  • Patent number: 8213452
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for ordering grants of upstream bandwidth in a two-way grant-based communication system, such as a DOCSIS-based communication system. Typically, a central controller, such as a CMTS, sends a grant message to a set of end user devices, e.g., cable modems, wherein the message defines when each end user device can transmit upstream. The invention first determines, for each end user device, the time needed for processing the grant message. The central controller then constructs the grant message, such that grants for the end user devices associated with the shortest grant message processing times occur early in the grant message and represent the earliest grants. Grants for end user devices associated with the longest grant message processing times occur later in the grant message and represent later grants.

  • Patent number: 8213447
Abstract: The present invention enables the coupling and decoupling of multiple processing devices to a network without disrupting the network. In an embodiment, the invention provides a switch having a network port and several initiator ports each configured for coupling to a processing device. The switch is configured to route data from the network port to the initiator ports and from the initiator ports to the network port. A management agent facilitates operation of the switch by processing port initializations, replying to device registration requests, and processing predetermined unsolicited discovery commands. During operation, the management agent enables configuration changes caused, for example, by the coupling and/or decoupling of processing device to initiator ports.

  • Patent number: 8209121
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for improving the accuracy of location data, such as GPS data. In an embodiment, the present invention adjusts coordinates by receiving a sequence of coordinates corresponding to a plurality of locations; identifying in a map database, for each location, polyline features within a distance from the coordinates for the location; calculating emission probabilities for the polyline features; calculating transition probabilities for the polyline feature; and adjusting the coordinates for the plurality of locations so that the adjusted coordinates correspond to polyline features belonging to a sequence of polyline features selected, based on the emission probabilities and the transition probabilities, to be the most likely sequence of polyline features that correspond to the sequence of coordinates.

  • Patent number: 8208462
Abstract: A second output transmission signal (“TX2”) added to a line driver is a scaled version of the main output transmission signal (“TX1”). TX2 is scaled from TX1 by a variable scale factor K. An adaptive hybrid circuit subtracts TX1 and TX2 from a line signal carrying both a line transmission signal and a line received signal (“RX”). A programmable impedance Ztune is coupled between the TX2 output of the line driver and the RX output of the adaptive hybrid circuit. A transmission echo in the output RX signal is measured. K and Ztune are then adaptively tuned to minimize the transmission echo. The hybrid in this case becomes a 4-port network, one port specifically added to adaptively cancel the transmission echo in the RX output of the adaptive hybrid circuit. Alternatively, the hybrid may be a 3-port hybrid including variable impedances to cancel the line transmission signal.

  • Patent number: 8208856
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for a programmable interference suppression module may include receiving a communication signal comprising one or more desired signal, and one or more undesired signals. The communication signal may be utilized to generate estimated channel state information. The estimated channel state information may be formatted for use in interference suppression. A reduced interference signal may be generated from a delayed version of said communications signal and the estimated channel state information, wherein the one or more undesired signals may be attenuated. The reduced interference signal may be formatted for post-processing. The desired signals may comprise WCDMA and/or HSDPA signals, and the undesired signals may be inter-cell and/or intra-cell interference. Further processing may comprise HSDPA processing and/or RAKE finger processing. The communication signal may be a Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) compliant signal.

  • Patent number: 8208660
Abstract: In a method and system for audio level detection and control, an amplitude of an audio signal may be compared to a threshold and an attenuation applied to the audio signal may be adjusted based on the comparison. In instances that the amplitude of the audio signal is greater than or equal to the threshold the adjustment may comprise increasing a first attenuation factor until the amplitude of the audio signal is less than the threshold. The first attenuation factor may be subsequently decreased until the amplitude of the audio signal is greater than or equal to the threshold or until the first attenuation factor is equal to zero. The attenuation of the audio signal may be controlled via a digital gain circuit within the hardware audio CODEC, wherein an overall attenuation factor of the digital gain circuit is a sum of the first attenuation factor and a second attenuation factor.
