  • Patent number: 8295775
Abstract: A method and apparatus of determining a hand-off metric is disclosed. One method includes a subscriber receiving identifications of a neighboring set of base stations from a serving base station. From the neighboring set, the subscriber determines an active set of base stations. The active set is determined by the subscriber measuring received signal power from each of the base stations of the neighboring set at first discrete points in time, averaging the received signal power for each of the base stations of the neighboring set, and selecting the active set based on the average received signal power of the base stations of the neighboring set. Determining the at least one hand-off metric further includes the subscriber measuring at second discrete points in time an excess received signal power for each base station of the active set, wherein the excess received signal power includes signal power received by the subscriber in excess of power received from the base station.

  • Patent number: 8296124
Abstract: A system that detects incorrectly translated text in a document. During operation, the system determines a target language for the document. The system then identifies one or more terms in the document that are invalid terms for the language. Next, the system analyzes correlations between these invalid terms, and, based on these correlations, determines whether one or more of the invalid terms comprise incorrectly translated text.

  • Patent number: 8290268
Abstract: Methods and systems for segmenting printed media pages into individual articles quickly and efficiently. A printed media based image that may include a variety of columns, headlines, images, and text is input into the system which comprises a block segmenter and a article segmenter system. The block segmenter identifies and produces blocks of textual content from a printed media image while the article segmenter system determines which blocks of textual content belong to one or more articles in the printed media image based on a classifier algorithm. A method for segmenting printed media pages into individual articles is also presented.

  • Patent number: 8290027
Abstract: Typical transceivers have multiple near-end and multiple far-end crosstalk cancellation filters. Crosstalk cancellation is one of the largest contributors to power dissipation in the DSP portion of high speed Ethernet transceivers. By detecting the cable type, a transceiver could automatically turn off its crosstalk cancellation filters when driving shielded twisted pair (STP) cables and substantially reduce the overall power dissipation in this configuration. Adaptive digital crosstalk cancellers automatically adjust the coefficients of a digital filter to match the coupling function between two channels. The impulse response of an optimal crosstalk cancellation filter can be used to determine a metric indicating the amount of coupling between the two channels. STP cables will have a much lower amount of coupling between wire-pairs than unshielded twisted pair cables.

  • Patent number: 8291364
Abstract: The present invention provides an automated digital circuit design tool that reduces or eliminates adverse timing constraints due to an inherent clock signal skew, and applications thereof In an embodiment, an automated design tool according to the invention generates a clocking system that includes a clock signal generator, control logic, enable logic, and at least one clock gater. The clock signal generator generates a clock signal that is distributed to various logic blocks of the digital circuit using a buffered clock tree. The enable logic receives input values from the control logic and provides a control signal to the clock gater. When enabled, the clock gater allows a clock signal to pass through to multiple registers. An early clock signal is provided to register(s) in the control logic, which allows for an increased clock frequency while still meeting timing constraints.

  • Patent number: 8291146
Abstract: A system and method using messages to access registers and memory in a PCI Express communications link environment. Vendor defined PCI Express messages can be used to read and write to the memory-mapped or register space of a device. Four types of accesses are defined using this messaging approach, namely memory read, memory write, configuration read and configuration write. The type of register access desired is defined by the appropriate value in a vendor-specific type field in the header of the vendor defined message. If a PCI Express compliant device at the other end of the PCI Express link does not support these types of messages, the messages are silently discarded by the receiver and no error is reported.
