  • Patent number: 8301101
Abstract: Embodiments of a frequency translated filter (FTF) are presented. An FTF includes a passive mixer and a baseband impedance. The baseband impedance includes a network of one or more passive components (e.g., resistors, inductors, and capacitors) that form a low-Q filter. The passive mixer is configured to translate the baseband impedance to a higher frequency. The translated baseband impedance forms a high-Q filter and is presented at the input of the FTF. The FTF can be fully integrated in CMOS IC technology (or others, e.g., Bipolar, BiCMOS, and SiGe) and applied in wireless receiver systems including GSM, Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA), Bluetooth, and wireless LANs (e.g., IEEE 802.11).

  • Patent number: 8300723
Abstract: A method and system for channel quantization for multiuser diversity are provided. A quantizer may utilize quantization levels determined based on an objective function J that corresponds to a performance metric for a finite-rate feedback multiuser downlink communication system. The quantization levels may be obtained based on the results of maximizing the objective function J by means of an optimization algorithm. The optimization algorithm may be a multivariate optimization algorithm that may be implemented utilizing an iterative approach. The quantizer may utilize the quantization levels to quantize channel state information (CSI) to achieve multiuser diversity in the finite-rate feedback multiuser system. The performance metric may be based on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), bit error rate (BER), and/or system capacity. The quantization levels may be utilized in a multiuser system where distributed quantization is needed for optimal selection.

  • Patent number: 8301918
Abstract: A Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) communication system dynamically provides power and data communications over a communications link. In an enterprise environment made up of one or more personal computing devices (e.g., personal or laptop computers), a switch determines an allocated amount of power to be supplied to each device. The system includes a switch, a power supply, and one or more personal computing devices having a PoE control module. The PoE control module can be part of, for example, a Power Source Equipment/Powered Device (PSE/PD) system or a LAN-On-Motherboard/Powered Device (LOM/PD) system. A method of dynamically providing power to personal computing devices includes determining the power requirements of each device based on one or more factors, which can include, for example, battery charge status, power load, power mode, etc., of each device. Various algorithms can be used to decide priority in providing power to the devices.

  • Patent number: 8300226
Abstract: There is disclosed a method and system for detecting a surface plasmon resonance associated with a fluid sample. The method includes the step of providing a piezoelectric substrate having at least two electrodes thereon, wherein at least one of said electrodes is coupled to a fluid sample. A light beam is transmitted toward the fluid sample to induce a oscillation frequency in the piezoelectric substrate. The oscillation frequency from said electrodes is then measured during transmittance of the light to detect the surface plasmon resonance associated with the fluid sample.

  • Patent number: 8295362
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for redundancy-based decoding of video content are provided. A bit sequence comprising video content may be decoded in a multilayer process based on a decoding algorithm and at least one physical constraint. The decoding algorithm may be based on the Viterbi algorithm. Whether the bit sequence comprises video content may be determined based on information provided by a portion of a packet header or by packet priority information necessary for enabling quality of service applications. The physical constraint may be based on border, DC component, and/or low frequency continuity between neighboring discrete cosine transform (DCT) blocks. The physical constraint may also be based on the consistency of video data coded by a variable length coding (VLC) operation. At least one physical constraint test may be performed on selected estimated video bit sequences to select a decoded output video bit sequence.

  • Patent number: 8294612
Abstract: A global navigation satellite system (GNSS) enabled mobile device may be operable to assert one of autoblank signals when RF interference is detected in received GNSS signals for one of consecutive first time windows. The asserted autoblank signals are monitored by the GNSS enabled mobile device over time intervals corresponding to consecutive second time windows and a rate at which the autoblank signals are asserted for each of the consecutive second time windows is determined by the GNSS enabled mobile device based on the monitoring. The GNSS enabled mobile device may be operable to determine whether to blank processing of the received GNSS signals based on the determined rate. The autoblank signals may be asserted by the GNSS enabled mobile device based on a number of the received GNSS signals whose absolute signal levels exceed a signal level threshold for the first time window.
