  • Patent number: 4177138
Abstract: Dialysis apparatus has dilution and concentration chambers arranged alternately, which chambers each are defined by ion exchange membranes and frames each disposed therebetween. Passages for introduction of air into the dilution and concentration chambers are provided at lower portions thereof. The air introduced through the passages into the dilution and concentration chambers rises upward between the ion exchange membranes and is exhausted from upper portions thereof out of the dialysis apparatus. By the introduction of the air, solutions in the dilution and concentration chambers are driven to flow upward. Condensed phosphates are added to liquid to be treated before dialysis of the liquid.

  • Patent number: 4174474
Abstract: To be used in operating one or more end switches, one or more cams are mounted on a switchbar, with each cam having two parts with angularly related surfaces that move towards and away from each other by means of a head screw so as to clamp against two correspondingly angled parts of the switchbar, to draw the cam transversely against the side of the switchbar. The switchbar is provided with a V-shaped groove, so as to provide two angled surface portions for respectively engaging two cams mounted respectively on opposite sides of the switchbar, so that the same may be moved past each other in the direction of elongation of the switchbar without interfering with each other.

  • Patent number: 4160713
Abstract: In a process for electro-dialysis which comprises passing an electrolyte through dilution chambers and concentration chambers formed between a large number of alternately counterposed anion exchange membranes and cation exchange membranes, and applying an electric potential to a pair of electrodes provided at both ends of a plurality of these chambers, thereby migrating ions in the electrolyte through the membranes and effecting dilution or concentration of the electrolyte, such a volumic rate of air bubbles is introduced to the lower parts of the dilution chambers as to make the thickness of a diffusion layer formed by concentration polarization near the ion exchange membranes in the dilution chambers smaller than when air bubbles are not introduced thereto, and make the resistance between the electrodes smaller than when the air bubbles are not introduced thereto. Superficial air velocity of air bubbles introduced into the dilution chambers is preferably 1-4 cm/sec.

  • Patent number: 4160298
Abstract: A standard container having the usual filling neck with threads is converted into a device for throwing a lifeline from a safe area, such as a boat, over open water to a desired spot where it functions as a buoy and tow rope. After removal of the standard cap, a replacement cap is telescopically threaded to the standard container neck, and includes a tube extending into the container and being closed at its bottom end, so as to render the container water tight, after a small amount of water has been added to the otherwise empty container for ballast. The line is stored within the replacement cap tube, and is secured to the bottom of the tube. The top end of the tube is closed by an easily removable cap that is secured to one end of the line and forms an anchor for one end of the line to be held in one hand, while the container is thrown with the other hand.

  • Patent number: 4155990
Abstract: Hydrogen sulfide is removed from coal gas for gas turbine power generation and recovered as elemental sulfur by contacting a coal gas formed by gasification of coal with an iron oxide catalyst, thereby removing hydrogen sulfide from the coal gas and obtaining a desulfurized coal gas; regenerating the iron oxide catalyst of lowered desulfurization activity, thereby obtaining a regeneration off-gas containing sulfur dioxide; converting a portion of said desulfurized coal gas to reducing gas containing hydrogen; reacting the hydrogen of the resulting reducing gas with the sulfur dioxide in a portion of said regeneration off-gas, thereby producing hydrogen sulfide; reacting the resulting hydrogen sulfide with the sulfur dioxide in the remaining portion of the regeneration off-gas in the presence of a catalyst, thereby producing a gas containing elemental sulfur, and recovering the elemental sulfur from the gas.

  • Patent number: 4154673
Abstract: Waste water issued from a wet type desulfurization apparatus and containing thionic acid ions is introduced into ion-exchange towers filled with weak-basic anion-exchange which has to effect anion exchange therein. The weak-basic anion-exchange resin which has adsorbed the thionic acid ions is desorbed by contacting an alkaline solution. The thionic acid ions included in the desorbing solution are decomposed by heating them in the presence of acid. A decomposed solution is issued out of the system after its neutralization.

  • Patent number: 4154562
Abstract: The pour plate that is inclined downwardly between the side conveyors of a U-shaped continuous molding tunnel is adjustable in width between the correspondingly adjustable side conveyors so as to selectively produce flat-top buns of foamed synthetic resin of a desired width within the range of adjustment. Interdigitating T-shaped fingers are transversely expandible to form the pour plate and have the gaps between the fingers closed by a cover sheet extending completely over the pour plate with sides being folded downwardly between the pour plate and side conveyors where they are attached to a bias that holds the cover sheet in stretched condition over the pour plate. The bottom cover web that travels with the foam may be folded or cut to the adjusted width of the pour plate. The interdigitated finger construction of the pour plate permits adjustment of the pour plate profile so as to correspond to the rise/time curve of the foam as it expands on our pour plate.

  • Patent number: 4152385
Abstract: Two opposed endless conveyor belts, together with side dams respectively mounted on the conveyor belts form a molding tunnel for producing a continuous sheet of foamed and cured resin. A cover sheet, usually of paper, is provided between the molding surfaces of the side dams and conveyors and the product being formed. The side dams are movable toward and away from an abutting surface of the conveyor opposite to the one that they are mounted on so as to clamp the paper therebetween and prevent leakage of foam. A mechanism, particularly a spring bias and cam track, is provided to release the paper clamping pressure to permit the foaming resin briefly to permit the expanding resin to move the paper into conformity with the molding tunnel. The points along the length of the molding tunnel wherein this release occurs are adjustable as desired.

  • Patent number: 4141959
Abstract: Ammonia is added to combustion flue gas containing nitrogen and sulfur oxides and the gas is brought into contact with a catalyst which contains titanium or tin oxide, or a mixture of the two, as a main component at a temperature between 150 .about. 330.degree. C.Nitrogen oxides are reduced to nitrogen and water, and sulfur oxides are deposited as ammonium sulfates, on the surface of the catalyst which causes a decrease in the ability of the catalyst.A part of the catalyst is removed continuously or intermittently from a catalyst bed and fed to a regeneration tower where it is treated with a hot gas having a temperature of 350 .about. 600.degree. C. The ammonium sulfates deposited on the catalyst are decomposed into SO.sub.3 and NH.sub.3. The SO.sub.3 is adsorbed by an SO.sub.3 absorbent and the NH.sub.3 is returned to the combustion flue gas to be treated.
