of outgoing caller ID information from a communication device comprises a communication device, a processor coupled to the communication device and a storage medium coupled to the processor containing a directory of information entries. The information entries include both telephone numbers and associated security levels. When a call is placed to a number using the communication device, the processor seeks the number in the directory of the storage medium. If an entry is found for the number by the processor, caller ID information is prevented from being sent to the number unless a security level associated with the number is at or above a predefined cut-off level.

  • Patent number: 8300493
Abstract: Decoder circuits capable of decoding encoded ROM memory are provided. Embodiments provide several improvements over prior solutions which rely primarily on CMOS logic (e.g., inverters). For example, embodiments provide faster decoding by limiting the number of decoding stages to a single stage. Further, embodiments allow the use of partial swing (as opposed to full swing) on the bit lines, which results in significant power reduction. This, in turn, results in reduced amounts of capacitor discharges when reading the data.

  • Patent number: 8301967
Abstract: A method of transmitting data in a cable modem system includes the steps of encoding the data using forward error correction. The data is then encoded with Turbo encoding. The data is then sent to a modulation scheme. The data is then transmitted over a cable channel. The data is then demodulated. The data is then decoded using a Turbo decoder. An inverse of the forward error correction is then applied to the data.

  • Patent number: 8301589
Abstract: System and method for assignment of unique identifiers in a distributed environment. In a distributed system having a plurality of nodes, a method for allocating identifiers comprises steps of: allocating a pool of identifiers for use; maintaining lists of free identifiers in the pool at participating nodes; obtaining at a first node permission to update the lists of free identifiers; upon receiving permission to update the lists, allocating for the first node a set of identifiers from the lists; updating the lists of free identifiers to reflect allocation of the set of identifiers for the first node; sending the updated lists from the first node to other participating nodes; upon receiving the updated lists of free identifiers at each other participating node, updating each other participating node's respective copy of the lists of free identifiers; and relinquishing the first node's permission to update the lists of free identifiers.
