Abstract: A surgical access device comprising an instrument access channel extending through an instrument seal and a shroud comprising an inverting region disposed distally of the instrument seal exhibits improved tear-resistance of the instrument seal from instrument manipulation, for example, instrument withdrawals. Some embodiments of the inverting region invert through the instrument seal on instrument withdrawal. Some embodiments of the inverting region induce at least a portion of the instrument seal itself to invert on instrument withdrawal.

Abstract: Techniques are provided that allow client and server nodes to communicate without the continuing intervention of a load-balancing node that selected the server node. A load-balancing node intercepts a TCP SYN packet addressed to a virtual IP address. The load-balancing node selects a server node from among multiple server nodes, and sends the packet toward the server node. The server node sends an IPv6 packet toward the client node. The packet contains a Binding Update option that specifies the virtual IP address as a Home Address. This information causes the client node to replace destination addresses in outgoing IP packets so that packets that the client node would have sent toward the virtual IP address are sent toward the selected server node's IP address instead. Consequently, the IP packets are routed toward the selected server node instead of the load-balancing node.

Abstract: To perform erasure detection for an intermittently active transport channel with unknown format, a receiver determines an energy metric and a symbol error rate (SER) for a received block with CRC failure. The receiver computes uncorrelated random variables u and v for the received block based on the energy metric and SER, the estimated means and standard deviations of the energy metric and SER, and a correlation coefficient indicative of the correlation between the energy metric and SER. The receiver then evaluates the uncorrelated random variables u and v based on at least one decision criterion and declares the received block to be an erased block or a DTX block based on the result of the evaluation. The decision criterion may be defined based on a target probability of false alarm and adjusted based on another metric, such as a zero state bit, for the received block.

Abstract: A device has a single scaling filter to filter a video signal once to perform both sharpening and scaling. A memory stores original scaling filter coefficients for the scaling filter. An integrated circuit calculates new sharpening-scaling filter coefficients derived from the original scaling filter coefficients and one of sharpening filter coefficients for a sharpening filter and a sharpening strength and applies the new sharpening-scaling filter coefficients to the single scaling filter.

Abstract: A method for measuring system response sensitivity, using live traffic and an analysis that converts randomly arriving stimuli and reactions to the stimuli to mean measures over chosen intervals, thereby creating periodically occurring samples that are processed. The system is perturbed in a chosen location of the system in a manner that is periodic with frequency p, and the system's response to arriving stimuli is measured at frequency p. The perturbation, illustratively, is with a square wave pattern.

Abstract: Identification of transmitters for signals received by a terminal. To determine the transmitter of a given received signal, a list of candidate transmitters that may have transmitted that signal is determined. A coverage zone to use for the received signal is also determined. This coverage zone is the area where the terminal may receive the signal being identified. The predicted power for each candidate transmitter is then determined, e.g., using a path loss prediction model and the coverage zone. The predicted powers for the candidate transmitters are compared (directly or relatively) against the measured power of the received signal. The candidate transmitter with (direct/relative) predicted power closest to the (direct/relative) measured power is deemed as the one that transmitted the signal. Propagation delays may also be predicted and used for transmitter identification. The identified transmitters may be used to determine a position estimate for the terminal.
